  1. Worst case scenario for the Braves, as they now burn all their high leverage arms, and are forced to send out Chris Sale for Game 2, who then won't be available for the Wild Card series except on short rest.
  2. Fans are so reactionary. Schwellenbach stayed in long enough to save the rest of the bullpen, got into trouble just before the fourth time through and they brought in their two best relievers who both didn't have it. Definitely no wrong moves made by Snitker. That's the way it goes sometimes.
  3. Nimmo mammoth pimp job is a gut punch for the Barves.
  4. Jose Igelsias having a dead-cat bounce career year is wild. 34 years old and out of the league last season, to becoming a hero in New York. Holy f*** the Mets are STUNTIN' ON EM right now. What an absolute collapse.
  5. This game is electric all of a sudden.
  6. Mets coming alive. Just like that it's a game again.
  7. Utter domination from Schwellenbach against the Mets. Gutsy outing to propel them into a playoff position.
  8. It's mildly pouring at Truist Park right now lol. What a shitshow.
  9. Laureano has Megill’s number today. Game 1 is starting to get out of hand for the Mets.
  10. Mets look lifeless right now. Megill hasn't been bad although the pitch count has been running high since the second inning. Also TIL Ozzie Albies is no longer a switch hitter, I know he's always been poor against RHP but didn't know they had fully pulled the plug on the experiment as of a couple of weeks ago when he came off the IL. Figures he would hit the currently go-ahead HR against a righty.
  11. A 2023 trade in which he subsequently had the worst offensive season of his career as he entered free agency where he had to settle for a pillow contract. Flawless logic.
  12. I don't think this is why they moved Adames away. Apparently he had well documented issues with the batting eye at the Trop, so he literally just couldn't hit at home. His road vs home splits were major, From 2019 to 2021 Home vs Away wRC+: 56 vs. 137 64 vs 173 100 vs 137 (was traded early in the season to Milwaukee) Since then he's consistently been better at home than on the road. The initial road numbers were probably unsustainable, but he was basically going through a Coors hangover effect in reverse. They pretty much had no choice but to move him. Here's a fangraphs article on the matter: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/willy-adames-can-see-clearly-now/ Edit: it wasn’t exactly the batter’s eye, but apparently some lights that they changed heading into the 2019 season where he started being awful at home
  13. I guess the question is, is it stupid for guys like Duran and EDLC when they succeed at it most of the time? Maybe if Vladdy had 90th percentile speed his absolutely horrendous baserunning mistakes would work a lot more often and we would think of him as an exciting runner. But then the flip side is someone like Teoscar Hernandez, consistently around the ~85th percentile in sprint speed his whole career, but sitting at a -1 in value added on the bases his entire career. Randy Arozarena is another example, in a more extreme version of a guy who is aggressive all the time but it's never worth the risk he puts himself into. You want guys like that to be aggressive, steal extra bases with their speed, as long as they have the IQ and instincts to prove it worthwhile. If it was as simple as speed covering up your deficiencies, Teoscar and Randy would be providing lots of baserunning value. Duran and ELDC combine speed, hustle, and just enough risk that it pays off for them to make "bad" baserunning decisions for most players.
  14. I don't think this is fair to either Duran or De la Cruz. Both are extremely aggressive, but you take all the good with some of the bad. A downside of being aggressive is sometimes these guys will try to force the issue to gain an extra base, which they're used to doing, and get caught looking foolish, but more often than not they'll gain you a lot of extra bases and force errors from the defense winning you runs. There's a reason they're both in the top 5 of value added via baserunning.
  15. First thing: a 20 month difference is massive lmao. If Vlad repeats 2024 for two more seasons, he'll have eclipsed Yordan's career WAR at the same age. Yordan Alvarez's contract was a pre-arb extension. He's also also a gigantic human who's already had major surgery on both knees previously. The Astros bought out 3 arb years, plus a 3 year FA deal from ages 29-31. Could he have made more money betting on his health and entering free agency following his age 28 season (next year)? Sure, but he also could have more leg injuries in the 3 seasons before that happened and his performance could have taken a hit, then you're hoping that teams bank on the health of a 6'5 behemoth that can only DH who has chronic knee issues. His extension wasn't a wtf, there was obvious risk on both sides, I'm sure both sides are happy with the guarantees they're getting out of it.
  16. Alan Roden is clearly LF Spencer Horwitz. Hopefully it’s semi passable “below average” defense rather than butcher who should DH. Not the worst outcome if he becomes like this version of Horwitz though.
  17. Meh, he’s just a guy you can plug in at pretty much any infield position to give guys days off. Been with the org forever and had a decent little year at AAA so it’s also a nice gesture to such a long tenured player. The team isn’t competing anyway, so just plug him wherever to allow yourself to rest anyone without fear of him getting injured and also feel good about yourself because you’re doing him a solid at the same time.
  18. Brent Rooker has a 168 wRC+ this season with 4.8 WAR. That's a better hitting line than Vlad (barely) and equal WAR in in about 80 PAs fewer. Guy is legitimately one of the best hitters in baseball, and the projections believe it too.
  19. It's not like he's a complete disaster out there or anything, e.g. when comparing him to someone who actually looks bad out there like Teoscar. He's 36th percentile OAA, with slightly above average range and arm strength, but his accuracy must be horrendous because the only reason he's a negative by Statcast is his arm value is a -2. Is he airmailing the cutoff throw every time and missing badly when throwing to bases or something? Seems like this has been an issue before for him, just one of those things he never really got good at and it's only gotten worse.
  20. Lmao at these dumb f***ing idiots giving a gassed Francis two outs on two pitches. On the weakest contact imaginable.
  21. Yeah definitely some conditioning work to be done in the offseason to prepare for at least a 130 IP starter's load. Since the no-no bid he's pretty much been running on fumes, decent quality pitches still but the reduced velo makes his error margin a lot higher, can't get away with as much. Have to imagine the back and forth between the rotation, long and medium length relief, has f***ed with his conditioning a bit as well. Maybe a more consistent load - ideally as a starter - shouldn't see this come up as clearly.
  22. Not as many whiffs in this one, but Bowden Francis is getting pop ups for days. Lots of awkward weak swings and guys getting under the ball when they're connecting.
  23. This lineup looks like Vlad Jr. and Springer are rehabbing in Buffalo.
  24. Don't think any of those 3 teams are looking likely to make it in as things stand. Anything could happen but it would take quite the chaotic September.
  25. It's just strange because the Giants are basically bidding against themselves in this deal. Like this is the absolute max deal that any team would be comfortable giving to Chapman, which might be generous, and they did it before the player even gets to FA to test the waters? Chapman this season has basically been his identical usual self, 110-120 wRC+, plus/plus-plus defense, slightly better baserunning than usual. That guy last offseason could only do as a good as 3/54 (with the player opt outs giving him more leverage), is he really worth 3 times that amount a year later (older) with no semblance of a talent change? What a weird contract to hand out before they reach FA.
