  1. Rumor has it that the Astros are in on Fernandez. Can you imagine a 1-2 of Keuchel/Fernandez, that would be sick.
  2. Ya, and he's 23 and team control to '19. But in hindsight, there are a bunch of things this team should have done differently so..
  3. Pompey/Sanchez/Osuna/Chavez/Hutch + CASH (20m) ...we can pretend
  4. We'd be saving them a huge contract mess in 3 years when Davis drops off the face of earth in terms of production
  5. He's had 2 good years, and 30 years old to start the season. Hopefully it's not us who overpays him. Projects for about 2.5 war next year lol..
  6. You can't have 2 DHs, it's one or the other.
  7. We'll have to get him to agree to a trade if we have no intention of resigning him. I have no problem trading him, just seeing him walk for nothing would be extremely unwise. Especially since we have one of the weakest farms in all of MLB.
  8. Wouldn't be surprised if our new ninja GM walked away from these meetings having traded for Jose Fernandez. Now, Stroman/Fernandez is a legit top 2.
  9. That's the risk you take in signing one of the best pitchers in baseball to a massive contract. These teams have personnel that understand the value a big name signing like David Price brings. Merchandise sales/tv revenue/competitiveness/franchise value etc..
  10. At the time, they thought they would continue their production. In hindsight, obviously it didn't turn out that way. If David Price injures his elbow and starts throwing mid 80s and then sucks, then it's not worth it. But we're assuming he stays the same David Price he's been his career then declines in production based on the age curve.
  11. David Price is worth it, that's not the question. The problem is, the Blue Jays are only committed to a 130-140m payroll, THAT'S the problem.
  12. He's 34 this season, I mean it's not horribly one sided. They signed Shields for nothing.
  13. Some team is about to massively overpay for him. Even the Zimmerman/Price deals won't look that big if a team is really going to give Samardija 100m.
  14. That was last year. In looking at the Red Sox roster and their guys who under performed are still young and have years in the majors where they were much better. XB/JB/Betts and who knows what Castillo's upside is, but it's likely better than last year. All those guys are young, not declining, with a lot of upside. Panda doesn't repeat his 2015 crappy year, I think he will show up at camp fitter and ready to play third. Hanram goes to 1B, and most likely goes back to his career hitting. Plus, that 15 win differential is when we had Price down the stretch. They have a couple of guys with issues, but we have a couple more who should decline also with age. They also have the trade pieces and younger guys to get better right away if they want. I think Boston could end up taking the division depending on what they do next but will definitely be in the hunt for first. I think our only next move is sign a mid tier reliever. We could be the team that slips to third, let's see what the Yanks do first though.
  15. Of course it does. One of our rivals just signed one of the best pitchers in baseball. They also still have Moncada in the minors.
  16. He's been 6+ war the past 2 seasons. Plus the $/war will increase with time. It's a decent deal. He is a top 5 pitcher in all of baseball, and has been for many years. I think 7 years is a lot, but that's what it takes if you want to win. Boston knows how to win.
  17. Well now that Happ is off the board, they must be going for Plan B.
  18. With the rumors of the red Sox wanting to overpay I think price gets 28 to 30. Of course I'd take Price over Zimmerman but that gives us a 160m payroll. I think the happ signing might prevent a top of the rotation starter being signed.
  19. I want the blue jays to win more than most people on these forums. Remember, MLB screwed Montreal and I was a huge fan. It would give me great pleasure to see the World series played in Canada even if it isn't my home team. I want the Jays to sign the best player, not the best value player. Sometimes signing the better player means paying a bit more, but this team is built to win in 2016. Value players only go so far. Plus Zimmerman played for Washington, remember, that team we used to have. Would have loved to see us snag him from them.
  20. Nah, my wife won't let me smoke anymore.
  21. I would still take Zimmerman @ 22m/yr any day over Happ @ 12m, and so would every other GM in mlb. I think it's a great deal for Detroit, they have him until 35.
  22. Happ takes a rotation spot. The better pitcher usually commands more money. I honestly see a higher chance Happ returns to his career numbers than Zimmerman declining by the switch to the AL. That being said, the better player is Zimmerman.
  23. They needed a nice top 3 rotation. Verlander/Sanchez/Zimmerman is quite a trio, then they can see how Norris progresses this year. Gordon alone is going to make most likely 17m+.
  24. Key word. I'll take the over on Zimmerman.
  25. I don't think it will even be close. Zimmerman will do just fine in Detroit. Happ is a #4 pitcher and he could easily go back to his career avg numbers. Zimmerman has been dominant the last 5 years, not just in 60 innings that Blue Jays fans are focusing Happ's numbers on.
