  1. After today's game... Merrifield: 119 wRC+, 386 PA Vladdy: 118 wRC+, 446 PA Just as we all predicted before the season.
  2. Schneider's usage today was fine other than using Garcia in the 9th. I'm not sure how many innings, if any, Pearson threw in AAA after he was sent down, but letting him go another inning after throwing 7 pitches in a 6-1 game seemed pretty logical. I'm guessing Schneider just gets turned on by the more relievers he can use in a single game.
  3. Schneider going to need a cigarette in the post game with the reliever usage today. Not sure why Pearson couldn’t close it out considering he threw like 7 pitches in the 8th.
  4. Don’t tease me with the power, Kirk, unless it sticks around. Let Pearson finish this.
  5. Mets would be smart to get off their commitments to Scherzer and Verlander if they can.
  6. Schneider rubbing his hands together in the dugout knowing he will use every reliever in the pen today.
  7. The Jays should trade for Scherzer just so we can see what happens when Max is at 89 pitches in the 6th inning and sees Schneider coming to the mound to take him out.
  8. Manoah against a heavy LHH lineup probably isn't a good thing, then again Manoah against anyone hasn't been good this season.
  9. Find an available reliever with at least an additional year of control left, and that’s a far more likely target for Atkins than Hader. That applies to all the trade targets most likely. He doesn’t like trading for rentals. Maybe he goes after Hernandez from the Royals or something like that. There was talk he could be moved.
  10. Hope Ohtani is ok, but the Jays caught a huge break here.
  11. Man just saw the Bichette running mistake, that could be very costly. Angels basically handed them a run and they didn't take it.
  12. Looking at the leaderboard (minimum 350 PA), Varsho's wRC+ heading into tonight (74) was the 3rd worst in baseball. I think he can catch Myles Straw (71), but not sure about Javy Baez (61).
  13. Manoah against a LHH lineup like the Angels tomorrow might change that perception quickly.
  14. If the Angels sweep the DH today, then they would be 3 games back of the Jays for the last WC spot with 3 games head to head in Toronto this weekend. I wish the Jays were either winning the division (obviously) or in the top WC spot, because it appears that the most realistic way the Angels get in would be if the Jays miss out. If there is a way for the Jays and Angels to both make it in, then count me in. I just don't see it happening (for the Angels). They are not better than any team in the AL East, and not better than the Astros/Rangers either, so I don't see a realistic path for them other than to pocket the attendance revenue that Ohtani generates and then watch him leave.
  15. Kirk hasn’t hit for power in over a year. There’s a good chance this is the new norm for him, which is fine since at worst that’s a good backup, but I wouldn’t bet on that (combined with weight issues) being better than Jansen over the next 3-5 years. Re-sign Jansen and if Kirk’s power comes back, then it’s a good problem to have, but at this rate I’m not betting on a singles hitting fatty as my long term catcher.
  16. When Atkins is made aware that teams are in fact allowed to extend talent that they’ve developed, his mind will be blown. Hopefully Shapiro clues him in this winter. Vlad and Bo are understandable since they likely want $300M plus but extending Jansen should not be that complicated unless he doesn’t want to be here.
  17. The Angels will hold on to Ohtani even if they lose every game from now until the deadline. Morosi Tweeted about a potential trade because that's what he does to get clicks, but there was never any validity to it, not when Arte Moreno is involved.
  18. 8-1 and terrified of using Mitch White. If dude is still in the org when Ryu is activated then there’s some conspiracy s*** going on.
  19. Still shocked he wasn’t extended already. Hopefully it happens this winter. Kirk turning into s*** might expedite the process.
  20. Schneider probably sweating as he fights the urge to take Kikuchi out right now.
  21. This is his age 33 season and he’s locked up for ages 34-36. I think the days of him being a 4 WAR player are probably over regardless but now it’s a question of how much he’s going to decline and how quickly. If Atkins was let go, then it’s possible the new GM would try to off load that contract, but Atkins won’t.
  22. For what? Mitch White? Literally anyone else. Manoah should have stayed down and Francis started (now I guess put Ryu in place of Manoah).
  23. The Orioles keep calling up prospects without trades or injuries. They just cycle the playing time. The Jays prefer to play the starters are much as possible, which is fine, except one of them has a 74 wRC+ in LF and either needs a platoon partner or needs to be playing a lot less in general. Like I said, I'm curious to see what Atkins does. You have Orelvis, Barger, Schneider, and Horowitz who can all help the 2024 team. Schneider and Barger can probably help the 2023 team as well given they can play 2B/LF, and Varsho/Espinal/Biggio all kinda stink right now. Will they be used as trade bait or players the club will try to cycle onto the roster? I think the former is more likely than the latter with all of them except Orelvis (who I suspect they will keep and play at 3B at some point in 2024) but the others are questionable.
  24. I'm surprised and not surprised at the same time. Surprised since they need fresh arms, but not surprised since this team hasn't shown any sense of logic or urgency all season. Keeping ticking time bomb Manoah in the rotation and subsequently risking every game he starts, keeping White on the roster instead of Pearson, Francis, or really anyone else, and so on.
