  1. DeJong had a -0.6 WAR as a Jay coming into the game tonight. Whoever that prospect was we sent to the Cardinals, I miss him. Whatever his name is.
  2. Yeah I think Horowitz’s long term playability depends on whether his recent power surge is a change he’s made or maybe figuring something out from a power standpoint. He has a great profile aside from that so if he develops even decent power then he should be a good 1B/DH option.
  3. Made no sense. Davis is having a historic start, why the hell would they bench him and Chapman at the same time when Bo and KK are already out? At least stagger the off days so that you're not losing too many bats at once. Unless there was an injury to DS, last night's lineup was ridiculous. Any time you look at the lineup card and all of DeJong, Espinal, and Biggio are in it, you might want to reevaluate. If Bo had to get hurt, then I wish it happened a couple of days later (after the deadline). Probably wouldn't have made a difference as the team would have probably just started Espinal at SS instead of Barger, Clement, or someone in the minors, but having DeJong and Espinal on the roster at once is an eye sore.
  4. Yeah calling up Schneider is easier since he can play multiple positions so there are realistic ways to get him into the lineup. With Horowitz he's kinda limited to 1B/DH, so there's not much flexibility. I definitely think he's starting at DH (against RHP) in 2024, though. Just find a decent platoon partner for him.
  5. Do the Jays use any pinch hitters in the 9th or is Schneider going to go down with the s***** lineup?
  6. The lineup tonight stinks so this is not that surprising but would suck to waste this start by Kikuchi.
  7. "2 outs and it's up to Varsho" are not words you want to hear on a Blue Jays broadcast in 2023.
  8. Yeah, Varsho and KK in the same OF doesn't make sense. They had no choice but to make it work this season since they acquired Varsho after already signing KK. I can't imagine they want to have that configuration beyond this season, at least I hope not. Move Varsho to CF, hope he has a wRC+ around 90-100 (which combined with his defense/base running would be a valuable player), and then get more offense from LF. Wouldn't shock me if they try to buy low on Tyler O'Neill, or something along those lines.
  9. I think of the 4 prospects in AAA that are near ready (or ready), the best shots at having roles on the big league club in the beginning of 2024 are probably Schneider and Horowitz. Barger has been great in July after missing time due to injury, so he might be a dark horse to win a spot for 2024, but I think both he and Orelvis start 2024 in AAA and serve as depth. We will probably see some typical Atkins trades to fill 3B and LF short term. With that said, if the Jays have a lineup in 2024 that includes Orelvis, Schneider, Horowitz, and Barger (and Tiedemann in the rotation, health permitting), and the team is still a strong playoff contender, then it would certainly be a good sign towards the "sustainable contention" model that the front office spoke about.
  10. When you feel like you have to use 6 relievers to get through 5 innings, there's a chance one of them is off, if not more. Hopefully the Jays can still pull this off.
  11. It’s going to be at least 5 relievers used tonight. Schneider probably has the biggest smile on his face right now.
  12. DeJong threw that like Kirk was running to 1st.
  13. Schneider turning into a legit 2B option for 2024 would be a huge development for this team. They have 4 holes to fill next season (2B, 3B, LF, DH). Filling at least one internally would be great.
  14. It would be his 4th game in 5 days if he came in today because he was needed in a blowout a few days ago.
  15. Schneider (John) deserves that for thinking Espinal should have been in this game to begin with.
  16. I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I'll take it.
  17. Man if you told me before the season that Vlad in August would be closer to a negative WAR than a 1 WAR, I would have laughed. Now I’m crying.
  18. Good line from Manoah, and Davis Schneider saving the offense. A nice night.
  19. Schneider starting at 2B and batting 7th tonight. Hopefully he can add a little pop to the lineup.
  20. If he starts in more than one of the three games, I’d be pleasantly surprised.
  21. Espinal was a really good defensive player but he hasn't been this season, combined with the noodle bat. DeJong is basically a better version of what we hoped Espinal would be, so having both on the roster is redundant even with Bo's injury.
  22. Not to mention getting rid of the home run jacket, not because they wanted to get more serious, but rather because they were going to stop hitting home runs. They tried to warn us.
  23. Yeah, Vlad's next two seasons are going to be expensive, and he's basically been a replacement level player this season. Hell, coming into today's game, if you combined his WAR from 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, it would still be less than Bichette's 2023 WAR alone. I know Vlad has a big name, and it wouldn't shock me if he has a 2021 type of season at least once in the next two years (likely 2025 when he has financial incentive to shape up), but you have to weigh that against the cost of his next two seasons and what they could potentially get for him combined with the fact that there's a chance that this is just what he is. With that said, I don't think there's a chance in hell the Jays, specifically Atkins, will ever trade him.
