And they still wouldn't have a starter for the one-game playoff since they aren't winning the division. A move for Santana would be a huge show of faith in JJ and Dickey.

Mathis and Buck both would have been upgrades on JPA.

How many rookie catchers make the league and are actually useful? Most of them need an adjustment period and really only the Posey's of the world step in right away and make a difference. Furthermore catching at the MLB level is a significant step up from anywhere else in the world. Even the greatest defensive catchers don't look like it right away. It is going to take time. The 2-3 year estimate isn't when AJ could be a bench piece, it's just the best case scenario for him to become a starting MLB catcher.

AJ Jimenez isn't MLB ready, he would be absolutely terrible at the plate. People here are confusing JPA's lack of defense and acting as if AJ is some prodigious talent he is not. He has a shot to be a decent MLB catcher, he's going to be similar to Jeff Mathis perhaps with a little more contact and he's 2-3 years away from being an everyday player. The Jays' need an immediate solution behind the plate, not some guy that is may or may not help 3 years down the road. JPA is bad but lets not pretend AJ is an actual solution at the MLB level right now or even next season.

Selling high on JPA would of been after he was the PCL MVP, selling now would be selling low. Which I'm ok with.

Because people are starting to hype him and he really isn't that good. IMO he's somewhere between Mathis on the low end and Rusell Martin-lite on the top end. He's never had a full season of at bats and he's had elbow issues since he was drafted. He is definitely a useful and valuable piece but, certainly not untouchable, d'Arnaud was and still is the much better prospect. There are 40-man roster issues it could help solve as well. Funny thing is when we did the forum consensus prospect rankings I was always the highest, or one of the highest, on AJ.

I'll rage if AA adds a rental but, he should be looking at guys with multiple years of control for this year and next. It's not like they are going to rebuild in the off-season. They are going for it.

Tabby loves fringe catchers. Part of me was happy AA moved Mathis just so he would stop talking about him.

I just think most of us hope Rogers didn't let AA spend right to the cap in one off-season. You can't build a contender in 4 months and they needed to save space to tinker and re-tool. I'm hoping this is the case but, it may not be.

If he is on the fence on waiving the NTC I'd give our good friend Halladay a call to talk some sense in to him. Lee has said that if he is moved it will be to a contender, not sure if Lee views the Jays that way but, if you look past this season which is iffy-at-best it's hard not to view them in that light.

Doesn't really excite me. I do feel AJ will be an MLB player just one that's bottom half in the league. I've said it before but, TBH now is the time to sell high on AJ.

If the Jays can't afford him that's fine, I wouldn't expect them to go after him then. If they can afford him though, why wouldn't you want Cliff Lee? I also don't think Peavy would take a lesser prospect. IMO both Lee and Peavy are going to take one of Stroman, Osuna or Sanchez teh difference would be Lee is going to take a couple more high end pieces to get it done.

That's why you would go out and get Lee, we are all aware how much he makes. Lee is a significantly better pitcher at this point in their respective careers.

If you are giving up a top prospect may as well us it to get an ace under 3 years of control and fill the gaping hole in the MIF.

Except Peavy can't even hold a candle to Lee's talent. He's getting paid like an ace because he is an ace, it's not like he is on a terrible contract. Peavy is a #2/3 and paid like it. Both will cost top prospects and it's not my money so as a fan why would I not want the best player back.

I'd love to add Iwakuma, pitchers coming from Safeco always scare me a bit but, I've seen him enough that I'm fairly confident in his stuff.

I've heard him on the Fan and Sportsnet probably 3-5 times each this year, he definitely hasn't been as out there as before but, he also hasn't been hiding. Personally, I think it's because he brought in star players, the kind of guys that steal media attention.

I agree entirely but, at the end of the day Lee is the best player. If they can afford him how could you not get excited about bringing in a top 5 pitcher in baseball? From Rogers' perspective the hype would jump right back up to preseason levels. It would make this team a lot better than any other player on the market and give them a true ace for the one-game-playoff.

He's one of my favs too, surprising it was catcher that made that error as well.

No denying Lee is the best player however, IMO Iwakuma or Peavy will provide great results while minimizing cost and payroll.

Hilarious, whoever was on first needs to give his head a shake. Sucks that it happened to the Lugnuts though. Also, that's a gorgeous stadium in Lansing.
