  1. We've been beaten worse than 7-2 this year but that was by far the biggest beatdown we have received so far lol It seemed like they had more hard hit balls in that 1 game than we have had all season
  2. I hear ya. I certainly wouldn't bet on them right now either. But I wouldn't have bet on Gabriel Moreno, a 160 pound slap hitter, launching bombs off of Corbin Burnes, Clayton Kershaw, Lance Lynn (ok that one I can see) and Jordan Montgomery either. But he did. And the Jays had a better offense then the D-Bags last year by far.
  3. So all you need is 5 or 6 guys to be dangerous? Seems accurate enough. It could be a guy with great prospect pedigree who shits the bed shortly after (Carroll) or a slap hitting Catcher who somehow starts hitting home runs for what is the first and maybe last time in his career (Moreno). Just get 5 or 6 guys to play hot at the right time and you're dangerous.
  4. This is getting stupid so feel free to have the last word but you just talk completely out of your butt lol If the D-Bags had "frontline real deal talent" to legitimately get them to the WS last year, then why is that "frontline real deal talent" producing a 27-32 record right now? It's basically the same team with a few pieces added. It's because they were never that good to begin with and merely getting into the playoffs gives you a shot to advance no matter who you are.
  5. They aren't a very good team. I know you can't admit it because you went all in on this theory that the playoffs don't involve luck/randomness/hot streaks or whatever you want to call it but it was obvious that they were getting some extremely fortunate play (Moreno has 9 career homers in over 600 plate appearances, he had 4 in 63 ABs last year, for example) from guys that were unlikely to do so. And if you admit that they suck (and frankly they are probably one of the worst teams to ever make the playoffs) then you have to admit that the Jays could make a run as WC3 which would prove your arguments over the past few months wrong. If we continue to suck ass at the ASB, which is certainly possible, then we should sell. Not sure what opportunity costs I'm missing out on by not throwing in the towel now.
  6. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/?date=2023-06-02 Standings this time last year. Phillies were 7 games under .500. They ended up winning 90 games and a WC spot. They finished the year one game away from making the WS. Yankees were 9 games over .500 and didn't even make the playoffs. Rays looked like they might put together an all-time great season and faded in the WC round. It's a long season is my point.
  7. Well let's see where we are at the ASB. It's too early to throw in the towel with definitive statements like that. A good June and this team could be in the lead for a WC spot. If we continue to suck, then it will be time for a rebuild/re-tool. Plus, you STILL seem to think that mediocre WC teams can't go on playoff runs. You tried telling me the D-Backs were some sort of special 84-win team last year. After their horrible start this year it's obvious that nothing is great about them, they just got lucky. If you get in you can go on a run with a little bit of luck. The team that won it all was a 90-win Wild Card team who is under .500 this year. They weren't anything special either they just got hot at the right time.
  8. There's no way all those AL Central teams finish with 90+ wins. The Rangers, despite the playoff run last year, are about neck and neck with us the past couple of years. The Astros are behind us but any miraculous run from them knocks the Rangers and the Mariners back. The Rays and Red Sox don't seem that great either. Seems like 86 wins could be enough for WC3 this year. One good month and a couple of .500 months and we are there.
  9. Yep, and it's the same reason why he will back Schneider to the end. Can him and you're admitting that it's over.
  10. That was an ugly series win but I'll take it
  11. He seems safe but I doubt MLB has the courage to overturn it
  12. The twists and turns of Vlad's career are a sight to behold From a fat power hitting 1B to a slick fielding corner infielder and slap hitter with above average run speed
  13. Green got 5 swings and misses in that inning
  14. Seems like it was wise to wait. Vlad looks to be settling in as a 3-4 WAR guy, not the perennial MVP candidate we all thought he might become after the 2021 season. Same with Bo. Also, after last offseason the market seems to have crashed some for players. We might get them on good deals still.
  15. Come on Green, get it together
  16. Well that's an odd criticism Extend them years ago and we'd have paid a premium for what we thought were young superstars Seems like they've revealed their warts moreso now than they ever have
  17. Feeling really good about my Danny Burgers City Connect purchase right now
  18. Pittsburgh: The bright yellow doesn't do it for me. As for the PGH, it's like someone just took the airport code (even though it's not the airport code) and slapped it in oversized font on the front. St. Louis: The fonts don't work. "The Lou" is slang but it's still in that classic font so it clashes. The font on the hat is a different font than what's written on the jerseys so that clashes too. Then you have two different references to the city of St. Louis (The Lou and STL) so nothing about it is consistent. It's just a really messy version of what they already wear. Baltimore: All black with an ominous BALTIMORE in white. It's just so incredibly basic that you could design it in Microsoft Word. I know they added some color to the inside of it but it's just not enough. ChiSox: Generally, with baseball unis it seems like pinstripes are used with a white base color. When it's black with white pin stripes it looks like a cheap mob lawyers' suit and not a baseball uniform. Then they just jumble "South Side" into "Southside", make the first S gigantic and then cram the rest of letters onto the front of the jersey. The S is massive and the rest of the letters are tiny so it just doesn't look symmetrical at all.
  19. I agree. Pearson's underyling stats aren't bad and he throws 98. Pop looks decent as a one-pitch worm burner. Mayza has been getting it done but he is failing the eye test bad but he apparently can't be optioned without his consent anymore. Genesis has sucked his entire career so he's the guy I think.
  20. Apparently Francis is in the clubhouse too. He just threw 3+ innings in Buffalo so no point in adding him just yet but he could be ready as soon as tomorrow. Not sure who they will option for him. Genesis would get my vote. They could throw Burr a couple of innings and then option him too. Pop and Pearson are possibilities and I suppose Mayza could get the Swanson treatment.
  21. So there's a couple of factors that go in to grading these I think. First is that they should look good. Second, is that these are City Connect-themed so they need to genuinely tie in to the city. Some of these cities are real shitholes so it's going to be tough for them. But here's how I would group them: Genuinely unpleasant to look at: Phillies, Pirates, Cardinals, Red Sox Bad and failed the assignmentt: Orioles (city is a shithole so they were fighting an uphill battle from the start), Giants, Dodgers (so lazy) Bad but at least understood the assignment: Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Tigers, Mets Mid bc of looks or city connection: Guardians, D-Bags, Reds, Mariners, Rangers, Rockies, Astros, Marlins, Brewers, Royals Decent but pointless: Braves, Angels Look decent or better AND passed the city connection assignment: Jays, Padres, Rays, Nats
  22. Bassit summing it up well: "I think we did a good job compared to a lot of teams, I’ll tell you that.” https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/news/toronto-blue-jays-unveil-city-connect-uniforms
  23. Yeah it seems like he has had a true talent change via this cutter. His numbers have improved greatly this year and he projects well. Hopefully they call him up soon.
  24. They all pretty much suck so maybe I'm subconsciously grading on a curve but I do like them. I can't think of any city connects that would rank higher for me off the top of my head.
