  1. True, but it would be cheaper and more efficient for the team to do it for them. Would also be a lot easier for in-season promotions etc if they owned places that their players used. And it would allow players to go home during the off season without being stuck in a lease.
  2. This is fine, you really don't want to go into negotiations with a player after publicly stating "we're desperate to hold on to this guy and will pay anything they ask!"
  3. Perhaps it's all voluntary? Like, it's provided if they want it? Also, wouldn't the simplest solution be to buy out a small apartment building near the stadium, or build a campus of some kind? Hell, there are always motels up for sale.
  4. The passive voice of "a domestic violence incident" is very minimizing and makes it sound like something just happened to him, rather than him being the (alleged) perpetrator of a violent crime. It's like saying Michael Vick was suspended because of a disobedient dog.
  5. I mean, that was INCREDIBLY poor phrasing, that's very much something he should be called out for.
  6. Can you imagine the backlash if he doesn't?
  7. If he manages the exact batted ball luck he had this season, it wouldn't be necessary. but a 20% drop in BABIP (grounders finding gloves, flares not dropping in etc), and suddenly he's not close to starting calibre. There's a lot more wiggle room if you can put the occasional ball over the wall.
  8. Yeah, just make sure it sticks! "On accident" is one of those things that pisses me off literally every single time I hear it, no matter who says it. Beat that out of your kids if you have to! SEVERE CHILD BEATINGS!
  9. I mean, it could just be people not knowing the language. The number of people who say "on accident", "chomping at the bit", and "bold faced lie" should show that the problem isn't PC culture run amok, it's people who simply didn't pay any attention in English class.
  10. Mississippi Mud Pie is a top-tier dessert.
  11. Pfft, if Ted Rogers was still alive, he'd have a flying penis on the launch pad next to Bezos and Branson...
  12. Which is why he's a perfect infield bench piece. I can't get past his complete lack of pop. I could very easily see Espinal pulling a Jansen for large chunks of his career, just being brutalized by BABIP because he doesn't have the strength to put anything over the walls.
  13. No thanks. I mean, for a spectacular return, sure, but otherwise, he should be kept and start here.
  14. Cre Finfrock is 100% a character from Lord Of The Rings.
  15. I'm looking for a bridge to one of our prospects, so someone who is decent, not great, but a (likely) upgrade over Espinal as the every day 3B (moving him to a UTIL role in the process). I guess the math is "is Donaldson worth $12M/year + the buyout more than what Grichuk is worth". I think he is, but I can understand disagreeing with that. Regardless, I'm not married to the idea, just think it's a possible scenario that doesn't tie up too much of the payroll that we're going to need for Vladdy/Bo eventually, and doesn't significantly block Groshans/Moreno/another prospect taking a step forward.
  16. No, obviously they don't, but the trade is predicated on them wanting to ditch Donaldson's salary. Obviously if they aren't looking to do that, there's no trade to be made there.
  17. I'm warming up to the idea of a Donaldson trade, assuming we can dump Grich's salary in the move. I'm not interested in picking up all of JD's salary at his age and likely production level, but he'd be a good fit on a reasonable length deal (with the bonus team option if he does somehow light it up again) if we're not covering the entire salary. Obviously that would require more pieces, but I can't imagine it would be anyone in our top 10.
  18. I think Biggio would be fine manning 3B as a util guy, I just don't think he's a starter there, or anywhere other than 2B. In the likely event that Semien isn't back next year, I wouldn't HATE pencilling Biggio in as the primary 2B with some flexibility to move as needed, with Espy on the bench as the infield UTIL guy; we just need a more reliable 3B starter in that scenario. I'd love it if Groshans had made the step forward to be that 3B (I honestly thought Martin would be the 3B in 2022, but I'm higher on him than most I guess...), and in a perfect world, I'd rather any 3B that we got was on a shorter-term deal in the event that Groshans really forces his way up...
  19. It's really one of the only proposed Grichuk deals that I thought was remotely plausible. Assuming they want to dump Donaldson's contract anyway.
  20. A 20 inning game that they somehow manage to both lose.
  21. Nothing will top this one for me: https://www.sportscasting.com/former-tigers-pitcher-joel-zumaya-once-missed-the-alcs-because-of-a-guitar-hero-injury/ Remember when Guitar Hero was a huge deal? When was the last time anyone played one of those games?
  22. Not physically small. Mentally and emotionally small.
  23. Take the rest of them with you, you fat load.
  24. Oh f***, who let my dad in here?
  25. This. I don't want to lock this thread 'cause it's being used, so the question is which thread do I merge it into... Offseason, or General 2021?
