  1. Well the hell crawled up your ass today? Did you get a lump of coal yesterday?
  2. Well that's worth almost nothing because the Yankees inexplicably played him 85 games in the OF last year (where he had never logged a single inning before) and only 34 in the infield (where he's pretty darn good). That skewed his defensive numbers big time.
  3. Here you go bud. Tied with Blake Treinen for 5th. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&month=0&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&players=0&startdate=&enddate=&season1=2017&season=2021&stats=rel He might still be elite. At the very least he should still be very good.
  4. Yeah it's not ideal but maybe get a bopper at DH, a 4th OF with some pop (Duvall? Grichuk?) and then look at the trade deadline to add a star player. Also gives Barger, Orelvis and Palmegiani, all of whom are in AAA and on the cusp of the bigs, a shot to see if they can play 3B after a half season more of development.
  5. Projects to be barely worse than the Yankees and everyone is slobbing their knobs after their offseason. But yeah it still has good payroll flexibility so there is more that could be done if you desire.
  6. Yeah something like that could still happen. JDM and Pederson are pretty similar anyway. And I think an IKF signing wouldn't necessarily preclude bringing Chapman back but it is good insurance if we don't. Same thing for KK and signing someone like Teo.
  7. Also, don't forget that we brought back Chad Green. In the 5 seasons prior to his injury he was the 5th best reliever in baseball in terms of WAR.
  8. It isn't very sexy but with a good bench, elite defense and very good rotation and bullpen it probably gets them to the trade deadline in contention while keeping all of their prospects and having good payroll flexibility moving forward. The free agent class sucks and there just aren't many sellers right now to do a trade at a position like 3B. I think more of them will pop up come the trade deadline.
  9. RF- Springer SS- Bo DH- Joc Pederson (L) 1B- Vlad 2B- Babe Schneider LF- Varsho (L) C- Kirk CF- Kiermaier/Grichuk (L/R) 3B- IKF (If Spanky's sources are correct)
  10. That could work, especially if he plays mostly 3B which he would be projected to do. He's got about 1200 innings at 3B in his career. That's about 130 games worth, so basically what he would get if he were the mostly full time starter there. In that span, here are his defensive numbers: DRS-19 UZR-6.7 OAA- 22 RAA- 16 Those are prime Matt Chapman numbers
  11. You'd be somewhat satisfied if we traded for a HoF third baseman and then signed the top position player?
  12. Ok there's a lot of slop in this post but IKF could be a fit. And it wouldn't take 3/33 either. I think his value tanked last year because the Yankees played him mostly in the OF. His defense there was ok but his bat doesn't play there at all. Play him mostly at 3B (where he is awesome) or SS (where he ranges from great to passable depending on the metric) and I think he's a 1.5 WAR guy or so.
  13. Yeah Grichuk could be a fit while being cheap. He's kind of changed his game and I think he looks like a corner short side platoon guy this coming year. Plus, he and KK would form the greatest looking OF platoon in Major League Baseball history. I mean WOW.
  14. This matters to some degree but I think it's probably overstated. Fans often want to pencil in perfect fits everywhere but the realities of a s***** FA class are going to prevent those perfect fits from happening. Varsho still played 64 games in CF last year and that was with KK remaining almost entirely healthy and playing in 130 games. Shave that down to 100 games for KK and all of the sudden Varsho is playing 90+ in CF. So if Varsho is in LF for 80 games or so instead of CF how badly does that actually affect his value? I'm just eyeballing these numbers, mind you but the point still stands. On top of it, you need two CFers on your team anyway and this team only had one. KK's salary is low enough that if Bellinger is cheap enough (though I think that ship has now sailed) or if something else presents itself via trade they could still do it and just move KK to a more traditional 4th OF role. Or you could DH Springer more.
  15. You guys are REALLY going to hate this suggestion but how about Randall Grichuk as a KK platoon partner? He mashes lefties, both last year (155 wRC+, compared to 79 vs RHP) and in his career (116 compared to 92 vs RHP). You could probably get him for a ham sandwich. Duvall or MAT would also be good options but they would probably be a lot more expensive.
  16. KK is good. His fWAR projections undersell him because UZR hates him. Duvall and MAT were thrown around as potential 4th OF options and KK is better than them. And yeah, KK is technically a starter but you can pencil him in for 350-400 PAs which is 4th OF playing time.
  17. Jim get your T levels checked. Very low energy thread you’ve got here.
  18. Does Fangraphs still use UZR to calculate the defense for WAR? And BR uses DRS? We all know KK is the greatest fielder since Ozzie Smith. And that’s backed up by both DRS and OAA. But UZR thinks he’s merely good Using UZR wouldn’t be the first time that Fangraphs engaged in questionable judgement. They did employ Sheryl Ring after all.
  19. Well in bWAR it wasn’t even close, Max. Plus we also got Belt with that money and then it was really a blow out in my favor. The second the ink dries on a 8/160 deal for Bellinger it becomes an albatross contract. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even like baseball. Meanwhile, KK (the greatest fielder of this century) is just sitting there waiting for a 1 year deal (he’s also the best looking player this century).
  20. I’m surprised that the Bellinger fanboys are out in full force after the shellacking I gave you all last offseason. (Kevin Kiermaier outproduced Bellinger on a dollar per WAR basis)
  21. Also takes a team out of the running for other DHs
  22. We didn’t need him but that’s about what Fangraphs thought he would get. Perhaps the rest of the DH types will follow suit.
  23. I like that plan. Just because the offense sucked last year doesn't mean we should go all in on offense and forsake defense. The offense is going to rebound basically with regression alone. Maintaining the defense in the OF makes sense to me. There is way more value there than in signing an offensive guy. And a guy like Duval can add some homers as a 4th OF without sacrificing defense too. Use the DH spot to add a bat. I would add Joc Pederson to your list and I think he might be available on a 1 year deal. Still no idea what to do at 3B. But I think maintaining payroll flexibility would be wise. We can add a salary at the trade deadline or throw some money around next year. Kim or Bregman would be great targets for us.
  24. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/dying-orangutan It's how I felt after I got off the Ohtani to the Jays rollercoaster.
