  1. The two names mentioned are Lowrie (1/10 remaining) and Familia (2/23). Clearly if the Jays were to take back a bad contract, Lowrie would be the ideal one. If you think Dominic Smith's 2019 is sustainable, and you can get him for nothing except taking back $10M in dead money, it's worth looking into.
  2. Ideally you get those two plus one of the FA arms that have been discussed before (Keuchel, Pineda, etc), but I can see why both might be overkill. Gausman isn't a difference maker and Walker hasn't pitched in 2 years, so there is a lot of uncertainty there to add to the injury risks associated with Shoemaker/Borucki. Gausman might make more sense for that reason (more likely to eat up better than league average innings and previous success in the AL East) than Walker, though Gausman's market might be busier for that reason as well, so Walker is probably a more likely/realistic sign.
  3. I'd look to sign both Gausman and Walker.
  4. Might be time to cut service time to 5 years and make a player arb eligible after year 2. Being arb3 is pretty much a bad thing now unless you're really good. Being good/average (1-2 WAR) is not good enough anymore.
  5. Taijaun Walker would be an interesting signing. Had TJS in April 2018 so he should be ready to begin the season in 2020 (24 months post surgery by then). Only 27. Shaw is another potential target. He would have 2 years of control (he was arb2) even if he's signed to a one year deal, plus has the versatility that Atkins claimed he wanted out of first base.
  6. I hope Drury and the Jays actually go to an arbitration hearing. Might as well make this BS entertaining.
  7. Law and Maile non tendered. Shoemaker tendered.
  8. Considering the players getting non tendered, it would be sad if Drury is kept at $2.5 million, but really I think anyone expecting him to be non tendered is fooling themselves. I hope I’m wrong.
  9. Yeah the time to take advantage of cheap free agent prices might be over, at least this winter. I didn’t expect Shatkins to go crazy anyway but certainly less likely now. We will see.
  10. I was firmly on the Sanchez Sucks bandwagon but he’s going to miss most of 2020 (if not all). The Astros might have NT him anyway even if he was healthy but I guess we will never know.
  11. Damn. Sanders leaving is a huge loss. The Jays drafting since he took over has been very good.
  12. If free agent prices continue at this pace, I find it hard to see Shatkins overpaying for someone in the upper/middle tier of free agents.
  13. The Reds rotation also looks pretty good with Bauer, Gray, Castillo, and DeSclafani. Apparently still have money to spend as well.
  14. Profar traded to the Padres.
  15. Atkins has a man crush on Drury, and Maile has 1 option remaining according to FG so he could realistically stay in AAA in case of injury. Law is 50/50. To me, all 3 of them should be non tendered, but wouldn't shock me if all 3 are tendered.
  16. I think the 3/39 prediction for Keuchel is way too low. He should be able to get at least 4 years from some team, at a higher AAV.
  17. In Drury’s case, having options remaining might be his only strength, and I’m not sure that even matters if it costs $2.5m. I expect the Jays to tender him because they seem to think he is better than he actually is, but with actually good utility players being non tendered/available, I don’t see any reason why a terrible utility player should be a priority to hold on to.
  18. Another name from that MLBTR non tender list is Travis Shaw. Can play 1B and 3B, coming off a s***** season but two 3+ WAR seasons before that. If he’s available I could see the Jays being a fit.
  19. Seriously, with Profar being a non tender candidate (and all that’s happened with Villar), it’s damn near crazy to tender Drury at this point.
  20. Anderson: $9 million in 2020 Gibson: $10 million a year for three years
  21. I don't see why the Jays would spend $9m on Anderson almost immediately after the off season began if they were just going to cheap out the rest of the way. Gibson literally got $1m more AAV than the Jays will pay Anderson in 2020. My hope is that it means the Jays are aiming a lot higher in subsequent pickups. If it means Roark and Miley will round out the rest of the rotation, then that would be pretty damn disappointing.
  22. Either aiming higher, maybe one of the Boras guys, or waiting for the bargains. Of course maybe Gibson just wanted to sign with Texas/not Toronto. I really hope Roark is not the best guy we end up with.
