  1. They made the highest offer to Edwin and got Bautista on a reasonable two year deal when he apparently wanted 150m a year ago, and people will still call them cheap and claim they want to rebuild. Toronto fans are not the brightest.
  2. They need outfielders. He will probably play RF again and they'll live with the s*** defence and hope his bat comes back around. Adding another player that can platoon with Upton would be great, whether Moss or Valbuena.
  3. Hope there's a team option in there.
  4. How dare you mock a tournament where a catcher in his mid-30's will play SS, and two retired pitchers will pitch for Team Canada. It's totally legitimate and necessary.
  5. That's possible, and I;d be fine with it if they add more minor league catching depth in Buffalo since AJ can't stay healthy. Please god no do not bring Navarro back.
  6. Yeah the Jays will end up signing a catcher who has no aspirations of getting a lot of playing time so it probably won't be a good one.
  7. Wouldn't surprise me. Not sure it's priority with four years of control remaining, but Shapiro has a history of signing players to team friendly deals during their arb years.
  8. Iannetta signs with the D-Backs.
  9. I'm surprised Shapiro is not more Ricciardi-esque with his answers given how much unnecessary crap he and Atkins get despite being good at their jobs.
  10. Most WAR per dollar regardless of need makes me think Valbuena, but they'd have to concede that Smoak is useless for that to work.
  11. I can almost visualize the neck-bearded rage that the Sportsnet comment section will have after reading a quote like that.
  12. Carrera is not good. Gibbons thinks he is. That's a problem.
  13. I don't think it necessarily means JD is moved (unless they are out of it at the deadline), but I think they def want that comp pick for Bautista. They clearly want to add as much to the farm system as they can.
  14. Bautista, Pagan, and Iannetta should come at less than $30m assuming Joey takes the QO amount on a one year deal. Or you can do Valbuena, Pagan, and Moss for less than $20m in this market, and have money left over. I mean, the market is s***, but they'll be able to add wins.
  15. They have probably $30m to spend and a ton of FA's still out there. They'll add players.
  16. Jays might be waiting until all the arb figures are fixed before proceeding. Stroman is the only real big arb case left, and Loup shouldn't be hard to sign. Maybe they'll finally do something after all that is settled.
  17. Agreed, I don't want Carrera on the team at all, but if they sign Bautista it's probably going to be for $17-20m since his ego won't take less than the QO, so how much would they have left for another OF plus a back up catcher and whatever else they want to add? Trading Carrera would erase my fear of him starting, but if he's on the roster, then I'm pretty sure I know how the story is going to unfold. Gibby loves him. If they sign someone like Moss, and Carrera is starting in right, then f***. If not Jose, then they better sign two OF's and trade Carrera, even if it's for a bit player.
  18. If they re-sign Bautista, they'll probably just role with Zeke/Upton in LF. If they don't sign Bautista, then they better sign two OF's instead.
  19. Having both Carrera and Upton on the team means one of them is probably starting. They won't be starting the year with 5 outfielders in all likelyhood. That's not good.
  20. That MLBTR figure was way too small to begin with. Barney made $2.5m in 2015. It wasn't going to be lower than that.
  21. Just to be clear, I loved the off-season AA had in 2015 (Donaldson, Travis, Martin, Saunders, etc). I hated 2013-14, and was kind of indifferent to 2010-12 since he was all over the place but at least seemed to have a long-term plan. Where 2015 went to mush was when Stro got hurt and since AA never accumulated any depth it lead to derpy moves left and right until he doubled down mid season. I'm sorry, as nice as those two playoff appearances were (one of which he wasn't even around for), I'm not going to look past how he got there. I want a team that wins every year, or at least has a chance to. Not one that makes the playoffs once and then the GM leaves as a hero so he doesn't have to deal with the backloaded aftermath and detonated upper minors that he created/left behind. Shapiro coming in saved the org.
  22. So let's trade more prospects for Votto then, so that kids everywhere (the same ones who will tune out the moment the team gets old and sucks) can have a memory for a year.
  23. Well that was probably too strong. I dislike Alex as a GM but the fan worship the guy has from bandwagon Jays fans turns it into hate for me. The way he built the team in 2013-15 you would think he was as old as Mike Ilitch.
  24. Yeah I hate AA with a passion but that 2015 team should have won the World Series. The playoffs in baseball are a crap shoot and the Jays fell victim to the BABIP overlords known as the Royals.
