  1. Bichette up to a 133 wRC+ (Vlad at 139). Having a big season at the right time.
  2. SN is pretty bad in general but you see it more clearly when you watch the same play on another feed.
  3. I saw the Kirk double on the Jays feed and then rewatched it on the Reds feed, and the Reds feed was 100% better in terms of the camera catching the entire play. Sportsnet really is not good at that.
  4. The 3 batter minimum makes pitchers like Borucki a lot less desirable to roster. How down on Adam Macko must the Jays be to have him on the 40 man roster yet still see him as less of an option than Borucki?
  5. I said it before, IKF is going to start a few times a week. John Schneider is what he is (unfortunately).
  6. It's interesting because other than Hoffman and Dominguez, the rest of the pen (that are healthy) has no track record. Varland has been good this season (recent stretch aside) but that's it. Fisher is a rookie. Nance is in his mid-30's and didn't do much prior to this season. Yariel was a starter last season. Little had a -0.5 WAR for his career coming into this season. Fluharty and Schultz are rookies. And so on. You can make the argument that Schneider's blind faith in Hoffman is actually justified because at least there's a track record of elite performance there, even if it was only a couple of seasons. The rest is really hit or miss. Bullpens are volatile to begin with but relievers with no real track record just adds to it. As much grief as Schneider gets, he's been put in a tough situation here with the pen. Some of it is his own doing with the bullpen usage (or over usage), which may have contributed a bit to the meltdowns recently, but beyond that, there's a bunch of unproven arms that he has to trust because he has no choice. Garcia's injury is really underrated as far as significance, that was a huge blow.
  7. I don’t mind babying the starters to some degree as long as the pen usage is spread out to avoid relievers getting overworked, but if the game is close then Schneider is only going to use the guys he wants to use. Hoffman for example has at least 5 instances this season where he pitched 4 of 5 days. Little was pitching practically everyday when he was going well early on. Yimi came off the IL and threw 30+ pitches in his first outing back, then was never seen again. Even yesterday they could have just rolled with Nance, for better or worse, but had Little warming up as soon as Nance threw his first pitch. The pen holding up all season with their early season usage was probably a pipe dream in hindsight.
  8. Schneider and the Jays have prioritized resting starters consistently, whether it be with extra rest or super low pitch counts and early hooks. The pen was used pretty hard early on. It might just be catching up to them
  9. Nance gave up a hard single to McLain but the two hitters prior to that had EV’s of 71.5 and 82.7. There was really no reason to pull him. My guess is the stats told JS to go to a LHP when it got the top of the lineup, and he blindly went with that. Zero feel for the game.
  10. Looking at the splits, Friedl and Marte are both significantly worse against LHP. So the move to Little wasn't illogical and in the end it might be easier to just blame Little for not doing the job, but he hasn't been doing the job for months, so as a manager you have to have some feel for the game and take recency into account. Hell, bring Lauer into the game if he's in the pen now. Little is broken and has been for a while.
  11. Since June 1, Little has a BB/9 of 7.2. Since June! If you look at his numbers since July and since August, they get progressively worse. This BS of "he's my guy" and using 5 expletives in every post game interview to show how much support you have for whoever messed up that particular day is great when you're a minor league manager, but when you're playing in a division race, you need to adjust on decision making.
  12. This is definitely on JS. Little has pitched a lot recently and has been awful for the most part. Nance has pitched well, and there was only one LHB coming up (Friedl). Elly is a switch hitter if it got to him. No reason to take Nance out there. If he lost the game for you then you live with it, but bringing in Little when Nance gave up 2 singles (one of them being 71 mph) was ridiculous over managing.
  13. Little with 2 runners on and 1 out. No stress or anything.
  14. It was definitely ego driven to send Lauer to the pen, can't really send any of the other 5 there, but probably not the most egregious decision. I don't know if Lauer would have been able to sustain his performance enough to justify a 6 man rotation down the stretch. Besides that, Berrios has been here for a few years with a big contract, and Bassitt is an impending FA (demoting him to the pen would hurt him in other ways), so Lauer really had no shot. Giving up 17 home runs in his last start at least made the decision a little easier.
  15. Yeah would be very disappointing if Yesavage wasn't added. There isn't much the Jays can do to add upside to the roster the rest of the way. He's one of the only (or the only) way to actually do it. No guarantee he would be effective, but still a move that should be (or should have been) made.
  16. Get the noose ready. IKF is 100% someone Schneider will start a few times a week at a minimum.
  17. Schneider would take a bullet before he sits Clement, and don't think Gimenez against RHP is in any danger of losing playing time. IKF has a 37 wRC+ against LHP this season, but he bats right handed, so I guess that makes a Gimenez/IKF platoon something they'll end up doing. I really don't see the fit there other than wanting to double down on more defense.
  18. Honestly at this rate I’d be tempted to call up Yesavage and pray he turns into a good RP for a month. Other than calling up Fisher, which will be pointless because Schneider doesn’t view him as anything special, there’s not much the team can do. Hoffman should not be the closer though. Maybe make the closer spot a fluid situation based on what batters are up in the 9th rather than go to Hoffman because it’s the 9th or a “sAvE sItUaTiOn”.
  19. I don’t understand why the same manager who couldn’t pick Braydon Fisher out of a lineup despite his results seems to have unwavering confidence in Varland who has only been a good reliever for 4 months of his career (on another team). Varland gave up runs in the Miami game that eventually went to extra innings, then the Twins game which Hoffman eventually blew, and now this. Fix him, then start using him in high leverage again.
  20. Yeah not sure I like Varland in this spot.
  21. This is Bieber’s 2nd start. He likely wasn’t going to throw 100 pitches. Unfortunately the Jays pen has not been good lately. The Jays will probably need a lot of help from the White Sox and Pirates this weekend, and that’s terrifying.
  22. The Jays don’t like facing bad teams apparently, so this matchup is probably good for them. Should be a bunch of hard fought games.
  23. Yeah setting up a relationship for a 2026 minor league deal would make more sense than expecting him to accomplish anything here in a few weeks. He’s still relatively young and is apparently showing good exit velo’s in the minors, so let Popkins work with him next spring and see what happens.
