  1. I honestly have zero reason to believe McCown's claim. Why in the world would Rogers even think about cutting payroll to under $100 million. First of all I have a hard time believing Shapiro would even take the job if he knew that was coming. Second, you already have almost $110 million tied up in salary without addressing any needs so unless you firesale Donaldson, EE and Bautista it really doesn't seem realistic. Not to mention if Blue Jays management knew of payroll going down why would they take any chance in offering Estrada the QO? Even from Rogers perspective why the hell would they cut payroll after coming off such a great season in which they made record revenues? Seems more like Bob is mad at Rogers for the Beeston situation than anything.
  2. Yeah I found the policy. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/examining-mlbs-new-domestic-violence-policy/ I don't think you should trust the court tbh. We have seen athletes not get charged even if they are guilty. Look at Greg Hardy, Ben Roethlisberger, Kobe Bryant etc... I honestly don't mind the grey are in this set of circumstances since sexual assault and domestic violence are two of the worst crimes you can commit and shouldn't have a fixed punishment. Although I see what you are saying where a player will get suspended based on how good of a player he is. Like theoretically if Mike trout or Josh Donaldson were the one to commit this crime would they receive the same punishment as Jose Reyes? Wonder if the Rockies can void his contract if he does or doesn't get convicted.
  3. The sad thing is there are probably players in MLB right now who have done worse but it just never got reported.
  4. Did the MLB come up with a protocol for domestic abuse cases? Like what if no charges are laid on Reyes? (for many reasons seems to happen a lot) Would they still have the authority to suspend him 50? 100? games
  5. Certainly interesting story. I'm sure coke is pretty big problem in MLB like it is the other Major sportss so it will be interesting to see what MLB does about it. Bad day for MLB in the PR department.
  6. I'd rather take the position player. Less injury risk.
  7. coaches can make players so much better though. A great coach probably can make Derozan an effective player.
  8. Having a great coach probably helps them attracting FA. Lowry was an elite player for most of last year so maybe he regains his form.
  9. Do we want to go down the college route? The last thing I'd want as a Raps fan is another awful in-game manager. Bob Voulgaris who seems like a really smart NBA guy was recently tweeting that almost all college coaches flame out in the NBA. Weird random stat: Ollie was a point guard yet attempted 29 3-point attempts in his entire career.
  10. How many MLB players smoke weed like 10-15%? I don't get how you can suspend minor leaguers for it yet not guys on the 40 man roster.
  11. What coaches could the Raptors realistically hire?
  12. Had up to age 26 so that'd be why I didn't see Donaldson. Still should of realized that though lol. I'd still say players with long term control coming off that good of a season hardly ever get traded. Teams value cheap years of control more than ever now. Obviously Pillar projected to be an annual 4 Win player because of the likelihood of him replicating the defense he produced. Still, I don't see him being traded.
  13. funny how bad Beeston is eh? If I can make 10K selling blue jays tickets part time you know your ticket technology is out of date.
  14. Going back to 2012 the only player I found to get traded in a similar situation as Pillar was Ben Revere to the Phillies from the Twins. And he didn't have nearly as good of a season as Pillar did.
  15. I probably shouldn't of used a number. Just think that players players with on rookie salaries with long term control rarely get traded anymore. So if you do trade him then you might not get his "full value" back.
  16. What is the point of "selling high" if you only get back 75% of his value? I think there is potential in the bat, he looked better in the last couple months. Pillar is the perfect high floor CF the team needs. If you trade him and Pompey falters then you are stuck with no CF which would be a huge risk to take. I hate the notion on here that just because a player had a great season we have to "sell high" and trade them for an outstanding package that might not even exist. Donaldson probably had the best year he will ever have in his career. Should the Blue Jays sell high on him? Of course not.
  17. http://www.tsn.ca/anthopoulos-leaves-jays-after-rejecting-extension-1.384678 You guys underestimate how bad Beeston was at his job...
  18. I'll start off by saying I'm not a swing expert or a scout. People in the game don't like his swing. Its very arms heavy and scouts say he'll never reach his power potential. I think I read on FG that he struggles with pitches inside and premium velocity because of it. That being said he's obviously very successful as is but when he was coming up people thought he had the potential to be a top 10 hitter with 30 HRs.
  19. You almost never see players like Pillar traded. Players with 5 years of control and on rookie contracts coming off a 4 WAR season is extremely valuable to the team and you never would get full value in a trade.
  20. Well Donaldson got an actual boost in numbers with the switch. Maybe Heyward would think being around such good hitters he could improve as well. Maybe pay a visit to swing expert Bobby Tewksberry
  21. I'd take Pillar out of that group. Thats why I don't see Shapiro overseeing a trade where we trade more prospects.
  22. Harrison Barnes would of been a great pick if he fell 1 more spot. Although I don't think he would be close to the same player if Casey was his coach all along. NBA coaches make such a big difference.
  23. If you have a championship contender and pick outside the top 10 its not a bad move. There are so many "high ceiling" picks that bust at the top of drafts. Having a rotational player on a rookie contract is still really valuable.
