  1. Just got caught up on the Rockies press conference. Monfort is so full of s*** lol. He said the motivation for the trade was that they were worried that Arenado would opt out at the end of the year and they would get nothing in return. But this trade is worse than nothing in return as they got a bunch of slop and had to pay $50M bucks for it. The truth is that they wanted him to opt out to save money but didn't think he would. So they did a ham-fisted salary dump and added a bunch of non-prospects that they can try and dress up to spin this trade as an actual baseball move. "We aren't cheap! We paid 50 mil to get these young studs with great futures!" It's pathetic and the Monforts are cementing themselves as the worst owners in North American sports. Sad!
  2. I know everyone is on pins and needles with regard to my dynasty league trade talks so I thought I'd provide an update. Rather than trading Adley Rutschman for pick 1.2 which would net me Martin, I traded pick 1.3 (probably Zac Veen or some other 2020 draftee) and 1.5 for 1.2 and pick 2.2. The idiots in this league think I got hosed for some reason but to me there is a pretty significant dropoff this year after Torkleson and Martin. Pick 1.5 isn't really all that much better than pick 2.2 IMO (in a 14 team league). Anyway, thanks to everyone for your advice! I appreciate it!
  3. Yeah the Porcello's may be holding out for 10M or 2 for 16M or something. Maybe they won't get it but checking the box with Cobb at 7ish is fine compared to that. Also agree about the 40 man being a factor in the Matz deal. I doubt the Angels have as big of 40 man issues as we do but dumping Jones to secure some SP depth isn't going to hurt.
  4. The trade looks awful for the Angels on first glance but Jamhai Jones really sucks. The Orioles are terrible so they'll be able to give him a free look but he's probably not any better of a lottery ticket than something from the free agent trash heap tbh. Alex Cobb sucks too but he does project well enough to be a #5 SP if you need one. There are still several backend SP options out there in FA who seemingly would command about the same amount of money. But surely the Angels have checked in on all of them and ultimately decided that Cobb at ~7M is as good of value as any of them. On another note, Atkins striking a deal early with Robbie Ray looks pretty good right now.
  5. That was my line of thinking too but it seems like most people perceive Adley to be clear cut better, thus he’s a better asset to have. Everyone in this league I’m in knows I’m a slut for Jays prospects so I get offers like this a lot. Maybe I’ll tell him to throw in as much as he can on top of Martin and I’ll end up accepting it.
  6. Adley Rutschman is a better fantasy asset than Austin Martin right?
  7. We definitely need another frontline SP IMO. That said I wouldn't hate the idea of adding another Odorizzi type and then possibly adding that frontline guy at the trade deadline.
  8. In theory they maybe could have done better but this isn’t MLB The Show, sometimes you are a little bit limited in who you can sign in FA. For example, we could sign a better SP later this offseason which could push Matz to a long relief role. A lot of one year FA SPs are going to want clear cut rotation spots. Since we traded for Matz, he doesn’t really have a choice in the matter. So getting a starting pitcher of his caliber to sign with us for that amount of money when he might just be used as a reliever might not be as easy it would seem.
  9. Yep. They know they need more starting pitching. No way they go all this way to build a contender and not finish it off without adding more starting pitching depth.
  10. From the article: That paragraph almost brings a tear to my eye.
  11. No I don't think so. Biggio is worth a lot more than Bryant due to age, control and cost and Hendricks isn't cheap. I'd rather just keep Biggio and then sign or trade for a SP on their own, perhaps even Hendricks himself.
  12. Big gains for these 5. Rolen definitely has a good shot now.
  13. Yeah Miller would be great. I think we need another lefty.
  14. Bring me Brad Miller.
  15. Yep. It's time to bring Gibby back.
  16. What difference does it make on a 1 year deal? If it actually somehow did matter, we could just backload year 2 or 3 on whatever SP we sign by a couple of mil to make it all fit. If said pitcher comes on a 1 year deal and we are that squeezed for cash (all indications seem to be that we aren't), just forego signing anymore 3 million dollar flyers for the bullpen.
  17. We've got rich owners in a big market. It's about time the Jays started swinging their dicks around by having 10 million dollar bench players.
  18. Semien at 1 year & 18M >>>> Brantley 2 years for 32M. Especially with our roster.
  19. I've seen several tweets saying he will play 2B. One can assume he'll get some games at SS as well whenever Bo isn't playing.
  20. I've been pimping on this board all offseason. 1 year 18 million is such a steal. Great job by Atkins.
  21. Who cares if he's volatile as long as we're not paying for his ceiling. It's not like his floor sucks. Instead of considering him volatile, another way to think of him is that he has a solid floor with tremendous upside. Top 3 in MVP voting in 2019.
