  1. EDIT: Not the commercial
  2. well obviously they are a big part of it. outside the players themselves the trainer is the biggest part. how is the trainer NOT to blame in this situation, even partly? also i just googled this term 'fangraphs training staff injury prevention' cuz i thought i remembered they ranked the training staffs a few years back and of course the first article on the list involves the blue jays. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/blue-jays-pitchers-hurt-at-record-pace/ i wouldnt even really want to use that as a support piece here though cuz pitcher attrition rate is always low. i just thought it was amusing is all. all the specific example players i mentioned were hitters except for stroman anyways.
  3. the only facts and results you can point to in this situation are the injuries and subsequent re-injuries themselves. i'd say there is a pretty constant trend there. do you think otherwise?
  4. i dont know anything about the training equipment if thats what ur asking about. i was just riffing off the original comment about how frustrating these injuries are and how sick i am of poulis leading the charge to bungle things up. its not all black and white obviously but there are some really obvious situations like michael saunders for example who was rushed and never looked right for one single solitary second when he was on the field. russell martin right now is another obvious one. he aint as black and white as saunders obviously but this also shows how ineffective poulis could be as a leader of the training staff. if hes saying martin should go on the dl and gibbons ignores him then we should get someone who commands respect in that position and not some yes-man (we know the players always ignore the trainer and can always play every game so their opinion is kind of moot. every athlete is boobie miles). i feel like there has to be some responsibility taken for these types of things cuz they are happening constantly. plus maybe there are some new medical techniques poulis was never schooled in. the medical profession changes rapidly these days so maybe his old(ish) school approach is simply letting the team down. i just see very few reasons why his job should not be in jeopardy year after year. its probably a cash thing sadly enough. i bet he comes cheap.
  5. I'd love to see some new blood in the training staff too. Its amazing how entrenched Poulos is even though guys like Saunders, Martin, Travis, Bautista, Reyes (okay maybe take him with a grain of salt), and Edwin are all seemingly mishandled year after year. And I am not talking about the original injury here either. Just seeing guys come back too early from their respective injuries, knowing its too soon even as a casual fan, and then promptly watching the injury blow up in their face and become even worse than the original diagnosis is so disheartening as a fan. I shudder to think about Tulo's not too distant future DL debacles, let alone marcus stromans current situation. I'd also love it if they hired one of those new sports science type guys like the leafs and raps have hired recently. Maybe they have and I just havent heard about it yet, but either way those guys are definitely the next wave in proper training and injury prevention.
  6. Would anyone be willing to post Keith Laws Big Board and/or Mock? If so you would have my gratitude.
  7. nice to see the legend lives on
  8. *Sigh* Take Valencia off the list. "With Saunders getting rest and Danny Valencia unavailable after turning his ankle when his cleat got caught in a floor drain after Monday night’s 3-1 win, the Blue Jays brought up slugger Chris Colabello from triple-A Buffalo."
  9. new ballpark changes, new problems, same solution. shave that turf down. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/sharp-rogers-centre-scoreboards-shaved-down-1.533554
  10. Its depends on the risk/reward of going over the budget to sign all those guys. I believe the harshest penalty is to lose 2 future first round picks, so you basically need to nail down every pick in this draft. It is very much a case by case thing but it would not surprise me to see the Yankees do it in a strong draft year. They are already abusing the IFA process so for me it is only a matter of time until they abuse the amatuer draft.
  11. Canadian Content Brock Dyxhoorn just drafted by the Astros
  12. I am all about taking a chance on Whitson. I heard he was having problems in the rotation so they shut him down for a little bit then brought him back in the bullpen and his stuff started coming back. Eventually he made his way back to the rotation but he still might profile as a reliever now.
  13. Could be a smokescreen. Those Phillies love drafting high risk players.
  14. The Jays rarely seem to practice patience in these instances. They seem to have an internal clock with each prospect that they stick to which doesnt really depend on actual development. To put it simply our organization cares more about player advancement than it does about player development. I look at Sanchez and see a player that probably needs 2 more FULL seasons worth of buildup just to get his arm strength up. He has never pitched more 100 professional innings in a year and averages 4.5 IP per start this year. Not to mention his godawful BB rate which actually seems to be trending backwards. I have my doubts he is even ready for the high minors honestly, but if hs can hold his own than its not like he should be sent back down.
  15. I highly doubt Freeland makes it that far. If he did that would be a coup for whoever got him. Zimmer vs Conforto is close as it gets really, but I would much rather have Schwarber over both as far as college hitters go.
  16. i really hope they just pick hoffman at #9. i dont want to play games with a potential talent like that. AA is not averse to injury risk at all and has capitalized on this in the past several times (smorals foot and hollons arm come to mind) which gives me hope. i am starting to think he doesnt make it to us though. this could follow the similar davis/stroman script from before though which slightly worries me. they could draft the speedy, athletic, highly projectable, low feel, and kind of raw speed demon in trea turner then grab the sliding high potential but discounted college arm in hoffman. turner vexes me and i hope the jays dont pick him but he seems like the only bat we would pick with one of those top picks, and i would hope to get at least one bat early on.
  17. low avg low obp alright pop but they both sell out for it too much imo they both are good athletes which leads you to think they could steal some bags but are clearly lacking something there (IQ, instincts, feel, whatever, etc.) lawrie can handle the bat better but honestly colbys simpler approach might be better (whole K vs groundout thing there) colbys swing is so smooth compared to lawries though so i actually have more faith in him offensively long term colby also is what he is at this point. i still have hope lawrie can tone that swing down though. EDIT: also i dont see lawrie having any consistency offensively. most of his offensive success will probably come from hot streaks like colby's. as we all know when its cold for these guys they can do nothing right. from there it depends on how often lawrie can get dialed in but he will never sustain it for very long with that swing of his.
  18. The 3B version of Colby Rasmus
  19. At the very least its strange that they haven't at least sent him down to the low minors yet. What is going on with him at this point is basically the textbook definition of insanity (If you dont know, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results). Send him down if they are gonna keep him. If not then I am with you just dump him.
  20. Are they the scouting reports from the just released issue of BA?
