You're unbelievable. Winker made obscene gestures to children, while Myles Straw only 'jawed with one fan'? You just love twisting it to suit your story. Give it a rest. I must be missing the video where Winker got into verbal altercations with multiple fans as I've only seen the video of him walking off giving the double bird - doesn't look like he says anything to anyone.

This is the only clip I've seen and it's a pretty standard double bird as he walks into the dugout. I don't think anyone went home with their feeling hurt that Winker flipped them off that day and he's already apologized. I think disgrace is too strong. What is really sad is that little girl who went to see Votto play (when he got tossed in the 1st inning) was at this game. She came to watch Winker and Suarez play and of course both got tossed out of the game after this brawl. All because Phil Nevin was butt hurt and decided to play old skoool baseball and purposely hit players and start a brawl. That's the disgrace.

You're suggesting that flipping the bird to someone is what instigated those players actions and thus we should really punish any player who flips the bird because it could lead to a similar situation? I don't buy that. I see flipping the bird to someone as a pretty harmless and childish act. I agree players are held to a higher standard, but I also don't think fans should be allowed to scream and swear and do whatever they want to players either - kick those f***ing ****s out of the stadium. I'm not suggesting that MLB encourage it, but I just don't see it as really offensive in today's world.

Oh I agree - I was just responding to those who felt the double bird was such a disgrace. I doubt it had much impact. He was definitely in there throwing a ton of actual punches during the fight. Jomboy just did a long, good breakdown of it. Seems pretty clear that Phil Nevin sent the reliver in to throw at people because he's a little bitch. I've said this multiple times, if you don't like something they did to you or one of your players, then confront them and punch them in the face yourself. Sending a shitbag reliver in to start the game and throw at Julio's head is f***ing ********. Such a pussy move. This is one of those unwritten rule things that needs to phased out of baseball. I'm glad Winker didn't just go to first and then tell his pitcher to throw at one of their batters to 'get back at them'. That's nonsense.

That's what I figured. Probably size L as that will fit most people. I'm just bringing four 12 year old kids with me who are pumped about getting a free jersey. I don't think they'll be as pumped when they realize it won't fit them until they are 18.

Is this really that disrespectful these days? If you're yelling and swearing at an athlete and they flip you the bird, do you stop and say "OMG, I can't believe he just did that really disrespectful thing - what a bad person". You have to be pushing 70 if you still get offended when someone flips you the bird don't you? I understand that's not a great thing for kids - but I guarantee you that people in the lower bowl could hear all kinds of cursing and swearing during the fight and the fight itself is all just as bad IMO as the double bird.

Agreed. I love me some Goldy. Super underrated player. I'd love to see him win MVP this year. He's going to need to age gracefully, but if he can, he has a shot at the HOF. Being in St. Louis now will help. For me, he's right up there with Votto and Freeman.

Chapman's savant page suggests he's a lot closer to 2018-19 Chapman than the 2020-21 version - the actual production just seems to be lagging behind a bit. Hoping it's slowly starting to correct itself. My real question is what happened to the defense? The savant page shows his "outs above average" is only in the 27th percentile after it's been 90%+ his entire career (save the shortened 2020 season when he was coming off hip surgery). It this just an anomaly?

The MUCH bigger issue is when the top of the rotation starter you just gave a 7 year deal to is pitching like Josh Towers and the "ace" you signed in 2020 looks like Jaime Moyer and blows out his elbow. Thank god we have Stripling.

Guess it depends who you thought we could add. I don't think adding another David Phelps type is what most think this team needs. A guy like Bednar probably costs Groshans + and signing someone like him would cost $$$ on a multi year deal. I think most expected that Shatkins spent 'close' to the budget already, while leaving themselves some wiggle room to add players during the season.

I mean - of course they could have. But there are things such as budgets and a desire to win more than 1 year. Pretty easy to simplify this and say "they should have signed or traded for better pitchers"

We'll see what that projection system says after the next 8 games. We're now 4-8 in our last 12 games and I'm fully prepared to go 2-6 v. BOS/TB. The good news is that in the new system, you basically just have to finish above .500 and you have a great shot at making the playoffs (my how the bar has dropped). I'd rather see sustainable winning and I'm worried we'll have to gut the system again to fill all the holes we have to 'win' this year. It will be interesting to see what they do, but if I were betting, I suspect they'll hedge their bets a bit. I doubt we'll see them be super aggressive, adding the top arms and bats. I suspect we'll move some middling prospects. And yes I'm just very pessimistic right now. I just finished up my 8th youth tournament in the past 9 weekends so I'm exhausted. I finally put my feet up yesterday and got to watch Berrios pitch like Josh Towers again.

Thanks for this TL. I was just coming in to ask you guys as I'm taking my son and a few of his friends to the July 1st game for his 12th birthday. Of course he wants to get a Springer jersey and I was curious how early I'd have to go to get one. We're in Section 209, so Gate 4. I think someone said the 200 level is better on giveaway days as it isn't as busy as the 100 level gates? He'd also like to go watch batting practice. If the gates only open at 1:30 (I can't seem to find that information on my ticket btw), I guess our plan should be to funnel in then and we should catch some of the batting practice? Could someone confirm? Should be a great day...hope Berrios figures his s*** out though.
