    The only appropriate way for the 2023 Jays to make the playoffs is to have to use Gausman tomorrow, lose, but then still get into the playoffs because the Mariners or Astros lost.

    The IBB to Lowe was fine, it was the walk to Tapia was that inexcusable. I don't see the Jays scoring 4 runs here even with the ghost runner. Gotta hope the Rangers win or they will be forced to use Gausman.

    JS used Swanson against the bottom of the lineup, and bringing in Jimi to face 3-4-5. Sounds about right.

    They should use the stupid behind the catcher camera shot only when Vlad is facing Criswell. It would spare us having to see it.

    The Jays are fortunate they are only down 2-0. This could have been a lot worse. Not sure I trust Trevor Richards given how he's pitched lately but Ryu is not looking good at all.

    Ryu facing 2-3-4 in the lineup is kinda scary here. If he can get you 2 times through the order with minimal damage then take him out and count your blessings.

    The Rays are a horrible matchup for Ryu. They might need to go to the pen early.

    If the Jays win 1 more and the Astros sweep the D-Backs, then the Rangers would still get in even if they were swept as they have the tiebreaker over the Mariners. If it’s a 3 way tie in the West, and the Jays clinch the 2nd WC, then Seattle wins the West and Houston gets WC3. Still so many ways this can end up. Jays better take care of business tomorrow.

    Yeah I don't think Cash gives a s*** about this series. If they play the Jays they play the Jays, if they play someone else then that's cool too. That's their mindset. Whatever, as long as the Jays can clinch without having to use Gausman.

    I was hoping the Mariners made it over the Astros, and I guess that’s still possible (only 1 back of HOU and they own the tiebreaker) but this definitely makes it harder for the Jays to back door their way in. They’ll actually need to win games now (hate when that happens).

    Bassitt's first start of the season was horrendous (9 ER, 4 HR) but he's had a really good season after that.

    Only 2 runs being on home runs is beautiful. Would have been nice when runners were on base but baby steps.

    No doubt they are doing this because Schneider is 0 for his last 33 PA, but if they want to play the small sample size game, then Biggio in his last 30 PA has a .120 average and 41 wRC+, and that's without hitting like prime Barry Bonds for a month before that. Then there's Chapman who is 0-for-life since May and continues to play. Incredibly frustrating.

    Springer RF Belt DH Guerrero Jr. 1B Bichette SS Biggio 2B Kirk C Kiermaier CF Chapman 3B Varsho LF No Babe again tonight. JS trying to distract us from that fact by putting Chapman in the 8th spot, but no one is buying that.

    Minimum 300 PA takes that number up to 85 players! I'm mostly exaggerating with the .200 ISO part, but adding power to the lineup should be the focus. Thankfully Schneider has that profile, and Orelvis has that profile, so at least internally there are players who can add power to the lineup if/when they are given a chance to play everyday.

    Yeah they didn't intend for the offense to be like this but it's basically been this way the entire season. Completely unwatchable rooting for an offense that consistently needs 3 hits to score 1 run, and have slugs like Kirk running the bases on top of that. Although I'm sure there is someone out there who enjoys singles being hit the other way constantly and has found this season to be exciting because of it. The Jays have 4 holes to fill in the off season. One can be filled internally (Babe), but the other 3 better be filled by players with power. Minimum .200 ISO or don't go after them.

    The Jays lucked out with no big deadline pickup because Davis Schneider ended up being significantly better than anyone they realistically could have picked up. They weren’t trading for a 2 WAR in Aug/Sept deadline pickup. The Jays were in a weird position this season because they had guys in every position with no real way to clear playing time. Like they needed more offense in LF but they weren’t going to get rid of Varsho, for example. The only thing they could have done was trade guys like Chapman and Merrifield, while trying to trade for more long term options (like Burger) but that’s with the benefit of hindsight knowing how bad those two have been the last two months. They were kinda stuck hoping the existing roster started playing to their potential. Unfortunately they haven’t.

    Boring pretty much on all counts. Very reminiscent of the JP Ricciardi teams. They were usually fairly vanilla and lacked any real personality, and this team has that same type of feel to me. I mean if it leads to a playoff berth then that’s all that matters but a station to station offense focused on pitching/defense better not be the formula next season.
