  1. No, in the scenario I paint, he is called up early 2019. If JD accepts the QO, it complicates things in that I don't think he can then be traded for 45 days or something, but then he can be. Bang, 3B open. Vlad slips in, but gets called up before which would allow JD to DH, maybe alternate with Vlad a 3B until the trade is made. If JD walks, then Diaz is the place setter at 3B, and not very long, until Vlad is called up, and then some tough decisions will need to be made. Trade Travis, DFA Tulo? Dunno. I like Travis, but I think Diaz is more versatile and less injury prone. I have not looked at control years remaining for both. Travis may have the edge there. The Jays FO clearly sees Vlad playing 3B, otherwise he would not be playing there throughout the minors. Vlad as 1B plays, too. Unless Rowdy Tellez continues hitting like he has been since June. Then he would be preferential there to replace Smoak. And of course all these moves/decisions are made in a vacuum. So many things can happen that change things in a hurry. Injuries, trades, FA signings.
  2. McKinley actually reminds me of Brett Gardner
  3. Why not make him the super sub? 3B, SS, 2B, and OF? But I would want him getting ~ 600 ABs somehow. Martin has sort of done that this year, but next year he could be the *emergency* sub, and backup catcher to Jansen. I know with JD's locker cleaned out, this ain't happening, but if I am Rogers I definitely offer JD a QO. Say it's $19M. If he's healthy, and regresses to the mean, he's a 3-4 WAR player minimum. Then we can trade him for a few okay prospects. Not awesome, but not a total loss. If JD walks, I would start Diaz at 3B, and then call up Vlad in 2019 whenever it works. I think Tulo will be ready to play next season, and I think he can put up positive WAR. Then he can be traded (where we eat most of salary) or DFAed I guess. JD and Tulo playing would also block Vlad and Bichette, making the org not look like total dicks, in that they have a reason not to promote them right away next year, extending their service time obviously. I think Travis can play in 2019 and be the bridge for Cavan Biggio in 2020. Solarte? Who cares. Diaz? I like him, and he would be a nice place holder, too, once either Travis or Tulo go down with injury. Infield (2019) 3B JD or Diaz SS Tulo 2B Travis 1B Smoak C Jansen Infield Sub: Gurriel Infield (2020 - by late April) 3B Vlad SS Bichette 2B Biggio 1B Tellez C Jansen infield: Gurriel Pretty exciting infield.
  4. Man, I hope we can trade Granderson (Judge and others) to the Yanks and Estrada (Bauer) to the Indians for some prospects. Seem like decent fits.
  5. With a WAR of > 1. Yeah, not bad for the second last year of an expensive contract. It's not like he's Pujols or Chris Davis. Or Tulo.
  6. This game is more fun than watching the 2018 Blue Jays.
  7. 30, or thirty if you’re down with non-numbers. #30tooshorttopost
  8. Decent, outstanding. Semantics. Just predict the WAR for Smoak, multiply it by the cost of a WAR (predicted for 2019), minus the $8M and that is the surplus value. Either way, why is he on this team in 2019?
  9. Of course. Like 100% of segments anywhere. Like anything opined here. #captainobvious #sleuth
  10. I had sort of written off Tellez but he’s had a really solid June+ in MiLB. I like Smoak but he’s blocking this kid. Smoak has a decent $8M option for 2019. Good value but why on a rebuilding 2019 roster. Is t there anyone out there who could use him?
  11. Yep, with some added incentives added to make it like $180 if he rocks MLB.
  12. We? I want Girardi. I think Gibby is a good manager, but assuming he’s fired or walks away, Girardi is my #1. But I like the idea of Bautista becoming manager, too. What do you experts think?
  13. Which prospects are called up this season? Like most, I don't see Bichette (still in AA) and Vlad called up until May, 2019. But I do see SRF and Jansen called up. Man, I wish the Yankees wanted Martin for 10% of his salary.
  14. JD Martinez has been other worldly, too. Without looking I would say Betts has a better WAR, but man, that Martinez signing couldn't have gone better for the Red Sox. f***.
  15. I don't know if any of you listen to the podcast "Jays At the Letters", but the latest episode addresses the Gibby thing. I think most fans like Gibby, and I think he has managed very well despite not having the resources to field an even average team. It is a travesty that the FO has a ton of decent middle infielders on the farm, but due to service time contraints, forces Gibby to play Martin at SS and stuff. Brutal. Even worse, there are a ton of SP pitchers in AA and AAA that would die for a spot start yet the Jays grab someone from out of the org to start when needed. Anyway, the podcast discusses the advantages of firing Gibby now. First, we get a head start on the other teams that will soon need a manager. Maybe 5-7 teams. Second, it avoids any embarrassing situations. For example, what if Shapiro is hot for Girardi (I pray!) as our next manager. Can you imagine the negative optics for Gibby and everyone if Girardi was spotted at the Pearson before Gibby was fired? And they mention in the podcast that Atkins/Shapiro have interviewed candidates 10 times for minor league coaching positions. They will need a lot of time to do their "due diligence" apparently to hire anyone. Start now, unencumbered. They also mention Walker and Hale as possibilities. So, in sum, I would like Gibby to take a paid two month holiday then come back and be part of the org somehow.
  16. Even with the $20M owed next year, I think this was a good signing.
  17. No kidding. We did not trade pre-DV Osuna. We won that trade. Period. Osuna may excel for 2-3 years in Houston, but that org is taking (rightly so) a lot of flack, and this move may backfire. No way do we get a better trade than that with anyone. In 2018 anyway.
  18. Both, and three more. We're lacking bodies, and will probably soon trade Estrada.
  19. Drew Hutchinson has shaken free again. This armchair GM would sign him in a heartbeat. Hutchinson > Clippard as a SP
  20. The buzz I hear is that the team is announcing a 5-year extension. With a club option for a 6th.
