  1. I always found it most frustrating when the players would come back early and just make the original injury worse. I have ranted about Poulis in the past because of this. I have got the same "how do you know any of this?" kind of response too. Its hard to quantify but its something that should at least be explored. Maybe our head trainer isnt very good? Maybe he is legitimately responsible? I dunno. I dont think hes very good though.
  2. A scout who saw a recent start of Rios’ confirmed that the stuff matched the numbers. The 20-year-old whom the Jays signed out of Mexico in 2012 started his arsenal with a fastball with late life in the 92-94 mph range. He backed it up with a well above-average curveball that held a tight fastball line and a below-average changeup that he nonetheless threw with the same arm speed as his fastball. Another evaluator who saw him called the repertoire “TV stuff in the making.” I find this very conflicting. That sounds like a 60 Fastball, a 55 Curveball, and a 45 Changeup. That doesn't sound like "TV stuff in the making" at all. That honestly sounds like a middle leverage reliever. And yet I dont know enough about him to argue this stuff either since that is one of the best most trustworthy reports we have been given on Rios.
  3. The way I have been measuring this team is versus the 2001 team and I think to myself "Is this Raptor team the best team I have seen? Which Raptor team is better? Which Raptor team am I going to reminisce about more when I am an old man lecturing young'ins?" Just because this years team steamrolled a s***** division in a s***** conference and then beat thoroughly mediocre teams in the playoffs doesnt automatically make them better in my mind. I still dont know which side I would take but the playoffs arent over either. If the Raps show me something vs Cleveland than those caveats can get marginalized.
  4. always nice to see our depth bullpen guys like Loup & Schultz getting hammered
  5. i honestly think the league office has some trouble with this rule since it is so new and they are so old/dumb (usually).
  6. Cavs playing the sabermetrics dream game. Either drives to the hoop or 3 pointers. Its crazy how badly they beat our perimeter defenders. Even Lowry and Carroll getting exposed out there. Thats an insanely tough thing to correct aswell. You cant just say "Hey Kyle be quicker than Irving" or something like that. Probably gotta go back to the drawing board defensively but honestly when your playing LeBron I cant really fault Casey&Co for that. Thats just what LBJ makes you do. Only thing you can really do is bring a help defender but the Cavs are more than capable of hitting the open jumper. We need to do something with our defensive rotations. Gonna be interesting to see how Casey&Co respond.
  7. he probably got like the alabama penalty. you can play 99% of the game but dont start and miss the very first play. cuz its symbolic or some s*** like that.
  8. posted in the other suspension thread but relevant here aswell... all the suspensions suck. jose has done his 2nd dirty slide in this young season and he only gets 1 game? rougned odor f***ing punched a guy and only gets 8 games? who is in charge of this stuff? i bet if chase utley did that tackle slide now he'd only get like 3 games. these suspensions are basically meaningless.
  9. all the suspensions suck. jose has done his 2nd dirty slide in this young season and he only gets 1 game? rougned odor f***ing punched a guy and only gets 8 games? who is in charge of this stuff? i bet if chase utley did that tackle slide now he'd only get like 3 games. these suspensions are basically meaningless.
  10. hes a terrible offensive player. he has trouble catching rebounds and passes right to him. he has absolutely no skill around the basket. his hands are basically made of granite. he also fouls quite a bit. thats especially unnerving on offense because there really is no excuse for those offensive fouls. thing is a guy like kenneth faried doesnt offer much more either and he's still a solid player and got paid handsomely before the cap explosion. energy + size can get you very far in this league.
  11. yeah i dont know what these guys are smoking. biyombo's market is gonna start at double that easily. some team is gonna want him as a starter and pay him accordingly. he will probably get exposed as a full time starter though.
  12. cecil and storen just need to be pushed down the pecking order. it was tough watching gibby throw cecil out there in super high leverage situations knowing that he was doomed to fail. his mechanics are s*** and he cant locate anything. to be fair Cecil wa always walking a fine line with his mechanics anyways so it might have just been a matter of time. it is something that can potentially be ironed out but we cant afford to wait for it and be like "this is the day cecil will be good again". being placed on the DL might be the best thing for Cecil right now though. Storen I dunno. his stuff seems lacking and the league switch the the AL East is already a killer. i cant comment on his mechanics or anything like that since we just got him. the real problem is if we drop storen and eventually cecil down to lower leverage roles while they get their feet back under them then who do we bump up? Girodo? Biagini? The Anatolian? Sanchez is the only upgrade but I agree we should just ride him out as a SP until he creeps up to the innings limit.

  14. maybe i am just more patient since i am a prospect hound. i know the risks but its just part of the equation for me. plus i am a devout fan of the draft and develop method for sustained success.
  15. aye yai yai. no point in me repeating myself. you are risk averse. i get it. you'd much rather have SP20 than the prospect with the best 2 pitch combo in the minors. i'll bet on the syndergaard/verlander toolbox for the kid who has been heralded since he was like 16 years old. if you are worried about attrition rate for prospects than you are always gonna be late to the party though. plus giolito is in the high minors now and could get a taste later this year. its not like he is fresh outta high school.
  16. cleveland has been getting some nice guys who drop in the draft the last couple of years like zimmer and aiken. after that they usually grab an overslot projectable HS arm like sheffield and mckenzie. seems to be a trend. zimmer was an amazing pick and aiken could be aswell (i believe it was but who knows?).
  17. theyve already got lots of surplus prospect value since they are so deep. they can easily trade a guy like baez and soler and not look back. its truly remarkable.
  18. when did we get ben rowen? anybody remember "lock'n'load" ben weber?
  19. this makes me wonder if gibbons knows what the word 'success' really means then
  20. well you could scout this >>> http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/educational-film-lucas-giolitos-bowel-locking-curveball/ ... or literally every other scouting report that gives him like an 80 fastball + 80 curveball + above average changeup already. and oh yeah u could put alex reyes in that glasnow/giolito tier too. those guys could all be true #1 pitchers.
  21. dont just scout the statline. urias okay i can concede that cuz urias is a unicorn (i still dont think he has the ceiling giolito has but his floor is heavenly). glasnow is on par with giolito though. none of those other guys have the talent giolito has.
  22. absolutely moncada. gallo scares the hell out of me. moncada had like 2 years off and raked immediately.
  23. measurable factor = giolito is a better pitching prospect than cueto ever was measurable factor = giolito is one of, if not the single best, top pitching prospects right now measurable factor = giolito is younger than cueto measurable factor = all of this stuff http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/pitcher-aging-curves-starters-and-relievers/ measurable factor = johnny cueto is ranked #25 out of all SP eligible players when accounting for ERA, WHIP, SO. thats barely a #1 starter in a 30 team league. he gets bumped up to #16 if you include WINs but everyone knows wins are fluky as hell for pitchers so they arent very reliable.
  24. really surprised how the spurs collapsed. was looking forward to a GS-SA series.
  25. i agree with this. plus i think giolito will be better than cueto in only a couple years. i also think cueto only has a couple truly good years left.
