  1. Shame about Hendriks though. He's bounced back from his rough start and looks very Hendriks like. Ratios are only a hair worse than last year and Chavez was a bust.
  2. [h=2]Joe Biagini, the best Rule 5 pick of the year[/h]http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2016/8/28/12619456/joe-biagini-toronto-blue-jays-best-rule-5-pick?_ga=1.171913248.1636850633.1472474595
  3. Neither Dickey nor Liriano look playoff rotation worthy. It will be interesting to see what the team does. There's only enough quality pitching for a three man rotation unless Sanchez makes starts.
  4. I guess Barry forgot to make up that part of his report.
  5. For all the good feelings he inspires, Navarro is a bottom of the barrell catcher both offensively and defensively at this point in his career and he's 32 so there's probably not much of a bounceback left. That being said his comfort with the pitching staff would give him an edge for that job. I suppose be used as a bridge until McGuire is ready to join the big club.
  6. I look forward to seeing him bat cleanup.
  7. Liriano would be the long man anyways I think.
  8. I love those Ace commercials. Practically the only ones I don't hate.
  9. I just looked it up and it's pretty atrocious: 210/267/339 And yes it's a clear upgrade over Thole: 151/246/198
  10. Small upgrade and perhaps more importantly no pitcher learning curve which wouldn't have been the case with Jimenez, McGuire or an external option. Even Kratz didn't have that much familiarity with the current staff.
  11. Yeah I was wondering about that the other day. Jimenez hasn't worked with the pitchers at all and he was next on the depth chart until this happened. It never occurred to me that they would bring back Dioner.
  12. So what are the rules for playoff eligibility. Does being on the roster before September 1 suffice? If so this definitely looks like the team is preparing itself for the possibility of dropping Dickey from the rotation (I doubt that it's definitive at this point).
  13. This guy is a bit over the top with the quotes. He's also said that "Batting average is Satan." but that doesn't mean he's bad in his job. He's a bit of a pregame prep guru. Bautista, Tumbo and Goldshchmidt all rely on his teachings. His big thing is preaching the importance of watching what opposing pitchers do throughout the whole game and making observations as opposed to just focusing exclusively on your own PAs. That seems like pretty sensible thinking. You can read about it (and also get the Satan quote), here: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/45814282/steve-springer-works-with-blue-jays-minor-leaguers-on-mental-approach-to-the-game/

  15. Zaun's pretty bad too.
  16. It's true that this is RotoGraphs abut the subject matter isn't approached from a fantasy from that angle at any point. He never makes an argument that Stroman's fantasy value exceeds his real life value. He doesn't mention that his youth might make him more valuable in a dynasty league or anything like that. Even if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that because of the context, it's implied that he's only talking about fantasy, calling him the best pitcher in fantasy based on a 5 week sample isn't really more defensible than calling him the best pitcher in baseball based on that sample.
  17. He injured himself fielding in last night's game. They actually cut to it during the Jays game.
  18. One sentence in and it's already all wrong. I fully expected the author to start walking back the claim immediately. Nope he actually wants to maintain the charade for a bit.
  19. We used to squint pretty hard back in those days.
  20. Nice, I was trying to remember Scott Richmond's name last and kept thinking Scott Diamond. For some odd reason, I flashed back to the edition of the WBC where Richmond was Canada's "ace".
  21. Makes sense.
