  1. Yep nice deal for the Tigers, 5 years and a reasonable amount for a top of the rotation starter.
  2. Exciting run? The first time in 20+ years, how can you not blame the fans? AA already gutted the farm, the jays are all in now with no plans to rebuild. If this team had a different composition with much younger guys and had studs in the minors and we were 2-3 years from competing the fans wouldn't be as aggressive on winning now. Except, that's not the case. There's a window and it will be closing fast, then the Blue Jays will be filled with very expensive 30+ year olds on the decline. Most people will accept overpaid players in 4-5 years (perhaps a guy like Price) if it meant winning the next 1-2 years and possibly a WS. But, I don't do the accounting for Rogers, maybe it makes sense to be competitive but not win it all and save a few shekels.
  3. I think Shapiro went cheap on the rotation because he plans on bidding heavily on Maeda. There's no way he goes into the season with this starting rotation and expects to make the playoffs. Shapiro wants to gamble on Maeda and his huge upside. That's the gameplan, for sure.
  4. How was he in Seattle?
  5. At the beginning of last year, if someone would have said we'd have Estrada/Happ on the team with 70m worth of contracts, you would said they were on crack. You would have then checked them into a very expensive rehab. Well that crack dream is now a reality.
  6. That's not the problem. The problem is, it isn't good. This team finally has the offense and needed a real stud pitcher this offseason to follow stroman. Instead they added bottom of the rotation pitchers. You are trying to justify things in your head when you know they don't make sense. The Jays are all in right now, but they are cheaping out on the rotation.
  7. I'm delusional to think this team wants to sign one of the top pitchers in the FA market that we traded one of our top prospects for last season? Price has and will be one of the top pitchers in baseball for years to come, and please don't tell me this team didn't have enough money. Rogers can see what a competitive team does to attendance.
  8. Well at the beginning of the offseason, we thought maybe Price/Shark/Zimmerman, instead, we got Chavez and Happ..I bet you all didn't see that one coming!
  9. Maybe you will wake up tomorrow and it will just be a mistake and the Jays really signed Price @ 7/200...Just pray there's a typo somewhere.
  10. It's too bad Shapiro tied up money with more 'depth' when this team needed a #2 starter. There's no way they sign a top end starter now, and there were so many aces available this offseason. One of the very few where you have Price/Cueto/Greinke as FAs and all it would take is money and no top prospects to sign them.
  11. I still don't understand. What was the purpose of this if they traded for Chavez and signed Estrada. They are just adding quantity now, not quality. 3/36 for Happ? There's no way anyone can like that. The bottom of the rotation is solid, that's about it lol ..It seems like a huge waste tying up 12m into that slot in the rotation. They needed a #2 not another #4.. JA friggin happ @ 36m hahaha, that's way too funny. I miss AA
  12. I don't have confidence in any player in the years from 36-40. Yes JB can DH, but then you can't have EE and JB both be DH. I still don't think it's the smart thing to do, the team will have a lot of older guys (baseball wise). Martin, Tulo etc.. Not to mention, injuries, recovery, drop in power...That's all affected by age, I just don't see the need unless it is an incredibly team friendly deal again.
  13. I just don't understand how some people are hesitant about giving Price a contract until he's 37 but yet think giving JB a contract running through 40 years old based on the assumption they 'think' he will age well and think it's a good idea. More often than not, players decline rapidly in their mid 30s. Granted JB had a solid year last year, he can still decline next year or the year after quite a bit, plus he's going to be a DH most likely after next year. I think we need to be cautious throwing 15m+ annual contracts to players most likely to have considerable production drops and who we won't even be able to rely on to play in the field. EE I would consider an extension but I just don't see us having both EE (also a DH candidate) and JB (another DH) both here after next year.
  14. 2 all the way ...how much?
  15. Jays don't go after international guys or guys who are posted.
  16. It's not just money, you just gave up a key piece of your BP. The point is this team needs to fill holes, not create new ones.
  17. Big money can change everything real quick. Redsox have the prospects and money to quickly get better fast. NYY can never be counted out either.
  18. Not much we can complain about if he even comes close to last year's numbers. Basically we really don't have a choice either way since this team needs more of a sure thing next year to compete versus waiting for younger guys to possibly develop. We don't have time to take chances and Estrada should keep this team in ball games. Now we need to see who we can sign for the #2 spot which is more important.
  19. And I guess Simmons will never be traded..lol
  20. Even if he's not, I still think Estrada will be better than Paxton next year. So why give up a valuable CFer? You still have a huge cost savings with Pillar, right? You are just trading for the chance Paxton has upside, but he might not. This club has a tight window now, I rather go with more certainties, and we know that Estrada had a solid year for us and most likely will cost in the 12-15m range and not require trading anyone off the roster.
  21. Never. This club should resign Estrada and keep Pillar. You don't trade a 4+ war CFer for possibly a #5 starter.
  22. I just think of the Rangers in the early 2000s that had amazing hitting but no pitching. There's always a balance. We have plenty of hitting, but we need starting pitching. We had plenty of hitting this year, but we didn't win it all. A lot of things happen in the playoffs that you can't just look at numbers and projections/predictions and say this is things we'll turn out.
  23. To some posters, you just need to add WAR and it doesn't matter where it comes from lol
  24. Hard to imagine they'll ever receive a package of that caliber again for him...
  25. Because then we will all be happy when it goes up because we thought it was going down, emotional roller coaster.
