  1. Honestly, Chapman finishes the offence for me (unless we can upgrade on Grichuk). I would like to see another decent util piece with options to make up for Smith being included in this (no, not you Villar), but we've got average or better players at every position now, and some of those "or better" guys are way, way, WAY better.
  2. He doesn't need to be amazing with the bat, he needs to be okay with the bat and amazing with the glove. And he has been amazing with the bat before, so it's in there somewhere (whether or not it can be found again is yet to be seen, but this isn't some Kevin Pillar situation).
  3. This doesn't block Groshans in any meaningful way. Chapman is under contract for 2 more years, Groshans probably has at least a year of MiLB work before he's ready.
  4. Escobar is 5 years older, and the difference between his and Chapmans wRC+ was 6 last year. Career wise Chapman's wRC+ is 24 higher (96 to 120). Chapman is a CONSIDERABLY better defender. This is a bad take.
  5. I'm digging the fact that Chapman is still pretty young. Though, I have to imagine that in a best-case scenario, he's only with the team for a couple of years (when one of our MiLB guys should be ready to take over...)
  6. Posted above that it won't be anyone from the MLB roster, that would exclude Pearson.
  7. I could see someone from our second tier of pitchers, Van Eyk, Robberse (though I would rather keep Sem, 'cause Dutch!) or the like.
  8. I like Smith, but I'm 100% okay with him being moved for Chapman. My butthole is clenched waiting for the rest of the return.
  9. I don't see selling low on Pearson, so unless they got full value for him, it'd be hard to see him being involved. A's have a history of taking lots of lower quality pieces, rather than a few top tier guys.
  10. Yeah, the Yankees are really dying. Damn that New York for killing the Yankees!
  11. Depending on what we give up, this is preferable to a lot of the other options.
  12. I feel like I've been a mod here longer?
  13. Seatbelts and airbags don't prevent traffic fatalities, but they limit them... And this is all I'm going to say on the subject at this point because I'm already pretty sure this is opening a can of worms that is going to result in a bunch of deleted posts :/
  14. I don't think the outdoors part is the issue, I assume it's the dugout/clubhouse. I wonder if some sort of accommodation can be made, like, maybe they have to show up at the stadium in their gear and can't go inside at all? I dunno, I'm not familiar with the specific wording of the law. Maybe I'm breaking our rules slightly by saying this, but even I don't see the value in restricting unvaccinated players from being ON the field.
  15. Well, after watching Biggio there last year, I suspect Vladdy's arm (and his trimming down substantially) would give him at least one, if not several legs up over there. Not expecting Scott Rolen over there, but I feel that Vladdy could be average (or slightly below) at 3B, and his bat will more than cover any lost value.
  16. Orioles are going to land him outta nowhere...
  17. I considered the possibility that it was snark, but I choose to take it has typed!
  18. That is a fact, I think everyone would love it if we never had to talk about this s*** again... Thanks man. I don't think my political leanings are a secret to anyone around these parts, but I'm doing my best to be even handed.
  19. I would rather see Biggio at 1B and Vladdy at 3B than the other way around if we ended up needing one of those configurations (due to off days or day to day injuries to like Bichette/Espinal)
  20. Yeah, ties suck. They just happen to suck less than giving a win to the first team who can manage to hit a single.
  21. If the games were at The Trop, sure... but in Toronto hasn't been quite as hellish.
  22. My preference (and it's not close) is to leave it as is. VERY FEW GAMES go past 9 innings, and that number drops for each additional inning. If there were like 50 18 inning games a season there's a problem that needs to be addressed, but there might be one 18 inning game every few seasons. It's like passing a specific law banning dogs from driving, I'm sure some (probably drunk/high) people have put their dogs behind the wheel before, but it's not a big enough problem to worry about.
  23. Because it is an opinion on how to handle this that many people would disagree with, and the goal of deleting potentially "political" posts is to avoid devolving into people bickering about points like that. I personally disagree with your opinion (and I chose to delete it rather than engage on the subject, but you're bringing it back up and questioning the decision so now I have to address why I believe that is a post that will not contribute to this thread in a positive way.) Generally, the rules I'm following (I cannot speak for other mods here) is "if a point/comment being made could derail the thread, it should be pruned before that derailing happens."
  24. To my knowledge, Canada never approved the J&J vaccine, but DID approve the AZ vaccine (which the US did not). I'm not sure about the ability to cross the border with each, but I imagine they would do what they could to accommodate people crossing the border for work (which would include ballplayers) if they have some form of protection I'm not deleting that post because it was an inarguable fact, not an opinion (political or otherwise). He didn't say "I agree/disagree with the stance my company is taking", which would be pushing it closer to the line. I have been deleting posts on both sides of the issue. I will continue to do so.
  25. If a team can lose a game by giving up nothing but a bloop single, does the "win" still have any actual value? Would it be better if they settled it via coin flip? Or they just set up a Foxy Boxing ring over the pitchers mound and decided the winner that way? (I like that last idea more than I like the ghostrunner, actually...) While I'd prefer that nothing changes and we just accept that a small percentage of games go over 9 innings (according to this: http://https://www.quora.com/What-percent-of-baseball-games-reach-each-inning?share=1 which I admit I haven't checked for accuracy, we're talking < 4% of games even reaching extra innings), my second choice would be the foxy boxing thing (sadly, that doesn't appear to be on the table), but my third choice would be to just call it a tie after 12 innings or something. I will amend my opinion if the ghostrunner is forced to dress as a circus clown to reflect the absolute clownshow of a rule.
