  1. I reaaaally wish that woman was still running the Marlins. Imagine what we could get from her with all of the cute slap hitting infielders we've got. Package Espinal, Biggio and Clement together and we might be able to get Jazz Chisholm off of them.
  2. Yeah that could definitely be the case as well. I just checked Zips and they project him for a .270/.311/.390 slash line and 1.1 WAR in 366 PAs. So he definitely seems like he could stick as a bench player.
  3. You did fine to add more good and bad to the list but I don't think a soundbite regarding trading Aaron Sanchez and other slop for younger slop should be considered a black mark against him lol. Let the Jays subreddit and Twitter fume over that one. They have the requisite IQs to allow something like that to actually make them mad anyway.
  4. Is there a way to adjust the games played for a steamer projection? As we all know I correctly called the Ernie Clement breakout last year. Steamer now projects him for a 93 wRC+ which will play for a UT guy that can handle 3B, SS and 2B. They also project him for 0.1 WAR in 5 games. If you extrapolate that out to 150 games that would be 3 WAR. But because 5 games is so low any sort of rounding that is being done gets magnified big time. For example, if he's actually worth .06 WAR per 5 games that's 1.8 WAR per 150 games. Either way, seems like Steamer likes him but it's hard to tell how much.
  5. Oh come on, the "42 years of control" is something normy dipshits were complaining about when they didn't think we got enough for Aaron Sanchez at the trade deadline. It then reached a fever pitch after Sanchez started a combined no hitter before making three more starts and getting hurt. Overall he gave the Astros -0.2 WAR that year. He was completely washed and we weren't going to get much for him. The esteemed members of the BJMB (the greatest Blue Jays themed message board in history) are way too smart to care about that quote.
  6. Yeah the biggest criticism is player development and that's a huge one. But I'm not sure that the book has been written yet. A couple of strong debuts from the group in AAA which includes Tiedemann (55 FV), Orelvis (50), Barger (45), Jimenez (45), Connor Cooke (40+) or Horwitz (40) and the narrative can change. There's also Zulueta (45), Palmegiani (35+) and Hayden Juenger (35+). I also am not sure that the bolded part is accurate. For anyone 40 FV and up I see five 3B (most of them seem to be multi-positional as well), a SS, a CF and a RF. There's only one LF (Roden) and one DH type (Horwitz).
  7. Horwitz isn’t mentioned in the first ten of Jays prospects either. For 2023 he was 27 on Fangraphs’ list and this year he’s 16. Not sure what he has to do with the Orioles but if he was on their team he’d be battling for big league ABs with OHearn and Mountcastle. On our team he’s not even being considered for the wide open DH job. Schneider didn’t even crack Fangraphs Top 41 Jays prospects last year. Apparently he graduated and isn’t on this year’s list either but he projects for about 2.5 WAR per 150 games. That is higher than Hiestard, Westburg and Connor Norby, all of whom are of a similar age and are top 10ish prospects for the Orioles. Things really aren’t that dire on the farm. It’s looked really grim to start the year as all of our top prospects got off to horrible starts. But they mostly rebounded and then we had a ton of non prospects turn into prospects. I agree the top end guys are weak compared to other systems but we do have some good depth and the system is climbing (and no it’s not climbing solely because other systems are dealing with graduates).
  8. Yeah they care, especially with him, but do they care as much as the Jays who sign guys in their 30s to 5 year deals? My guess is that they don't emphasize it nearly as much nor should they. And the endless resource plays a part in that as well. If the Rays 45 FV pitcher gets better results by throwing harder and throwing more sliders they will accept the risk and have him do it knowing that they have a guy waiting in the wings once his arm implodes.
  9. Yeah and his contract is also bad but he projects better, isn't coming off of offseason surgery, isn't going to have to DH a lot next year and will make about 7 mil bucks less per season. Add it all up and it's a much better contract, although still bad.
  10. Lock him up and throw away the key. This guy is done for.
  11. Machado's contract is going to get so grim. It will easily be one of the biggest albatross' in the game. He'll still produce for a few more years (or will he? going to have to DH a lot next year) but it's bound to blow up at some point. 32 AAV for the next ten years through his age 40 season. I'd rather take on any of their other contracts before his including Bogaerts, Darvish, Cronenworth, Suarez, etc.
  12. Do the Rays even care about pitcher health? My guess is they care about it less than any other org in baseball. Churn and burn. I agree that the Jays are unlikely to remain so healthy though. It's only a matter of time before some of your pitchers get hurt, even if you're the best. Though you could say that the Jays lost Ryu and Manoah (he had some sort of minor shoulder issue that had to major effectiveness issues) to injury last year.
  13. Atkins will probably make at least one impactful trade. It's hard to see what that trade will be, especially if you are trying to figure out what 3B might be available, but I'm pretty sure we'll see something.
  14. Ben Clemens thought Giolito would get 4 for 60 and the fans crowdsourced 2 for 30. So the Red Sox didn't do too bad I suppose.
  15. Is Fangraphs on Christmas break or something? Been waiting on the write up for the IKF signing and there's nothing.
  16. Yeah the two years is nice but they definitely paid a premium for the short term.
  17. This is awesome. Laila, Jim and Spanky BTFO by Gibby. Not sure how they come back from that.
  18. Small sample size last year but all of his defensive metrics were good last year and have been for a while.
  19. Tim Tebow was blacklisted because he's a born again Christian
  20. Don't listen to him, Don. I'm 100% the real McCoy. Jim here has been my wannabe rival on this board for almost two decades despite me getting the better of him every single time. It's kind of like the Harlem Globe Trotters (that's me) vs the Washington Generals (that's Jim).
  21. I'm telling you he can play league average defense, hit .220 with 15 homers in 80 games and throw up a war and a half before getting hurt and turning things over to Kinder-Falafel. And he'd only cost 5 mil bucks to do it. Do I think we should aim higher? Yes. But while I like Kinder Falafel I think we should look to get a 3B who can chip in 60-80 games 3B. Donaldson fits that bill and so does Justin Turner.
  22. Donaldson has one last ride in him. The defense is holding and the power is there. 80 games of a Yankee revenge tour in 2024 before blowing out both of his calves and retiring. I believe.
  23. Forget I said Pederson we can just use Horwitz.
  24. Let's go dumpster diving! Bring me Donaldson, Joc Pederson and Randal Grichuk on one year deals. 1. Springer 2. Bo 3. Pederson (L) 4. Vlad 5. Schneider 6. Kirk 7. Varsho (L) 8. Donaldson 9. KK (L) C- Jansen UT- Kinder-Falafel UT- Biggio (L) OF- Grichuk Getting swept in the Wild Card round will be easy to make.
