  1. Yeah, I MUCH prefer the idea of a tie than the ghostrunner. It DOES mean someone will have to do math though...
  2. The Yankees STILL have that stupid policy? Christ.
  3. Translation: We'll mention this PTBNL now so it doesn't look AS bad for us, but then we'll hope everyone has forgotten by the time he's announced...

  5. I don't think the "we have to beat an offer because nobody wants to come here" thing applies in this case (or possibly not at all anymore, given that the Jays are considered serious playoff contenders now). Freeman's parents are both from Ontario, and he's presumably spent a lot of time here, so it's not like he needs an incentive to come to a "foreign" country. I mean, all things being equal, I think the Jays are just as highly regarded as a destination as anywhere else in baseball right now, particularly for someone with Freeman's background.
  6. I'm pretty sure it's always said that.
  7. I suspect that the downgrade in value moving Vladdy to 3B would be more than overcome by putting Freeman at 1B. IF that's the decision that they make, I'm probably okay with that. Where I have a problem is if they expect Vladdy and Freeman to split 1B/DH duties. I'm not a big fan of limiting flexibility like that. Also, I hope this isn't some ludicrous dollar amount, while he's a great player, he's 32 AND he's positionally limited. Bottom line, he makes the team better today (or whatever, if he's actually even signed).
  8. While I agree, if you've never been to Canada, literally all the international information about the country is "it's cold and they like hockey"
  9. So... is Vladdy a 3B then? Or are we going to have an ill-advised DH/1B platoon?
  10. It's a very... delicate topic. OBVIOUSLY it's a valid baseball discussion that we should have, but it's super, super easy to go off the rails. Basically, I'm trying to err on the side of caution. There have been a few posts that I've left that I felt were RIGHT on the edge, and a couple that I've deleted that I felt were only slightly over the line. And I'm also trying to be even handed on both sides of the issue (this is an issue about which I feel strongly, so it hasn't been the easiest to be objective, but I'm trying...)
  11. Yeah, there have been a few warnings in this thread already.
  12. Sweet f***. They know he's Brad Hand, right?
  13. That is also likely. IIRC recently some dude trying to run from the cops and cross the Canadian boarder got nabbed because he wasn't vaxxed and he was detained for that... A quick duckduckgoing (I'm trying to get away from Google a bit) doesn't find anything on that, but since I can't remember the guys name or what he was wanted for my search was overbroad.
  14. My experience with border guards is that they will do whatever the f*** they feel like doing whenever the f*** they feel like doing it. There doesn't appear to be ANY oversight on those guys.
  15. I hear Brad Hand is available...
  16. Notably missing Moreno... Edit: My bad, he's on the 40 man...
  17. After J.P. Ricciardi I'm super gun shy about trading draft picks. That dude would have traded like 10 years of first round picks for some second tier DH. I'm all for trading FOR draft picks, I'm very much against trading away draft picks.
  18. I feel like that was a joke?
  19. I'd completely forgotten about Tommy Milone. Thanks for bringing back THAT painful memory...
  20. Just going to nip this in the bud right now guys... Keep it SOMEWHAT civil and ideally mostly on topic..
  21. He would be arb-elligible this season, so maybe he was looking for a bit more than min, but I can't imagine much more, given his track record wouldn't get him that much of a boost in arbitration.
  22. If you could plan on injuries before they happened this would be a lot easier. Best you can do is amass as much depth as possible. We have some guys in the minors who could absolutely step in and cover short term injuries w/o sending the whole team into the dumpster, but if we lose Vladdy and Bo or Berrios and Gausman for the year there's not much we could do from a depth perspective to cover that, not even trading for Ramirez.
  23. Wait, when did the Spanky/wamco beef start? Is this some sort of "Off Topic" thing that I'm too Baseball to understand?
  24. Shatkins have done a good enough job to earn my trust, so I'm sure you are correct.
  25. I know, it's not like Gausman pitched 192 innings with a 2.81 ERA or anything
