  1. Not if Brandy Halladay has anything to say about it!
  2. f*** Brad Mench for Robbing Halladay of a second Cy as a Blue Jay.
  3. Whole team has excellent chemistry. From an outside observer, they all seem to really enjoy being around each other.
  4. I want Verlander, but I'm skeptical that 2/80 or 3/135 would be a wise move for any team.
  5. That's where commercials go. That's never, ever going to happen. "In between innings" isn't really the issue that's trying to be resolved.
  6. I mean, he's not wrong. Jeter wasn't even the best shortstop on the Yankees during the majority of his tenure there.
  7. IMO, the QO would have been leverage against a multi-year deal. Making it harder for other teams to sign him to give yourself an advantage. I didn't want Matz for 1, $18.4, but I would take Matz on 4, ~$50-$60M
  8. I still think Martin is going to be a super stud, but this plugs a big hole for a long term at a very reasonable price. I am pleased.
  9. Fixed salaries for players (in arb years) is something the PA would absolutely never go for. There's no reason in the world for Vladdy to make less money than Jansen next year, but that's what would happen in your scenario.
  10. If a team is fielding a team to be worse because of contract considerations, there are bigger problems than how the salary figures are calculated. A s***** inning-eating SP is (often) more valuable than an elite RP, that's literally what WAR calculates. I'm fine with the rare "FIP buster" being paid less if the trade-off is that we stop valuing saves & RBIs.
  11. "it would open up the floodgates for WAR manipulation on behalf of the clubs" What the f*** does this mean? This reads like someone who has absolutely no f***ing idea how statistics work. The ONLY drawback I can see is the 29 1/2 thing, as it will delay free agency for SOME players, but the fWAR component should effectively reward the best players. "Relievers" and "pitchers who rely on soft contact" SHOULD get paid less than ones who are, y'know, better.
  12. RIP bWAR
  13. I think you know from whence he pulled that.
  14. This will be entirely dictated by his health. If his sports hernia surgery fixed his issues, he'll be in the rotation, if he continues to be plagued by injuries, they'll probably just get what they can from him out of the pen. I really, really hope it's the former.
  15. I mean, if he's the bench guy that you move to 3B in the event of an injury, isn't that better than having him in AAA? I mean, unless you sign a better bench bat, I suppose? Espinal doesn't really "need the reps" of a young guy in AAA, he's already pretty much a finished product, so having him contributing MLB innings/abs makes more sense than getting him AAA ABs. Then we'll just have another "first man up from AAA" (Smith?) who will move to the bench role.
  16. There's nothing to get nostalgic about. Weird Al continues to be at the top of his game, as he has been for decades. He is the only "funny" musical act that manages to work, and he keeps killing it album after album! But yeah, that's a bit on brand for me, innit?
  17. An Ex and I had a running gag with that one. We had it planned out that when I died (I'm a good chunk older than her) my last word on my death bed was going to be "Supplies!"
  18. Fun fact: The VHS copy was made from red plastic. Very neat! (Obviously, I owned it...)
  19. This is perfect. No notes.
  20. They'd classify their "opener" pitchers as SP. That rule wouldn't prevent SPs from going 1-3 innings. Just means that pitcher couldn't be used later in games, but openers generally are used as openers.
  21. Is it my imagination, or does $9-10M seem pretty low for what Gray could get on the open market? I pictured him more in the ~$14-15M range.
  22. I mean, he had Brad Hand for like 3 weeks, and Roark was in worse shape than I am, so "self improvement" may not have been something he focused on all that much. Coaching plans typically need to be tailored to a player, and the player has to actually buy in to the plan. In my completely unscientific opinion, Walker's had a lot more successes than failures. Also, I give Matz the QO and use that as leverage towards a multi-year deal with a lower AAV.
