  1. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-new-playoff-format-would-disincentivize-competition/ This article makes a pretty good argument against the format.
  2. Kind of warming up to the idea of the higher seeds choosing who they play too. You could auto reseed each team but if you do that you might as well just let the teams pick. After all, a rotation that is really top heavy is probably a better rotation in the postseason than a deep rotation which would be better for regular season. Or perhaps the top seed has 2 lefties in their playoff rotation and they get to choose who to play instead of automatically taking on the tougher matchup. Kind of fun and creates a lot of buzz for fans and sports talk type discussion too and MLB definitely needs more of that. Plus, this gives an advantage to the higher seeds who deserve it after a grueling 162 game schedule. I just don't like the current playoff format where winning 11 games in the postseason is too much of a crapshoot.
  3. Here's the actual playoff format: Then the higher seeded teams get to pick who they play among the lower seeded teams. There's a lot to process here lol. I don't necessarily mind the expansion of teams, I think something needs to be done about the thousands of pointless games being played in August and September of every year. I also like the first round being all home games in a best of 3 series for the higher seeded team. Those teams picking who they play is a bit weird though.
  4. Valera DFAd for Solis. I take back all the nice things I said about Valera until further notice.
  5. Yeah I remember him from when he debuted against his brother at age 30. Probably not very good but his numbers appear to be halfway decent. Plus there’s no shame in the side arm game!
  6. We also signed RP Brian Moran. His minor league numbers and projections aren't bad. Could be decent.
  7. 100 percent agree. The leaf hat sucks but I bet they sell a lot of those. This is at least a better version of it.
  8. I guess I'd have to see the starter depth to know that for sure but that makes sense.
  9. Why do you think Maeda sucks so bad? He's been pretty solid as a mostly starter ever since he's been in the league. Close to 2.5 WAR a year. No way moving Graterol to the bullpen matches that.
  10. Looks like the Angels-Pederson trade has a starter going to the Angels and another prospect going to the Dodgers. The starter could be Stripling?
  11. Maeda for Graterol is interesting. I don't think it's that bad for the Twins. Maeda is a solid mid rotation starter and he's cheap. Surely that's worth a decent prospect? Seems like a floor for ceiling type of deal.
  12. After the Mike Fiers ass pic discussion I think we should defer to Boxy on this one.
  13. The flyball revolution has taken over MLB where the athletes are much stronger. Does he instruct younger hitters differently than he does a college or big league hitter? Seems like ground balls can be more effective in high school where the defenses aren't always fundamentally sound. If he does instruct younger hitters differently then at what point would he try to get them to hit more flyballs? There's a better way to word that question so feel free to tweak it but I think you know what I mean.
  14. Snitches get stitches. Alex Bregman definitely did this.
  15. Valera is good you guys are being haters. Always had good plate discipline and the Yanks fixed his swing to produce more power. Steamer doesn't hate him either and they aren't fully factoring in the skills change. He's Terminator's 2020 pick to click which means he's a lock to produce. Beating out slap hitters like Panik, Tejada and Espinal is going to be a piece of cake this spring.
  16. Thanks for all the advice the past couple weeks. I traded Blackmon for the O’Neil Cruz package and then traded for Harper. Harper’s price is nuts but at the same time the league rules make for a pretty boring auction draft devoid of talent. Got him to throw in enough money that I should be able to keep Harper through his age 30 season no problem.
  17. I totally forgot about that. I’ll try it out and see what dollar value it gives him.
  18. In a 14 team dynasty with 300 dollar salary caps, how much is a 66 dollar Bryce Harper worth? That’s 22 percent of your budget on 1 guy. He increases by 3 bucks, or 1 percent of your budget, each year too. Kind of a tough question to answer but someone wants to trade him to me for Taylor Rodgers, Khrush Davis and a pick. They might throw in some money too. Appreciate any insight!
  19. How could that possibly be? I guess being fast, fat and young is a possible combination.
  20. Top notch sports commentary from a fellow Hall of Famer
  21. That's a nice leap. Tells me Vizquel getting 52% this year will get him in.
  22. Larry Walker should throw out the first pitch on Opening Day at Coors this year and then do the first pitch in TO on Canada Day.
  23. Liberal journos taking out their frustrations on Schilling still. He's eeking up there at least. Along with Clemens and Bonds. f***ing Vizquel had a strong showing though. He probably gets in unless new blood replaces the dinosaur voters.
  24. Huge injury risk too.
