  1. I would love to gut this team, but no way Seattle does that. Dickey and Tulo have negative trade value now. You are basically trading EE to them and look what you want back lol.
  2. Except this year, we don't really have the same trade chips. This club is gutted in the minors now. I don't think the Jays will be 10+ games out by the deadline, but we will probably be in the 5-10 game range, not enough to be sellers and actually trade JB/EE and go into sell mode, but enough for Rogers to pretend like we're contenders and try to keep attendance up for the rest of the year. We've had a tough schedule so far, so we'll gain some ground when we play some weaker teams.
  3. Well, this team was built on hitting. JB was due for a decline, he's not super human, he's on the wrong side of 30. Slumps are contagious and that's what is happening. Martin's signing I never liked, JFA was insisting it was an amazing deal because Martin is a 5+ war player because of his framing. Well, he can't hit for crap and he's striking out a ton this year and has negative war. The direction of this team in the short term will depend on trading Martin/JB/EE and seeing how much salary and what kind of prospects we get back. Even Tulo needs to go, but he's a guy you probably want to trade when he starts hitting again.
  4. There's only a handful of optimistic posters who actually thought things would be different.
  5. All I know is Pillar is a champion, the guy was going to plow through everyone to protect his team mate and took on 3-4 guys there..
  6. I would add, a new RF big bat to replace JB next year.
  7. I don't know, doesn't look like he can get to anything on the outside of the plate anymore. He might just need to go on PEDs and get his swing back lol
  8. Anyone remember when JB thought he was worth 150m? lol ..
  9. If someone can find JB's bat, it might be worth 100m, because he's not going to get anywhere near it without it.
  10. They also said we should resign JB for 150m and EE for 100, but not every teenager is right all the time.
  11. Martin, Tulo, JB, EE, all have to get traded and this team needs to be rebuilt quickly. It's too bad because the Happ/Estrada signings really solidified the starting pitching.
  12. Yep. I mean, we might get 2 solid prospects + 1-2 mlb ready players for both, considering they are both FA so maybe that's on the high end, but I think it can be done. Shapiro actually has pulled off some big trades before like Colon etc..
  13. EE and JB provided full value previously on their contracts. Now, this team is taking all the risk and paying for past results which could decline drastically any year now based on both their ages. Either one is essentially a DH next year, or the year after. Unless Rogers is taking this payroll north of 150, signing either or to a massive contract would just further the hole this club is in already. No blue chip prospects, older declining players signed to massive contracts, is really not a good formula for sustained success. Getting them both traded and getting 2-3 solid prospects + 1-2 mlb ready players would be key to having this club compete for quite a while while not raising payroll. Now, if anyone has faith Rogers would love to spend 160-175 on this club, hell we could sign one and still have room to sign a #1 pitcher and a couple of solid BP arms, but that isn't happening with this ownership group.
  14. Exactly, next game Tulo and Martin will each go 3/4 and the BP won't let any inherited runners score.
  15. The Jays had a hole at catcher and he was the best catcher available, they were also in win now mode so they needed to overpay. The problem is, Martin is 33 and declining and the Jays don't seem intent on raising payroll to fix other problems. Does anyone think we'd even be able to trade him without eating 1/3 of his remaining salary? If our catcher was making 10m and we never took on Dickey, we'd actually have been able to sign a pitcher like JZimm this past year (4-0 already). If the Jays had a 175m payroll, Martin making 20m isn't a problem, but that's not the case.
  16. When you are on a limited budget, you just keep rotating s*** around and hopefully something sticks.
  17. add to the fact the hitting isn't there either
  18. how the hell did Saunders catch that with his eyes closed
  19. If he can't even stick with the Braves, there's a problem..
  20. But at the same time, they could have used their assets (prospects) to acquire another pitcher. Just because you're signed cheap, doesn't make you good. If Rogers wanted the best player available for their prospects, they need to look at quality not well he's signed cheap and can eat innings. That obviously won't win you world series as evidenced by what has happened.
  21. Except Dickey was mid 30s and a knuckleballer. It's hard to gauge how well that would have translated into fulltime AL pitching with a DH. If this was a trade for a pitcher in his prime, let's say 28 with already 4 years of proven success in the majors I think I would have been way happier. But it was for a knuckleball pitcher with limited AL exposure. That's the problem, we're not saying the idea of going after a cheap/controlled pitcher was the problem it was WHO they went after. With the package they gave up, they easily could have gotten a younger AL ace, TD/Thor were well known prospects in the game.
  22. Nah, I like Clippard, he's pretty reliable and consistent over the past couple of years. I would have dumped Revere for a prospect. Storen makes 2m more than Clippard.
  23. Still don't understand why we traded for Storen instead of signing Clippard
  24. I wouldn't touch him, he's been on fire 2 games in that spot. Although, I'd move him ahead of Goins.
