  1. this i cant really argue with, but that is more on the manager than player. he'd still go through his rigorous feilding drills and BP sessions if he wasnt playing though.
  2. sounds like they are making a mountain out of a molehill to me. Tulo's work ethic has always been second to none. Its a part of who he is. Now if he is working on the WRONG THINGS then that is different, but telling a player not to work as hard seems so dumb to me.
  3. so my guess of $14m o/u looks conservative now. for the record JV just signed for $16m per year before the season.
  4. all 3 are pretty highly regarded defensively as well
  5. i highly doubt it. they would clog the paint most likely plus one of them would have to be a perimeter defender which is really hard to do. dont get me wrong i loved seeing biyombo hold his own on lebron but that was only like 1 or 2 possessions. he'd be doing that all game. plus the spacing would be bad. lowry and derozan (especially demar) love to have the lane open so they can beat their man and attack. JV's got polish and a nice midrange game near the foul line but he doest really shoot many jumpers from the baseline, which is where he would be pushed off too. biyombo cant do anything offensively outside of the restricted area. neither of them can shoot the 3 obviously so they cant even fake being a threat.
  6. won't somebody please think of the children
  7. wow i loathe everything about that article. there are so many holes in it. the main one being that he frames his argument as if it was a race thing when it really is just an age thing (old man writes an article lamenting new school techniques... simply shocking). he even mentions how the best player in the leage, steph curry, dominates an advanced stat that he then chooses to ignore. like nerdy sports fans start and end every conversation with WAR and thats all that matters. like they only watch the numbers change as opposed to the actual basketball being played. wilbon's a known troglodyte on these things anyways so of course he is going to be biased against them. also that ending about dwight howard is sweet icing on the cake for me. dwight howard was 61st in PER, 69th in WS/48 and 91st in VORP. advanced stats have always shown how overrated a guy like Howard is but Wilbon talks to a friend of his who says how advanced stats love howard. seriously f*** wilbon, all his dumb old friends, and this article. advanced stats are for smart people, and younger people can learn + apply these newer techniques easier. its not a race thing. its an old codger 'get off my lawn thing.' http://www.clipsnation.com/2016/5/24/11764852/a-response-to-michael-wilbon-on-sports-analytics
  8. its a game of runs, we all know that, but just the way the script is always the same is what irks me. every 3Q is alike. i dont know how or why. i have theorized that Casey doesnt make adjustments at half time and gets jumped on by the other team but its just a guess.
  9. we seem to be the team that plays up or down to the competition. also i have heard us compared to that old pistons team a lot lately which is ridiculous. we dont have nearly the leadership/intagibles and defensive identity that those pistons teams had. i sort of see us more as that mavericks team that could never get over the hump for a few seasons until they won the ship.
  10. now i have to remember this again. thanks.
  11. well i mean that is also super biased which i was trying to avoid. cincy has no stake in odor vs bautista at all. of course any fan is gonna hate to see a home team player get hit. a good comparable would be like asking BJMB their reaction to Puig punching Harper in the face (or something along those lines).
  12. nah man i cant just chalk this up to something like that. most people hate bautista. there is no reason to think that a cincinnati reds board is full of old crusty thinking guys. there are some for sure but the general sentiment of that thread is 'screw bautista'. i think there were 1 or 2 guys who didnt outright hate him but even then they hedged a lot.
  13. that was the quintessential raptors win. come out early and take a nice lead into the 2nd half. immediately blow it all in the 3rd quarter. then keep their head above water with hot shooting in 4Q to get the win. cant tell you how many times i watched this happen throughout the season. its great when we win but those 3Q always kill me, and now that its happening in the playoffs... fuhgeddaboudit.
  14. was looking for info on recent cinci reds call ups and stumbled upon this. gotta figure thats pretty unbiased. everybody hates bautista. http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?111450-Roughned-Odor
  15. i hated it and took flack for it. it was not a good trade then and is even worse now. i also loved the hendriks for chavez trade for a similar reason and took flack for it. granted i thought chavez would be a SP. not trying to pat myself on the back here i just hate these roller coaster relievers (which is 99% of all RPs). dont pay them money and dont give up assets for them unless u get the 1%. if u absolutely need them for the stretch run then just jump on a mark lowe type for cheap at the deadline. nobody should consider nick wells + jake brentz assets and lowe was good for us.
  16. there were a lot of people loving this bullpen before the season started. i read many phrases like "this is the best jays bullpen in years" and "we can compete with the other AL East pen's no problem" on this board. a lot of it had to do with the Hendriks trade and he's s*** the bed himself in oakland.
  17. trading JV for the #2 pick would be silly. biyombo is going to cost close to the same $$$ as JV and simply isnt as good. its not like we are saving anything in the long run other than a couple million in cap space a year. plus the draft is such a crapshoot its not like the #2 pick is guaranteed to be good at all. here are 10 years worth of #2 picks. 2015 D'Angelo Russell 2014 Jabari Parker 2013 Victor Oladipo Indiana Orlando 2012 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Kentucky Charlotte 2011 Derrick Williams Arizona Minnesota 2010 Evan Turner Ohio State Philadelphia 2009 Hasheem Thabeet Connecticut Memphis 2008 Michael Beasley Kansas St. Miami 2007 Kevin Durant Texas Seattle 2006 LaMarcus Aldridge Texas Chicago i'd say 3 of them are legitimately better than JV (50/50 on oladipo though), 5 of them are absolutely worse, and the jury is out on Russell and Parker. maybe one of them could be better but I doubt it at this point. TLDR = u guys are batshit crazy if u think trading JV is a good idea.
  18. normally i would agree no question but the report with the slider clearly differentiated between them both. just makes me scratch my head a little bit.
  19. yeah its just a little pessimism. i still like him but i'm just trying to figure out how much and what exactly we have here. the results are nice obviously but i'm still more concerned with how he gets those results. also stuff where one report has him throwing a wipeout slider and the other one not mentioning it once, and one report giving him a solid curve and another giving him a bad curve, gives me pause. thats why i worry its statline scouting. nothing really is definitive on this guy yet.
  20. all i am saying is he is the big pop up pitching spec this year. conner greene was that guy last year. drew hutchison was that guy 5 years ago. is that a gut thing?
  21. pop up guy. hype is building. realistic chance to jump 3 levels in a single season. the same 3 levels conner greene jumped. system is still weak so he will get some serious pub (maybe more than he should). he had a guest spot on the george lopez show. s*** like that
  22. junior lake and aj jimenez went a combined 7for7. broken clocks and all that.
  23. thats a little better. sounds like 60 Fastball, 60 Slider, 45 Curve, and 40 Change. honestly i may even be generous with that fastball grade. for reference steven matz throws 92 and touches 97 but got a 60 grade fastball in the BA handbook this year. i still worry this is just a stat line scouting reaction early in the season though, and that really bothers me because it also sounds like he is getting by on polish against low level hitters. if his slider is truly that good than he should probably scrap the curve and work on the change. he really looks like this years conner greene though. he'll probably end the year in AA.
  24. well there are no plus pitches in that report so there is no way in hell hes a number 2. and he doesnt have 3 average pitches so that doesnt make him a mid rotation starter either. that report gives him and above average fastball and an above average curveball with a sketchy changeup. its bloody hard to be a starter with only 2 pitches. he'll have a big platoon split unless he can improve the change. ftr i think he seems good, its just that report is f***ing stupid and all over the place.
  25. PatPat looks absolutely f***ing terrible. I don't know wtf Casey was thinking starting Scola. Literally nothing good has come of it.
