  1. Four games in and Carrera already gets a start. This is why Cecilliani should have made the 25.
  2. ARod didn't intend to injure the player. Does that make his play acceptable? I don't think anyone would argue that. And no I'm not saying the plays were identical but I am saying is that the argument only dangerous plays should be considered interference is bogus. Interference is interference.
  3. Someone posted that last night and yeah it definitely is more similar in terms of what happened on the field. The biggest difference between that and the Bautista play (and it's not a small difference) is that Wigginton did a much better job selling the interference (not necessarily on purpose mind you) and got the call from the ump directly.
  4. Risky click of the day...
  5. Even with the health issues, I prefer him to Jay Bruce but this kind of thing is a gentle reminder of why that trade was contemplated. It's not a about who's better on a per game basis. It's about total value. Now that we've seen how good Saunders looks this yeat, I'd prefer to put my money on him but there's a lot of season left. It's not a sure thing even now. Still a lot of questions left to answer. How much will Saunders play? How effectively will existing options like 'Zeke and Pompey fill any gaps left by Saunders? How much will Bruce bounce back offensively?
  6. Votto's not going to happen but the idea of adding him to this lineup...
  7. Yeah, you'd be a moron to not be at least encouraged.
  8. Yeah well that's why I used the verb "seems". In any case, Sanchez never had a start like that before. The previous ceiling on a a Sanchez start was one where he spaced out the walks and babiped his way to not giving up runs. The ceiling has moved. How consistently will he reach the ceiling he flashed last night? We still have no idea. There's plenty of tests to come, particularly against patient lineups. For all we know, this will never be repeated but Sanchez showed something last night that he had never shown before and that's obviously a good thing. Potentially, a great thing.
  9. Obviously there are differences. That doesn't meant they're not both interference. If you wan't to argue otherwise then maybe argue otherwise instead of making puerile "take my toys and go home" kind of posts.
  10. Ultimately, losing one game has less impact than suddenly gaining an effective starter which is what seems to have happened with Sanchez.
  11. It's not as flagrant but what Bautista did isn't dissimilar to A-Rod's infamous play in the playoffs. Not one ever claimed A-Rod was endangering the other player, just messing with his ability to make the play. What Bautista did was was similar except that I don't think it was pre-meditated. Just a regrettable split second reaction thing. There's really no doubt he interfered.
  12. Meanwhile, like a sucker, I have to settle for Jean Segura-lite.
  13. Yeah but there's the other rule too. The first one Hurl posted. It's a complex situation that MLB will have to do it's best to clarify.
  14. You can't overturn interference called by the ump but the ump didn't call it. What was overturned was a non-call of interference which perhaps is just fine?
  15. Um no... Just don't grab the fielder.
  16. Yeah it's not a big deal right now but in a potential post Bautista/Encarnacion world, they'll need to spread that production over multiple positions including 1B.
  17. Someone tried to take Russell's lunch again.
  18. Everything hinges on the changes Sanchez made in the off-season. It's pretty easy to put a lot of weight into something that happened "off camera" so to speak and it's usually not very wise to do so even if small sample size success in spring training provides a bit of confirmation bias. That being said, I'm not as willing to write Sanchez off as I was at this point last season. He has me curious and hedging a little bit. I'm hoping for a successful start. Of course, that one start won't be enough to confirm or infirm anything.
  19. Pillar struggling, Saunders putting on the heat. This might not last very long at all.
  20. He's one of the best hitters of all time at his position and yet whatever he contributes offensively feels like gravy. How crazy is that?
  21. Cola is a bit underrated on D and Smoak is a bit overrated. There's a difference but it's not the chasm some make it out to be.
