  1. Even if you want him back why tender him a contract if he's projected to get 1.8 million? Thole isn't getting a major league job anywhere else so he really has no leverage. Either accept league min with Toronto and get a chance to be on the Major league roster and earn major league salary or take a minor league contract elsewhere.
  2. lol look at the June numbers... Obviously wasn't the same. Also Cecil seems more valuable in the setup role/high leverage role so its better that he was in that role at the end of the season.
  3. I noticed Thole was included in the off season thread and in the projected 108 Million. To me it seems there is zero way you even tender a contract to him. If he comes back it should be at league min. Thats a savings of 1.3 Million right there.
  4. Cecil's problems were in June when he walked a guy an inning. He was closing in June IIRC but lost the job to Osuna. Cecil in the 2nd half more specifically September was just downright filthy.
  5. I think there is still lots of value in the mid tier guys. Shark, Iwakuma, Anderson all seem like good targets.
  6. 2 Million seems like a pretty low risk for a high reward. He has the talent level to be a 3 WAR player. Obviously it depends on the knee but even him at 1st base vs RHP wouldn't be bad.
  7. Even though you get all of those guys "back" injuries will happen and you will lose other guys. I'm not so sure Revere is here to start the season anyway. Saunders looked to be better and half the cost.
  8. Yeah Hendriks should of seen more high leverage situations. IIRC Cecil simply wasn't good in the first couple of months so that move was justified IMO. Those relievers we let go on waivers turned out to be s*** so they really wouldn't of helped the team.
  9. True. Whats the estimated value of the 26th pick in the draft these days? If Estrada declines it makes it easier to lose the 26th pick I would think
  10. So with Anderson, Iwakuma, Kennedy, Lackey, Shark and Gallardo all receiving QO does that change anyone's willingness to sign one of them? Gallardo I wouldn't sign regardless but the other 5 seem to be decent targets. Edit: With all of these pitchers getting QO have to think Estrada will be more likely to sign it since it really screws his market.
  11. I don't think there is any question Osuna was very valuable for the club in the pen. Are you forgetting how bad the pen was in the first half of the season when Osuna was really the only one performing for a while.
  12. The team should be pretty good next year. Couple holes in the rotation but as it stands now the lineup is still the best in baseball. Defensively they look to be a. top 5 team as well
  13. I would trade him for anything depending on the value coming back. If thats a position player so be it. I feel like you could replace him with a FA like Lowe and not have much of a drop off. Cecil and Hendriks are the best relievers on the team IMO and would be just as good closing.
  14. Wonder how Shapiro views character and makeup. Lackey has been questioned for his character in the past and doesn't exactly act like the ideal starter on the mound. Criticizing Umps, teammates on errors etc..
  15. There's a good chance Osuna is at peak value. I think a good comparison is Nafteli Feliz. Came up through the system looking like an elite arm, started out in the bullpen and dominated. After a couple of really good years in the pen to start out his career he just never was the same. They tried to convert him to a starter and it didn't work out and by the time he moved back to the pen he was bad.
  16. I wonder if he can make an adjustment to his curveball. Throw it harder with less break. I think the reason why the curve isn't very successful despite it having a ton of movement is the velo separation is too large. Guys can sit fastball and adjust to the curve since it is so slow.
  17. It isn't a 26 IP sample size though. 2.68 SIERA in the last 2 years as a reliever in 59 IP. He's definitely a good reliever but I'm in favour of trading him myself. Young reliever performance is so volatile that his value could be at its highest right now.
  18. You are forgetting they took on the awful BJ Upton contract. At the time it looked like 40 million of dead money.
  19. Come on man.... At least look at his numbers as a reliever if you are going to call him a 4.6 FIP reliever.
  20. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/nov/04/padres-kennedy-likely-qualifying-offer/ Sounds like they will offer him one. If I was him I'd accept it. SD great pitcher park where he kind of got unlucky last year, and he has been healthy so his injury risk is very small for a pitcher.
  21. I don't think there is a chance SD would accept that. They could get much better offers from other teams. If Sanchez is in a package have to think Pompey or Alford would have to be included in it. Since SD was so hard to deal with last year I'm not even sure what their MO is for this season.
  22. He's not bad but I don't think he's worth 42 million. Especially if he has the QO attached. Certainly not worth 18 million more than Happ who has proven he can pitch in the AL East while Kennedy's been in the NL his entire career.
  23. Seems like resources should be spent elsewhere. Cecil, Hendriks and Osuna look like elite relievers. If you sign a Lowe and get another FA the pen should be fine. Even Loup's peripherals suggest he wasn't so bad. Of course injuries and drop off in performace is really common in relievers but I think you can take that risk if you have 5 very good pen arms.
  24. I think Preller is a terrible GM and there is a reason no one acquired Ross last year. Pretty sure they asked for some ridiculous package with Stroman in it IIRC. So it really don't matter what any of us think a fair deal is if SD doesn't want to trade him.
  25. Those seem like awful predictions. Honestly, see them signing any of those 3 at those prices. If JA Happ is only going to cost "24 Million" why the hell would you give Kennedy 42?
