  1. Travis a non prospect, Zach Stewart a future front of the rotation starter, etc, etc. If Law says something about a prospect, expect the opposite to happen.
  2. Edwin is 34, Fowler is 31, Cutch is 30, etc. This team wasn't going to get younger, not with free agency or (realistic) trade targets. Develop some prospects, and the age will go down naturally.
  3. Damn. Law is always wrong. Now I'm worried.
  4. Bautista with a projected 130 wRC+. I could live with that.
  5. Upton does everything better than Carrera. If those two are the LF tandem, then start Upton and use Zeke as the 4th OF.
  6. If Pompey comes out strong in spring training, then Carrera can easily be pushed aside. That's really the only benefit I can see to this. I'm sure the front office would love if a young player wins a spot (like Sanchez last year). I'm not sure what to expect out of Pompey in 2017 or going forward but I'd take him over Zeke in a second.
  7. Ugh. So I guess Carrera gets the bulk of the AB's against RHP to start the season, he completely craps the bed, and then is replaced/demoted in May. 2016 Colabello minus the PED's: where everyone knows the regression is coming but no one does anything about it. Have to hope Pompey wins the LF job.
  8. Agreed. Back-up catchers usually suck. Thole was able to suck worse than suck itself so he's really an outlier. Jimenez could probably provide what most back-ups would for the league minimum. A scrub catcher and Blevins/Wood/whoever over Jimenez and Loup probably won't make any tangible difference. Maybe half a win better? But then you compare Carrera to someone like Moss or Pagan, and it's a real opportunity to add to the team's projected win total.
  9. Remarkable to look back and realize that the Jays traded Mike Napoli (when he was still a catcher), Carlos Perez, Yan Gomes, and Travis d'Arnaud during the time that JPA was starting catcher. They put a lot of faith in him and it did not pay off even a little bit.
  10. The options in this deal were designed to impress the people who post comments on Sportsnet.ca (in other words people with an IQ in the negatives). I can't imagine either Bautista's camp or the Jays working these options out while holding a straight face. They should have added a 2020 option which get triggered if Bautista hits 300 home runs from 2017-19, just for shits and giggles.
  11. Any scenario where Bautista picks up the option, the Jays will decline it. And vice versa. It's a one year deal.
  12. How expensive is Moss going to be? Wouldn't mind Pagan either, but Moss is younger and should be a better defensive player in the outfield. Get him for 1/5, trade Carrera to save a mil, and good to go.
  13. Well, one of those OF's is awful defensively and 36 years old, the other is a replacement level player who is likely to regress (Carrera), and the other is a platoon 4th OF (Upton). I mean, Jimenez isn't good or anything, but at least his position is usually occupied by a s***** player. The outfield definitely should be a higher priority.
  14. Yeah this is basically a one year deal. If he has a great year then he'll decline the option, and if he's average or stinks, then the Jays will. One year is definitely less risky. Let him have a big year and then leave. No issues with that. I'll pour some liquor for the lost comp pick though. Was looking forward to 3 firsts.
  15. When Kenny Ken lays it down, you know it's real. Still don't like one year plus a mutual option, but I guess if Bats would have waited until June to sign, then it left them with no choice. He was clearly the best guy available.
  16. If the mutual option is after year 1, then it's basically a one year deal regardless.
  17. Morales' deal was confirmed though. It just wasn't made official until later. No one has confirmed Bautista's deal to this point. It may not even be done yet.
  18. In that scenario, Jays get a pick, and Bautista looks bad for bailing. Genius.
  19. Maybe they told you to set up a live cam but it was unrelated to Bautista. Or baseball. I'd touch base with HR.
  20. Valbuena is definitely the guy to target, not only for an upgrade at first, but he can play multiple positions, and the Jays don't have much depth. Don't think they'll have enough available funds to get him though.
  21. Aren't buyouts accounted for in the present year? For example, if I am remembering this correctly, Rajai Davis had a $3mm team option and $500k buyout. Alex bought him out for $500k and then re-signed him for $2.5mm. So Davis did not lose any money, but the Jays saved $500k on the following year's payroll.
  22. That doesn't seem like a trade Shapiro would have made. Have my doubts about the validity of it.
  23. Yeah it's a shame that ST injury in 2015 destroyed him.
