I'm finally just now at the point where I can appreciate everything the Jays have done this season. It took me a while to calm down after Friday's game and not have my mind clouded from anger. I had a good weekend with my kids, pumpkin picking Saturday morning, visit from grandparents, watched movies and had no sports on all weekend. Mind is clear.
This season is why I've been a fan for so long. The last 6 or 7 years in particular (much thanks to Bautista in all honesty) really re-energized me to root harder for this team than any other in sport. This season started like any other, we were down Stroman and Saunders before things began. I thought for sure we were going to be plagued with injuries all season like we always are - a series of unfortunate events if you will. But even without our go to arm, even with a declining SS, even without our second baseman for most of the season we somehow stayed around .500 all while using a first baseman or AAA depth in left field. We managed to hang around and be that team short a few pieces to be competitive. Then the miracle happens when we get our deadline boost. It showed us what things can be like in a perfect world, when a GM's back is against the wall and he's forced to make a move. With great hitting up and down the line up, excellent infield defense and with a trio of outfielders who for the most part are better than we've had in a long time, things quickly turned our way. We might not have gone all the way, we certainly got the s*** end of the stick but we did get to see meaningful baseball in September and more importantly in October and for that I am truly thankful for the never give up attitude throughout this organization.
And the best news? Most of this team will be in tact next year. We will see this line up for seasons to come. We will see stroshow for years ahead, we will get to watch Osuna develop in to a complete pitcher whichever direction that takes him be it starter or closer. We will see what our rotation will look like when AA (or whoever) focuses purely on pitching in a FA rich off season. We have a fan base that is arguably louder & prouder than any in the league coupled with a front office who wants to win again. I can't wait until April 4th to continue this new chapter. I don't care what NY, Boston, Baltimore or Tampa does. I care about this team, the best team in baseball to cheer for and one we've been waiting decades for to be in this position. We will win that pennant again, whether that's next year or soon after and we will celebrate with a grand display of fireworks & rum.
With that said... Go Mets Go. Go Mets Go.
