  1. The great thing about that, is instead of paying him the full bonus we can give him $100K a year for 40 years...
  2. It's 2022, just Email things back and forth until you're close enough that an in person meeting will actually be productive, and not just for show...
  3. The sound off his bat is just unreal.
  4. A jersey is all patches. That's what separates it from a button up shirt. Also, I notice that FTX logo on the umps just... all the time.
  5. I'm almost tempted to start a thread on this because there's just NO info coming out anywhere, but this should be mentioned somewhere at least...
  6. The only source I've seen for the reason is the New York Post, so I mean... grain of salt on that until a more reputable source comes along IMO. But if that's accurate, there goes the dreams of working at MLB network for literally everyone on this board!
  7. Do we actually know that Bauer is still good post sticky stuff crackdown? I mean, he's VERY public about his absolute abuse of the stuff, and most of the talk about Bauer is always about how he doesn't have the natural physical gifts (of a complete machine of a pitcher, he's still better than 99+% of the non-baseball-playing population), but succeeds anyway... I dunno, considering all the noise around him (and you can put me on team "I find his Twitter account juvenile and boring") + the likelihood that he won't be nearly as good w/o the sticky stuff and I think teams would have a hard time justifying picking him up, if he ever plays again.
  8. With all due respect, ********. I mean, are the rules of this forum "virtue signalling" or rules that we have in place because we're trying to create boundaries for posts on this board? Defining what you will and will not put up with doesn't mean you're "virtue signalling", it means that you have a clear idea of the kind of crap you won't put up with, and don't respect. Are there people who do that performatively? Of f***ing course there are, but the Jays not wanting to sign Bauer (which, y'know, they haven't actually said, so what is the "signal" there?), or getting rid of someone who wrote a gay slur in their eyeblack, or not wanting someone who beat the f*** out of their girlfriend on the team isn't some sort of show for others, it's the values that the team is trying to foster. It's creating an inclusive workspace for others on the team. It's meting out consequences for actions. This idea that people are only "good" for show is f***ing stupid.
  9. I remember when "virtue signalling" was just called "having principles".
  10. Since nobody got drunk and made this at 12:01... Discuss!
  11. Tough, but fair.
  12. World Series MVP, just to make it even more impressive...
  13. Votto is a massive risk, given that the passage of time is a thing that exists. If I'm taking on this deal, the prospects I'm sending back are more of the "oh s***, I forgot that guy existed" level.
  14. You could NOT get Pat Borders to stop playing baseball. He was playing indie ball in his late 40s, maybe early 50s IIRC...
  15. Seager could be banged up, and just tired of the grind at this point. He's made more than enough in his career to take care of his family for at least the next few generations, so a few more years of paydays might not be worth as much as time with that family.
  16. Canonically, baseball is an interesting historical footnote in the Star Trek universe... Edit: They still have space-racquetball though...
  17. Would they take Anthony Kay?
  18. I know for a long time they were looking at the old Maclean Hunter building at Yonge and the 401, but I'm fairly sure that's been turned into condos now, like every square millimetre of space in the GTA these days.
  19. Hand* Chump can't even play that game correctly.
  20. He also defrauded the state of New Hampshire out of $75M. https://www.pressherald.com/2012/11/01/rhode-island-sues-schilling-charging-fraud/ Apparently the game they released is pretty good, I have it, but I also have 800 other unplayed games on my Steam account...
  21. When I said I wanted to upgrade on Valera, this is basically the kinda upgrade I was looking for.
  22. I could be convinced on some of the 'roid guys deserving to be in there, the ones that likely make it w/o juicing, but I think Sosa isn't even in the neighbourhood of consideration for the HOF if it wasn't for the chemical assistance. Though, I will admit to being one of those people who is harsher on the 'roid guys than most around here w/r/t their HOF pedigree.
  23. Not much going on, otherwise I wouldn't bother posting this, but
  24. I really don't think this is true. Sure there are examples, but I'd bet the number of athletes who improved after getting into better shape would dwarf the number of athletes who got worse.
