Is that really Shapiro's job though or is it the person he brings in as the GM? That's starting to cloud what Shapiro's role is here. If LaCava is the interim GM he very well might keep Gibbons.
Blue Jays president & CEO Mark Shapiro will address the media at 2:00 p.m. ET. Catch it live live on all four regional channels, sportsnet.ca and Sportsnet 590 The Fan.
I get that, but he could be more successful than Hutchison, Sanchez or Osuna as a SP... We just don't know what this version of himself brings. I don't think there is an issue giving him a couple 3+ inning appearances in Spring Training.
So instead we should just add up his doubles and homeruns like its 1950 and call it a day? lol Trout lead the league in slugging and OPS if you want more basic stats that incorporates your line of thought.
When evaluating the best offensive player in the league you don't think the park matters? You don't think Trout would have a better offensive year than JD playing at Rogers Centre and hitter friendly AL East parks?
Uhmm.. So let's look at all the numbers JD did well in but ignore wRC+ for what reason? That's probably the most important figure when evaluating offensive production and that one was nearly 20pts higher for a reason...
The thing I don't get is why AA would walk when his contract had a 1 year opt-out clause. I get that no one can force him to sign, but this was his team and maybe he could have learned a thing or two from Shapiro. Worse case he could have taken the high road after giving it a shot and then saying we're just not a good fit.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
