  1. Contracts aside does anyone actually think Escobar is better than Reyes? IMO that's crazy talk, Reyes is heads above Yunel in talent. Getting in to contract value/health definitely muddies the water but, one player is clearly superior when on the field.
  2. Really depends how much money the Jays have to work with this offseason. If there is enough for JJ + McCann I'm all for resigning JJ on a QO. If there is ~$14M total to spend this off-season it could be spent wiser than going all-in on JJ.
  3. Pretty sure failed picks are protected for two seasons. Meaning they wouldn't lose the pick as FA comp next year.
  4. !!! That's great news. A scout's gun, or in stadium?
  5. Wholeheartedly agree but saying he can't SO guys off his FB isn't a fair criticism as he can be a successful MLB pitcher just commanding the FB to both sides of the plate with an elite out pitch.
  6. Carreno was never really age appropriate for the level (23yo in A+ and 24yo in AA debut) and doesn't have as good as a fastball as Stroman but, it's a decent comparison nonetheless. I think Carreno can be a set-up man and Stroman is a couple notches ahead of him.
  7. So Stroman has fringe-plus velo, can hit both sides of the plate with his fastball, misses bats with his change-up and plus-plus slider and has decent command of it all. The biggest knock is his height and he doesn't K people with his fastball. Sounds like a back-end starter at the least to me, from what I've seen of his stuff so far I'd suggest he could become even more than that.
  8. You'd think he'd be at the top of AA's list. Multiple years of control, relatively cheap and doesn't require assets. I'd love to see both Guerrero and Gonzalez in Jays uniforms asap.
  9. Because Buxton and Polanco are even remotely on the same level.
  10. Wagner for Polanco that's exactly what I'm suggesting. This is a Pittsburgh team desperate to make the playoffs and they are no-doubt buyers for the first time in what feels like decades. Polanco is their best shot at adding a significant piece. Obviously the Jays aren't going to get Castellanos or Polanco for Janssen straight up but there is no reason they couldn't work out a deal.
  11. Gregory Polanco is another guy that I would target now that Grilli went down
  12. He's a good platoon player with positional versatility and speed that is a weapon on the basepaths. If a team picks him up to start they will be very disappointed (or the AAAA Astros) in his performance as an everyday player. I can see him getting a couple M pay raise to play somewhere else but, I'd like to see the Jays bring him back in the same role.
  13. Good luck to him, he'll be waiting for that opportunity for a very long time.
  14. He's not but his versatility in the OF and IF would be helpful to them. He could be used as a late innings pinch runner which they could use as well. I know Wong gets a lot of love around here but if he is much more than a 2 WAR player I will be shocked. I can't see any GM's targeting him as the centre-piece for a true difference maker as a potential difference maker is always the asking price.
  15. Both teams need a closer, K-Rod in a rental deal just got a borderline top 50 guy. I agree that Janssen 1:1 for Castellanos or Wong wont cut it but in a package that fills some holes for a contender for a few years and I could see it happening.
  16. Switched to low fat yogurt from the full fat stuff and his brain hasn't worked the same way since
  17. Been saying it for a couple weeks now but, Janssen + Oliver + for Castellanos. Something like Boni and Janssen for Wong could work as well.
  18. I'd be all for moving two of Janssen/Cecil/Delabar/Rogers. They aren't core pieces, the reliever market is flush with buyers and it would be selling from a position of depth. Obviously, AA would have to get good value back, the last thing he needs to do right now is make a bad trade.
  19. 5yrs $10M would be paying him for ~1.5WAR per season. That's not paying him like a star on the open market.
  20. A MLB ready 2B on the market and AA didn't bid? Not surprising but, definitely disappointing. AA absolutely needs to be in on Miguel Gonzalez. He isn't going to get that kind of talent without giving up prospects or a comp pick. The Jays need to make a few moves this season/off-season, AA needs to hang on to as many assets as possible if he expects to be able to put this team over the top.
  21. A big part of it is the Jays' hitters missing time to injury or under-performing.
  22. Halladay threw off a mound for the first time since his injury yesterday. http://tracking.si.com/2013/07/21/phillies-roy-halladay-bullpen-session/
  23. Thanks king. I don't have a twitter account to tweet from but I'll watch his feed for any info.
  24. I'd love a velocity update from Smoral today. Hopefully someone tweets from the game.
