  1. Doesn't look like there's a whole lot there offensively but the Jays could use a reserve CF. He makes sense if the defense is good.
  2. That was posted in another thread. It's a pretty depressing article. All the trade scenarios fall apart because the Jays don't really have any depth to trade from.
  3. It's pretty surprising that they haven't. I suppose they just couldn't find anything comparable to last year's Shields trade.
  4. Everything I know about Angrioter tells me you don't want a face pic.
  5. There were reports last year that the Mets were just floored by the quality of D'Arnaud's catching in his short trial last year. He probably won't need to hit to provide value although he'll be as stud if he does.
  6. Yes there are some internal replacements but it's absurd to be content with them. Sierra doesn't even have a favorable platoon split. He's pretty close to bringing nothing to the table. I much prefer Pillar but since Pillar has options, there was no reason not to get a Major League replacement and DFA Sierra and have Pillar as insurance. Hutch and Goins also have options and would also be better off in the minors. When you push the players that should be your emergency replacements onto the 25 man roster from the get-go, you're left with poor depth. That being said, this argument has been made with you countless times in the Goins thread so I doubt you'll change your tune about the validity of starting the season this way.
  7. Yeah it's not the not getting Santana part that rubs, it's the getting nothing part. It just so happens that at this point it's Santana, Capuano or bust but it didn't have to be that way. It seems like the only pitcher AA was ever in on was Brett Anderson. Everything else was little more than a vague expression of interest, no actual pursuit.
  8. That's true. Boston fans will never flat out turn on him but I suspect even they must be getting annoyed. He does this every off-season. The schtick is older than he is.
  9. The guy should really keep his mouth shut if he doesn't want to end up as the next Sammy Sosa. He need to keep his image intact so that the media looks the other way. Otherwise, he will get Bagwell'ed or even worse flat out exposed.
  10. Thanks. I was going to be a dick to Grant and make the following my signature but I had a change of heart: Perhaps I'm alone, but I find condescension more annoying than competitiveness. - Grant77
  11. Nope. They will praise his moxy and still praise him for last off-season's aggressive moves. I still think this team is seen as merely unlucky in a lot of circles. Of course, to some extent, they were unlucky last year but it's not like they fell just short because of luck. They were never in it. With better fortune, they would have made it closer but to assume they were a playoff team if not for luck is a silly notion that ignores a lot of the poor planning and the finger crossing that took place last year. Nonetheless, I think that's what a lot of people and most of the media believe.
  12. Where can I set my signature?
  13. I hear what you're saying but I'm not convinced that the whole front office is as stuborn about that as Sabean is. I highly doubt that but I do agree with you that there is more than one way to skin a cat. I used to think AA might be a good GM from a slightly older mould. AA talks a good game about scouting but the inability to recognize Bonifacio's defensive limitations (which were painfully obvious from his Marlins days for anyone paying attention) and his inability to recognize Gomes' defensive value suggests to me that the Jays aren't really that good at scouting or sabermetric evaluation. Even the draft record is spotty. They seem to have essentially conceded as far a positional prospects are concerned which is hardly reassuring.
  14. Someone in that organization knows what the f*** they're doing. They talk a lot about not valuing prospects but they sure seem to know which prospects are worth keeping.
  15. I really can't explain it any better than what I just did. Sabean isn't all bad. That team drafted really well. In a few years if AA's recent drafts yield as much, I'll give him credit for it. ( I don't expect it but it could happen). AA's early drafts were decent. A lot of it was volume of picks making up for a lot of risk but they weren't exactly bad drafts either. They yielded assetts. If this year's team makes the playoffs though, I will consider it a total fluke because it would be a small miracle to win with so little depth and no forseeable immediate help from the minors beyond Stroman and a few plugs. Maybe that's a bandwagon thought it's not like they've won the World Series or anything. They're not the best team in baseball. That would be the Cardinals. They just impress by really beating the odds with whatever success they do have. They have a plan that make them competitive against the beast of the East. They are exactly what the Jays should be. How can you not admire that?
  16. He's still capable of a shrewd move like the Kratz deal but the seeming lack of urgency with which he's acted this year is alarming. You shouldn't have to move earth and moon to put together a good bench. That should have been the bare minimum on his to do list.
  17. As you evolve as a baseball fan, it becomes tempting to root for process. If a team that does a lot that seems right (the Rays under Friedman) plays a team that you don't feel deserves to there (the Jays under Anthopoulos) in the playoffs, it's tempting to go against your heart and go with your brain. In the end I'm probably too old to go against years of built up sentiment. I'm not a young punk like BTS though, I'm more of a bitter, cynical old fart like Hurl.
  18. For awhile I thought this was Romero.
  19. I really like the Kratz aquisition. Lincoln wasn't really useful and the extra depth behind Navarro will be useful. It seems like he'll be given a chance to catch Dickey and flat out beat Thole for the backup spot which is also good news.
  20. You're such a heel. I can't blame you though and I can't say I'm not tempted to do the same.
  21. I mean honestly how long can the team go on with a GM asleep at the wheel? I could see the argument for giving him some rope otherwise but it's like he's not even trying anymore. It's pathetic. Beaston's justification for last off-season's failures, was "at least we tried" so what's the justification for this one? I mean I realize that there were some moves that didn't fall through but the fact that Toronto COULD have had Kinsler and Anderson doesn't do a whole for what Toronto DOES have which is far too many holes. The team has a couple of guys to replace JPA but no replacement for Johnson, no replacement for Bonifacio (who wasn't much of a 2B to begin with but that's a different story) and no right-handed bat to replace the two that left (Derosa and Davis). WTF?
  22. At this point if all the team did was DFA Sierra, I would consider that an improvement. Trying to find a use for him just to stave off the inevitable is going to cost some wins. A potentially useful pitcher will probably get the boot in his favour too. That simple move would seem like a watershed moment in AA's questionable m.o. That's how little I think of him right now. (Prepares for Sierra start the season hot and this post get thrown in face countless times.)
  23. God I hate AA. The way he pisses on us and tell's us is raining is just amazing. He said he would bring in two maybe three starting pitchers at the beginning of the off-season. Now the best we can hope for is that AA might make an actual offer before Santana and Capuano are gone.
