  1. Say hello to the 2021 and 2022 Toronto Blue Jays pen.
  2. I feel like its a critical change in todays game with the V and the knowledge the strike zone diagram being visible has given viewers (a good thing - I don't blame the victim here). I'm not one for the "human element" behind the plate for the glory and nostalgia of the ol' game. I'm also not one for "just give me a consistent call on a zone whatever it is". The strike zone is what it is, regardless of the umpire and ump shows. I also feel like I cant be hypocritical on the impact it will have on C pitch framers AKA using human error/bias skillfully to steal strikes that are balls or ensure borderline get called. Thats a skill that can go with the Dodo bird too as far as I'm concerned. Clear, consistent and equal/fair for both teams trumps it all.
  3. lol. I agree. My point was more about a lack of clarity and/or success in approach. The Yimi deal was just seemed like a weird outlier. Chatwood was similar but cheaper I guess. But I am glad we have Yimi. He is a pretty useful arm that makes the pen less mediocre.
  4. I don't know about that, but our pen is in deep s***. Romano is a very useful arm but inconsistent and far from shutdown stuff. So many heap praise on Shatkins for their pen approach because of reliever volatility etc. Then we spend 2/11 on Yimi. We don't seem to be developing any plus relievers with swing and miss in our system as converted starters or whatever. Its half pregnant and half assed. The pen adds for any real playoff run are going to be massive cost. Everyone is competing for same arms with the BoSox now back neck & neck with us. So we will either get a Brad Hand at the deadline etc etc or an overpriced asset now.
  5. We need more than that yup. Think about the Braves pen in the playoffs last year. Shutdown filth. In todays game its essential in the playoffs.
  6. s*** call on Reece to say the least but f*** you Reece we will take it!
  7. Yes, Romano had 0 tonight. Trying to steal strikes flipping s***** sliders and meatball fastballs. Bad base running and plate approach with a chance to go ahead two in extras didn't help. But hell we can still win this!! Lets go!
  8. He should be going back to tag and reading it. If it drops he can still be on 3B no out. OF momentum going away from 3B. Tough throw.
  9. Teo would have swung at that Gage wild pitch tonight. Alllll over it.
  10. I have no issue with first pitch swinging by Bo but last two ABs were s*** pitches to swing at. Its about selection. I'm glad he is frustrated. He should be.
  11. Keep it going Birds! Pass the baton. Vince is all over the f***ing place.
  12. Those pitches to Burger called balls were more strikes than what was called on Espy.
  13. Good approach Vlad. Just stayed on it and flipped it into the gap. Get another!!
  14. Romano has nothing tonight. 2-0 slider 18 inches off plate and no V. Cmon. Let's go!
  15. Ya. I'm not sure why Bo would wail at a pitchers pitch there. Almost got lucky. Would love to see him zone it up there.
  16. Last night before game he was talking to Bo about his elbow putting pressure on spots. Not sure if it's that.
  17. Holy f***. I never vote for all stars but after that Kirk AB with this moron of an ump I'm loading up on Kirk votes.
  18. Too bad Vlad missed 95 Center cut 3-1. That was his pitch. Good AB though.
  19. Robo umps can't come soon enough. They will have their quirks but at least they will be completely consistent and equal. That call was atrocious on Espy.
  20. He is a great pitcher. But the book on the Jays RHH big bats if you can execute is pretty simple and effective. Away away away. Occasionally in. Rinse and repeat.
  21. Hell of a gm yesterday! This is not a project year for the Jays. Optimists and pessimists on Kooch. Guys wanting to dunk on a good start or a few bad ones. He has sucked mostly(for a year now) and $32M AAV being paid to him and Ryu. We can't keep throwing a 5th out there for 2 to 4 IP when Strip is our 4th. Any way you slice it. We don't have the pen to carry that and get many W's. Keep talking his upside. He cant command the FB so his secondary stuff is meh. Improbable he is ever close to a Ray makeover V 2.0 or even Matz '21 IMO.
  22. My eternal memory/nightmare of him is him scoring from 1B on a run scoring single by Hosmer to break an 8th inning tie in 2015. I think we had a shot at the plate if we throw there. Shame. Would have been Cecil time for Hosmer if we had him.
