    Looking at the FA list, cheap players who would fit the DH/1B/OF mold short term: Corey Dickerson (31) Eric Thames (33) — $7.5MM club option with a $1MM buyout Brad Miller (30) Justin Smoak (33) Didn't realize Miller turned into a statcast darling this season. He'd be a pretty decent signing if he can maintain it. Dickerson is another one who looks interesting and may not get a lot of attention. Smoak would be the easy one to bring back. Likes it here and might still be a productive hitter.

    I don't agree with giving Tellez more at bats, but agree with the rest. Sign Edwin if you think there's a chance to contend in 2020. He's still a good hitter. However, the Jays have a lot of holes, and spending $10-15m (or whatever it would take) to sign a 37 year old DH when you need at least 3 SPs, a CF, a pen, etc, is kind of pointless. If you could fill all of those holes AND sign Edwin, then that's a different story, but even then as you said getting a younger talent on a longer deal (not necessarily Ozuna/Cast) would be more advantageous. A player like Edwin would have worked for the 2016 team that had a chance to contend and needed short term wins wherever they were available. I don't see it as a great fit for the 2020 team. Plus I'd prefer keeping DH open to rotate players around, especially since we don't know what shape Vlad will be in come March.

    Baseball’s popularity is declining and the fanbase is old. We need more excitement Spanks. Players need to show emotion and make it look exciting for younger viewers. The days of putting your head down and running is over.

    Houston/Washington isn’t the World Series baseball needed (Yankees/Dodgers would have been the best business series) but from a pure baseball standpoint it should be great. Cole, Verlander, Scherzer, Strasburg, Greinke, and Corbin in one series. Yanks are toast and are playing like it.

    Nah, baseball needs more of that. The Brian McCann's of the world are boring as hell and are thankfully going to be phased out eventually. More Correa's, Tim Anderson's, Soto's, etc, is a good thing.

    Lot of talk of a possible rainout tomorrow in the Yanks/Astros series. If that happens, then Greinke and Verlander can go in game 4 and 5 respectively on regular rest, the bullpen game would happen in game 6 (if nec) and game 7 would be Cole again. The Yanks might really regret blowing game 2.

    Wow, the Nats have a real shot at winning a title with their rotation. They’ll be rested too since the ALCS will likely go down to the wire, and this series doesn’t look like it will last much longer.

    Agreed, never been a fan of Tellez. The easy answer might be bringing Smoak back on a cheap one deal. You know he likes it in Toronto, he won't cost much, and he had a bad BABIP last season so he could be a bounce back candidate. Otherwise the team probably wants to spend most of its available money on pitching and an outfielder. Kinda wish they just pressed fast forward on moving Vlad to 1B. An upgrade at third with Vlad moving to first would make the team so much better than Vlad at third and trying to upgrade first, but looks like we are a couple of years away from that.

    I hope so but not sure how high the team is on Tellez. They might just plug him there. I’d look for a 1B upgrade personally.

    My guess is Hernandez is the DH next season and they acquire a CF from another team/free agency. I doubt he'd have much trade value right now and he was probably the 2nd best OF on the team last season behind Gurriel, so it's not like he's expendable. Put him at DH, cycle all the OF's (and Vlad) in the DH spot, use Fisher as the 4th OF, and that's probably the offence next season.

    Finally a real source reporting about this and it sounds like positive news (screw you, Jonah!). Interesting that Atkins has an additional year on his deal.

    Yup I'm rooting for the Nats now because they actually have four starters who they will use to actually start games in the playoffs. Even the Stros and Yankees are having a bullpen game in game 4 apparently. The Nats just throw out 4 SPs and are winning. No openers. The way it should be.

    8/280. I think that's what the Jays would have to offer to get him. Every team interested in him will offer 7 years and likely around $34-35m a year, so the Jays will have to go beyond somehow.

    Even the Baseball God's didn't want to see the Rays advance. Astros/Yankees in a 7 game series is what baseball needs. Should be great.

    They'd be forced to use them against at least 3 batters, and not use 3 pitchers to get 3 outs like they did 10 minutes ago, dumbass.

    2013: 62 wRC+, 0.4 WAR, 313 PA 2014: 83 wRC+, 0.1 WAR, 225 PA 2015: 96 wRC+, 2.0 WAR, 390 PA 2016: 64 wRC+, -0.2 WAR, 361 PA I mean, yeah Hicks had the nice season in 2015, but he was fairly bad outside of that. Drury had a 1.1 WAR and 92 wRC+ in 2017, and everything else has been s***. I'm not saying it's a perfect comparison, I was just responding to the notion that the Yankees wouldn't bring someone back coming off a terrible season. It's happened. Of course the Yankees could turn you or me into a good hitter, so I'd give them more of the benefit of the doubt with their judgment calls on players, but like I said Atkins likes Drury for some reason and we just have to live with him being tendered again. I would non tender him, but I'm not the GM.
