  1. I didn't check the entire thread - but have we discussed this yet? He's sitting like 91-92 with the fastball and like 81-82 with the slider...
  2. He was hitting over .300 and his wRC+ was at like 92. He's going to need to add some power...
  3. Good calls on Palmegiani and Horwitz. I was just looking at the top 25 from the Fangraphs page and those guys aren't in it (yet). I am not overly concerned about Orelvis (although I'm more concerned than I once was) - but I do think Eat My Shatkins has a point that our positional depth is pretty pathetic. I don't care if all those international guys were all defense first "may never hit" types - you'd like to see at last one of them swing a decent bat and I would agree that Otto Lopez might turn into utility guy, but I think we should acknowledge the chances of him becoming the next Espinal is probably <10% (maybe <5%). Unfortunately the Groshans/Kloffenstein move in the 2018 draft seems like a complete bust. Easy to say now, but just couldn't just take Logan Gilbert or Nolan Gorman eh? hahaha
  4. What I find really odd is the massive drop in SLG% over the past 2 years. He went from a .500+ guy every year (even when the K's came in 2020) to a very low .400 SLG% guy...despite the fact he still hits baseballs really hard.
  5. I agree. I just looked all the stats for our positional players in the Top 25 (as per Fangraphs) and it's f***ing awful. O. Martinez (105 wRC+) Leo Jimenez (100 wRC+) Groshans (94 wRC+) De Castro (39 wRC+) Lopez (102 wRC+) Beltre (94 wRC+) E. Machado (91 wRC+) M. Hiraldo (67 wRC+) Espino (59 wRC+) Zac Cook (117 wRC+, but 39% K rate) That's really pathetic that not one of them is really having a good year at the plate. You have to get to Gabby Martinez before you find someone who can hit. Even Tanner Morris is now abysmal in AAA. What on earth are they doing down there?
  6. But he's only striking out 25% of the time this year - which is a lot closer to league average than it is to Joey Gallo.
  7. When Moreno is catching and Kirk is pitching - I'd agree with this. But otherwise, I'd still rather see Chapman in there with Biggio replacing Tapia in the lineup. Something doesn't seem to add up with Chapman. He doesn't chase bad pitches (94th percentile), barrels the ball regularly (84th percentile), is in the 94% percentile for hard hit % and has great average and max exit velo (91st and 86th percentile). Where are the results?
  8. I hate to say it because I love the guy, but I think the Raps should try and trade FVV now. Only 2 years left on his deal and there's no way I'm paying him a Brunson type deal for his age 30-33 seasons. He plays so hard that his body is going to give out. I'm fine with OG/Trent & picks for KD. I wouldn't give up much more. Any suggesting that they give up Siakam and Barnes is f***ing insane. I wouldn't trade Barnes and picks for him straight up. You have to factor in that KD is a headcase and a f***ing douche too.
  9. I'd add the Hawks into this conversation now that they added Murray. Young, Murray, Hunter, Collins, Capela with Bogdanovic, Okongwu, Griffen, Holiday and Williams on the bench. They'll be really solid.
  10. The Vlad & Dad one. I've never been into bobbleheads myself. No idea what fair market value is, but it looks like people love to get s*** for free and then gouge people.
  11. An update from my Canada Day game experience. We got to the dome by about 12:30 and the lines were already massive. The Gate 4 line was back on Front Street. We went to Gate 1, which seemed to have a short line, but they told us the "line was closed" because the hotel didn't want people lining up in front of their entrance or some s***. So we leaned against the railing until the line started moving, then jumped in the back. We were passing through the metal detectors when they announced the jerseys were gone. The kids I took were pretty bummed, but luckily they were talking about their disappointment in a concession stand line and an older lady in front of us gave one to my son for his birthday. TB didn't take batting practice either... But - overall, the kids had a great day. Lots of energy in the dome, lots of action and runs scored and of course a Jays win to boot. We were really hoping Romano would pitch, so we could see the light show they put on for him - which would have been cool on Canada Day, but that's life.
  12. There are lots on Facebook Marketplace already. I saw prices ranging from like $80 to $200.
  13. This is huge for the Jays. Love Cavan.
  14. Laika - what website do you get those stats from? Thanks.
  15. Guys - this is baseball. I suspect most teams only "fire on all cylinders" for a few weeks each year. When the pitching was carrying us, we were all love it and ripping the offense for sucking. Now that the script has flipped, we just s*** all over the pitchers. Baseball has a ton of ups and downs throughout the year.
  16. I heard someone on the radio the other day speculating at what it will take to sign Ohtani. They were saying Soto is going to get $400M+ and that Ohtani is comparable to Soto with the stick. Then they suggested Ohtani is as good as Gerrit Cole on the mound and were wondering if he would get $500-$600M. I don't know what the right answer is, but it's fun to consider.
  17. I think there are lots of baseball fans who take him for granted. I don't think people appreciate just how good Trout and Ohtani are. I think people are naturally drawn to flashy guys like Jazz Chisholm, Tatis, Acuna, etc. more.
  18. It also depends on who's replacing him at that position and you have to consider the possibility that he'd be an even better hitter if he wasn't catching....but I do get your point. Once robo umps come to the majors, I suspect the gap will shrink.
  19. Holy f*** - Alvarez needs to DH. You can't have him running in the OF.
  20. Then we move him to DH when robo umps coming next year?
  21. Isn't the argument that we should simply DH Kirk so he's in the lineup everyday? When you have a young Edgar Martinez on your team, he can't sit 2-3 times a week.
  22. I think most are underestimating or understating how much 'luck' is involved in constructing a good bullpen. I also don't give a f*** what they did with the pen in 2018 - in fact, I applaud them for not spending resources on the pen then when this team was nowhere near ready to contend. As the team moved into it's window to win, the FO has added Cimber, Richards, Garcia, Phelps and Merryweather. Outside of Cimber, these guys all have a ton of swing and miss stuff with K/9 over 9 and then you have our internal guys like Romano, Mayza and Pearson. Unfortunately, a lot of these guys aren't performing up to their abilities right now. You can bitch all you want that the FO 'should have known' Pearson and Merryweather are made of glass and can't be relied upon, but let's be honest, most pitchers are ticking time bombs.
  23. Biggio up to a 118 wRC+. That is so f***ing encouraging.
  24. Julio Rodriguez is making the all star team right?
  25. It's crazy that Moreno is hitting .324, but his wRC+ is <100
