  1. "But I thought" is a meme at this point because the Debbie Downers use it on a daily basis to create their strawmen arguments.
  2. Yeah that makes sense. I think Horwitz and Schneider could be pretty good players. I would pencil them in as starters moving forward though it's possible they could still flop (especially Horwitz). Barger, Jimenez and Roden seems like platoon or bench guys. If Jimenez is a wizard with the glove he could possibly be a starter. Roden could possibly be a starter. Barger has physical tools but he seems more like a bench player to me. He looks like a very stiff athlete out there. Kind of like a poor man's Tyler O'neill.
  3. Yeah none of these guys are sure things to be 3 WAR players by any means. Among the other upper minors guys we have, Phil Clarke projects for 2 WAR (but he's a C so who knows), Roden projects for 1.7, Kasevich projects for 1.7 and Jimenez for 1.7.
  4. Yeah I'd just keep Trout.
  5. Former Vandy grad Phil Clarke could be a good backup C. He's old (26) and has no power but he bats lefty and runs elite BB and K rates. Was recently called up to Buffalo and his bat projects okay. Does anyone have a scouting report on his defense?
  6. But I thought AA was the greatest GM since Branch Rickey? And I thought Atkins was a worse GM than the head of the Rogers Centre ground crew? Surely the Braves should be better than just 3 wins than the Jays if that were the case?
  7. In addition to Schneider and Horwitz, Otto Lopez has a Steamer600 of 3.0 now. I blame the Biggio family for losing him. But yeah, maybe these Buffalo bums are actually good?
  8. Spencer Horwitz’s Steamer600 is 2.8 right now
  9. Swinging at strike 3 when it is right down the middle of the plate would be a good start
  10. The daily AA posts have stopped. They've turned into daily Teoscar updates.
  11. Why does every Debbie Downer on this board just automatically assume that pessimism = “being realistic”? You can’t even have a conversation with The Masturbator because this logical fallacy is so deeply rooted in his brain that no matter what numbers, stats, facts and logic you present him he just dismisses it outright as frivolous pie in the sky thinking. And that’s not to say that being pessimistic is the wrong take. This team can be downright painful to watch and there are plenty of solid arguments to make for why this team will continue to suck. But being optimistic doesn’t necessarily make someone wrong nor does pessimism automatically make someone “realistic”.
  12. It doesn't matter, you'll be logging on to bitch about something all the same
  13. Part of the problem is that the players are, for the most part, slowly turning it around but fan patience and reaction naturally lags behind. The rolling xwOBA on Springer and his xStats in general are both fairly encouraging. That's not to say he's going to be a 4 WAR guy anymore but he should at least be decent. Take today, he smoked a line drive over 110 mph and it had an xBA of .890 (or something like that) but it was hit right to the SS. Then he strikes out against an effective Closer throwing 100. Look at the box score and it looks like he sucked yet again but it's not a complete picture. It's frustrating but the season is a grind. Digging yourself out of a hole, which both the players and team seem to slowly be doing, takes time. The day off followed with these 12 games against the Sox and Guardians will be pretty telling. Both of them are pretty solid teams but they aren't unbeatable. I think the Jays will play pretty well and will continue to crawl their way toward a WC spot.
  14. We have an off day tomorrow
  15. Oh yeah, the Debbie Downers love misconstruing an argument to create a strawman. There isn't a day that goes by where they don't use this one: "But I thought there was nothing we could do to improve the offense?"
  16. Yeah that was a little league first and third play They had it snuffed out but Kirk's throw was atrocious
  17. Oh for f***'s sake. I know this is what Pop does but it's annoying when all these ground balls get through.
  18. Family s*** can get messy. Could be true, could be a lie. The truth is probably in between. Regardless, the team should add Dante back to the dugout as our 9th hitting consultant. We were mashing the year he was here.
  19. So the Jays get out of some, but not all, of the salary owed to Biggio. And they get a AA lotto ticket too. The Jays have a 40-man spot to play around with as well.
  20. Imagine telling someone in the offseason that our starting 2B and leadoff hitter would be Spencer Horwitz lol
  21. Yep and those career numbers are being kept afloat with what he did in his first two years. The last 4 years he has a .678 OPS.
  22. Definitely fair to question Turner. I think they saw it like this. 3B was a huge gaping hole and there weren't many options out there other than Chapman. I don't think they fully trusted IKF so they thought they could throw spaghetti at the wall with IKF, a DH/3B who could play there for ~40 games, Biggio who had somewhat of a bounceback year and then the AAA guys like Barger and Orelvis. IKF is the real deal so it turns out it would have been better to sign a DH/LF like Pham. Especially since he's so cheap. And Turner was signed just a couple of weeks before everyone had realized that the market had cratered and every FA left was scrambling to sign anything. Turner is playing a lot better than his numbers suggest though. He won't beat Pham on a WAR per dollar basis, of course, but he might end the season with better numbers than him. Their xwOBA is nearly identical right now.
  23. Yeah and he was in the best shape of his life this past offseason. Super motivated to put 2023 behind him (and whatever other platitudes players use), I'm sure.
