  1. Weird situation. Gibby's probably reacting using the reverse logic from hitting Tulo leadoff. Tulo didn't like hitting leadoff and didn't hit well. Pillar likes to hit leadoff and did hit well. I feel like that is about as deep of analysis as you get from big league managers lol.
  2. Yeah but Hank Conger is like the Jon Lester of catchers. You get on first and you can walk to second. That would be even worse with a knuckler. I know Dickey has alright windup to plate times but thats only half the equation with that unique, silly, damning, tantalizing, eccentric, frustrating, awesome pitch.
  3. i'm showing he was the better hitter for 90% of the season, not just the 2nd half.
  4. Dates from 4/28/2015 to 10/4/2015 for a total of 144 games EDWIN ENCARNACION http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=2151&position=3B/DH&type=0&gds=2015-04-28&gde=2015-10-04&season= PA: 540 Hits: 133 HR: 35 RUN: 86 RBI: 103 BB%: 13.1% K%: 15.2% ISO: 0.298 AVG: 0.294 OBP: 0.393 SLG: 0.592 wOBA: 0.413 WRC+: 164 LD%: 20.3% HR/FB: 20.1% Hard%: 37.2% JOSE BAUTISTA http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=1887&position=3B/OF&type=0&gds=2015-04-28&gde=2015-10-04&season= PA: 603 Hits: 129 HR: 36 RUN: 96 RBI: 104 BB%: 16.3% K%: 15.3% ISO: 0.288 AVG: 0.262 OBP: 0.383 SLG: 0.550 wOBA: 0.396 WRC+: 152 LD%: 13.4% HR/FB: 18.4% Hard%: 35.2% The only thing Jose was better in that I trust are BB rate and I guess HRs. Even then it was only 1 HR and Edwin beat him in both SLUG and ISO.
  5. edwin was a beast for every game except for the first 20 or so games, and he was hurt during ST and got off to a late start. after edwin shook off the rust he was the superior player for the throughout the season.
  6. yeah thats what i meant. i bet the cops hated doing it too. 8:30am on daylight savings day and having to go knock on some fanboy commenters door regarding some silly off the cuff troll comment he made about a piece of metal.
  7. jeez. what a sad and bizarre story. mainly sad honestly. what a giant misappropriation of resources. and to think someone at rogers is butthurt enough about an empty threat to an inanimate object.

  9. heres a fantasy article about hutchison. some interesting stuff in there. wild how his release point has changed so much. http://thedynastyguru.com/2016/03/06/what-happened-to-drew-hutchison/

  11. does that mean ufc is part of the conspiracy? i need answers.
  12. I dunno man. I feel like its easy to say "oh yeah just stick him at 1B" but I am pretty sure he will be crap there defensively. Its obviously down the defensive spectrum but don't take a 36 year old guy switching positions for granted.
  13. I was led to believe Reddick is indeed a great defender.
  14. Main thing that worried me big time was the phrase "trend setting contract". Another thing that worried me was that he assumes he will age better than other players. I know you can't be a professional athlete and not think highly of yourself, but actually hearing those things out loud is much different.
  15. nah man. Edwin's next 3-4 years in the league will be better than Jose's. I don't even find this to be a particularly bold statement. Feels more like common sense to me but I seem to be in the minority here. I don't mind the criticism for it either. I am more curious why others think Bautista will age better when he's already 2 years older. They're both DHs anyways so I have always been prepared to lose one. At this point what I have to prepare mentally for is the prospect of losing BOTH of them.
  16. Edwin and Jose both got off to slow starts last year. Edwin was hurting if I remember correct (which doesnt really help my health argument but stick with me) and only played in 11 ST games. Jose played a pretty full slate of 19 ST games. They both got off to rough starts but after that first month of the regular season Edwin outpaced Bautista in WRC+, wOBA, ISO, AVG, OBP, and SLUG.
  17. My main reason for mentioning Bautistas shoulder was to demonstrate the believed flaw in the "amazing athlete" argument that's getting perpetuated. If I was arguing Edwin's body was better I wouldn't mention Bautista's 'legendary workout regimen' at all. All bodies break down, just Jose's breakdown is 2+ years closer than Edwins. If you are implying that Jose is some transcendent athlete that is beyond that I dont agree at all. Also its more of an age/swing type thing than a body thing. I think Edwins a better overall hitter and I think that skill set ages better. It takes a lot more to go wrong for him to bottom out. Please don't take that as a slight on Bautista as hes still damn good. It handcuffed the team defensively, not offensively. When Bautista is at DH and Encarnacion is at 1B then we see stuff like Colabello in LF more often, which is just.... words cannot describe... I dont think anything can handcuff this team offensively other than everyone getting the measles or something *knock on wood*.
  18. i take it you disagree? why?
  19. I've always thought Edwin would age better than Jose. Being younger is a huge plus in that regard but I also feel his golf swing and approach will age better. Jose will fall off a cliff whereas Edwin will slowly recede. The biggest question has been when will Jose finally go over the edge. I think its sooner than people think but I also think people are kind of in that bubble where they want so bad for this team and its players to succeed that they don't want to project any sort of failure. Whenever I read about Jose "Being a crazy good athlete in better shape and he takes way better care of himself than anyone else" I think of that unrealistic positivity, and comments like that have been plastered everywhere lately. Say what you want about him taking care of himself but this is also a guy who injured his shoulder trying to throw a guy out at first base. That doesnt sound like an elite athlete to me. That sounds like an older guys cranky body breaking down. This then subsequently handcuffed our DH spot for over a month which was extremely annoying. I also think this is one of the downsides of Bautistas bravado. He probably (definitely?) should have been sent to the DL. Lots of ins and outs obviously but assuming they both get 4 or 5 year deals for near similar salaries I would side with Edwin being the better investment. I felt this way before Buatista opened his yap aswell. My pie in the sky case scenario was Shapiro re-signs Edwin early to a fairly frinedly deal and then at the end of the season Ed/Ted/Idiot Rogers steps up and increases the budget to keep his favorite blue jay, bautista. seems unlikely now though, what with bautista calling rogers out and telling them their s*** does, in fact, actually stink. high minded upper management ceo types never like that kind of stuff.
  20. i like that red maple leaf hat. its a staple whenever i go on vacation outside of the country.
  21. of course not. i even filed her name away (or at least tried to lol). at least now her new nickname is 'legit' jody 'legit' -something-
  22. not nearly as much skepticism as before. seriously read back in this thread and the other bruce one. its amazing how much things can change. its kind of funny. 4 STAGES OF JAY BRUCE TRADE GRIEF 1) why the hell would the jays trade for bruce? hes expensive and mediocre. 2) hmmm maybe something us really wrong with saunders. jays must know something. 3) u know bruce isnt THAT bad. seems like hes been the same guy skills wise most years but his luck has fluctuated. 4) i bet shapiro is making the right call here. he knows what hes doing.
  23. I had never noticed a more drastic single player change in my life as a Jays fan. Literally the first pitch, the first batter, the first inning of him behind the plate was simply superb. Coming off the flaming piles of dog s*** we had as catcher the last while... I honestly felt spoiled. It was bliss.
  24. you guys... you're very good.
