    When was the last time you heard someone use the word "spooky" to mean anything other than "creepy"? If there was a racist origin for the word, and it wasn't always just a homonym, it's long since fallen out of use. Hell, I'm aware of the 'offensive' definition for the word "lame", but I can't recall ever having heard anyone use it in that context outside of maybe horses?

    Smith still does have excellent MiLB numbers, outside of his 2019 that was marred by an ill advised swing change. He sucked on fire in the MLB, but nobody here (except that hong guy, probably) is going to look at a 36 PA sample size and think that means anything. I'm not saying we should go into 2022 relying on him to play all star level 3B, but I am saying that we shouldn't completely count him out.

    Semien isn't being replaced in a vacuum though, healthy season from Biggio and Springer likely cover most of the Semien losses. We don't need to find 7 WAR from new assets. Now, I want more depth, and Valera is gone (but I wanted to upgrade on him anyway) so there are still infield moves to be made, but suggesting that we're boned if we don't get another All Star calibre player isn't accurate IMO. Also, uhhh... Moreno was hit by a pitch in late June and wasn't available to be called up. He was out until late September.

    I don't think we care about words specifically as much as the context in which those words are used. I don't think it's a secret that I'm a pretty liberal dude, but I'm also 43 years old, so I don't have a problem with someone saying "that's gay" (for example), but homophobic attacks on other posters I will absolutely take issue with. I'm not banning anyone for "spooky". Or apparently "lame" is a problem now too? Yeah, f*** that noise. It's lame. And gay. Not spooky though.

    He probably earns most of that just going through arb, without having to sell out any of his free agent years. But that's more money than his great grandkids could spend in their lifetime, so at that point it's choosing security over that massive, ridiculous payday. Let's offer that same deal to Bo and Vlad!

    Unless he develops power outta nowhere he's never going to be a guy you want as your everyday 3B, but he's an excellent defender, not totally embarrassing with the bat typically, and cheap.

    N/A I think they sign a versatile, decent guy who can cover 2B/3B, but is mostly on the bench. They'll use Biggio at 2B and Espinal at 3B until one of their internal options pushes Espinal to the bench role he was designed for. Basically, I think they're going to try to upgrade on Valera for the bench piece, not on Biggio or Espinal.

    You know there was zero chance he'd take a 3 year deal? Unless it was something ludicrous like $50M/year, which no team (other than perhaps the Mets, who appear to be so desperate that they've completely forgotten what money actually is) would ever offer him. Jays probably had a 5 year offer on the table for him.

    Look dude, you're new around here, but unless you took a 25 year break from baseball and are still stuck in 1996, you should realize that pitcher wins mean precisely dick all. It's also possible that you are literally Joe Morgan, I suppose. I don't think there's an afterlife, but maybe there is one, and you're forced to act the fool on internet message boards for all eternity.

    While I love the idea of getting Vladdy some reps at third, and maybe even using him there as the primary third baseman, they have to be prepared to keep him there if they go out and sign a 1B, regardless of how he plays. I'd be a lot more comfortable trying that out if we still had Tellez on the roster, or had someone in AAA who was knocking on the door at 1B than going out and making a huge trade or a big impact signing.

    I'm always tempted to just merge whatever brain drippings he leaks out into the General Jays thread. I'll never understand why someone thinks every stray thought they have merits an entire thread.
