I don't think there's enough there to justify the move. It's not like we're talking a guy who was dominating the high minors and knocking on the door. We're talking 109 innings in the low minors. Yes he was very good but that doesn't mean he was necessarily destined for greatness. As good as he was, the odds are still stacked against it. That's just the reality of baseball and pitching. Knowing how much a reliever like him would cost in the open market or through a trade, it's just not worth sacrificing what he can do as a closer right now. I was in favor of transitioning him coming into this season but now that he has a second season as an excellent closer, now that we know that the bullpen isn't really a strength for this team and can't be fixed cheaply, now that there's already a full rotation in place for next year, it just seems really obvious that the die is cast.
