    It will also be less painful should the guys given up fail to pan out, which may be the case for a lot of them. Right now, it looks like AA gave up a lot of fool's gold.

    Yeah he will be the one that we miss the most for sure. Actually, he may be the only one.

    You'd think this board would be rocking with activity seeing as we're 4.5 games up in June but it seems a little stagnant lately. The majority of the posts were always negative and referred back to the 2013 offseason (and subsequently the lack of movement in the 2014 offseason). When we were losing in 2013 the negative posts just piled on and heck, all the negative posts were probably warranted. Now that posting negative when so much good is happening just doesn't fit the narrative right now, it's as if those same posters don't care to write much anymore. I hate to say it, but if the team starts losing again perhaps we'd see an increase in activity? And I'm not even talking about Rays fans, you can't really blame them for not posting a lot on a Jays board when their team is in the toilet. Just all the posts with a negative tone just don't really fit in to what's going on with the team right now and rather than post something other than what was once considered a "disastrous" 2013 offseason or Yunel Escobar or the RA Dickey trade which happened two offseasons ago the posts have just dried up. Hopefully that changes.

    I'm not sure either were epic failures. What guy that we gave up are we actually going to really miss? Someone might step up but right now you can't definitively say that we made a major screw up.

    There needs to be a "yes" option. I'd def let them back in to the fold although there needs to be some sort of apology or something.

    Redmond isn't pitching that bad though. I'd rather have him than Korecky.

    That's another good explanation. Perhaps the Jays just want to wait until after the game to send a reliever down?

    The factors you listed definitely scream of a trade. Otherwise, wouldn't they simply tell him, "Hey, you got the call."

    Tonight would be a nice bounce back win. We've got one of our backend guys going after a tough loss but we are at home and the Royals are a mediocre team. And I totally agree, our playoff chances hinge largely on the fact that no one in this division is likely to win more than 88 games or so. So we need the other AL East teams to continue to scuttle.

    Amaro is a good point although I will point out that he inherited a WS winning team and AA inherited a loser with a bad farm system. Completely different.

    So if the Jays win the AL East this season you'll still call for him to be fired before the 2015 season?

    Winning the AL East gets him off the hot seat. The team was junk when he took over and if he gets them there his tenure will be seen by many to have been a success. I think he needs to do more than that but the Free Pizza fans will be satisfied for a couple of seasons.

    Making profits off the team, as you stated, is def a big factor for them. As you said, having an owner who wants to win at all costs, or one who even doesn't mind running the team at a marginal loss each year who can easily recoup those losses when they sell the team for triple what they paid for it, is best. But Rogers overall bottom line, irrespective of whether the team is making profits or not, can play a big role as well. If their overall profits for the last quarter are bad, then it's harder for them to justify pouring more money in to the baseball team even if the team is breaking even or turning a little profit. Another good example, by Dick_Pole above, is that they recently laid off a bunch of employees. The optics of them laying off a couple of thousand people only to pour 5 million in to the team at the trade deadline looks bad. They may be willing to do that still, but the perception of their corporate culture may be difficult to do.

    I agree. We need Pillar in there to hit against lefties. Sucks to send Gose down but I'd rather have the guy who can provide platoon value over someone who would merely be a 4th OF.

    That writer brings up some good points but he only mentions the rest of the AL East in passing. That right now might be the biggest reason we contend. For all of our warts, all of the other teams have just as many and we have a leg up on all of them a 1/3 of the way through the season.

    It's not that they are cheap (although they sometimes can be) it's that they are corporate and corporate ownership comes with it's own set of pitfalls.

    I think 90 would be close to a lock. Jays are projected to win 88 right now and no other team in the East is projected higher than 82. We play .500 ball from here on out and we get to 86 wins which could very well be enough to take the AL East. We've got a looooong way to go but the first 1/3 of the season has given us a good jump on the rest of the year. http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx

    His intentional walk with a runner on first backfired as well. I still think he's the best but even the best managers make some poor decisions.
