  1. Didn't see the end of the game. What I did see wasn't luck with runners in scoring position. 1st inning Springer lead off double - 3 weak ground balls In particular on TV Vlad looked like he swung at a terrible pitch. Looked like he was pressing. I've gotten into a huge argument about this a few weeks ago and haven't checked the pitch tracker as to where that pitch was, but on TV it looked like he swung at a horrible pitch. Sort of tuned out after the Lourdes base running mistake and saw that Bo took strike 3 with bases loaded then slammed his bat. Seemed like another horrible at bat, not sure about the call as I wasn't paying much attention at that point then turned it off. LOL. My wife also got specific fake messages on the app and told me they won on a Vladdy 3 run homerun. Fake news. Someone else said they got a similar message, but that Bo had won it. What is up with that? Was happy and surprised for a few minutes until I checked the box score.
  2. I agree, but the Jays bullpen was mostly fine last night. 2 for 19 with runners in scoring position was a big issue. Borucki was another. Did Seattle change something with him to make him more effective? Or were the Jays just fooled by small sample size? What sequence events led to Borucki on Seattle and Romo on Jays? Atkins is the one responsible for that decision.
  3. OK. He pitched again the last couple of days. Liam Hates guns Loves pride Spoke out against Supreme court ? Does he loves boosts? ? how far away from needing Tommy John? Maybe he will be available for trade for peanuts, and no one but the most progressive country will take him due to terrible anti-American attitude (assuming he doesn't need Tommy John). (This is all baseball related as we are discussing the political and vaccine views of a relievers and families and how it pertains to where they want to play, no non-baseball related feedback please, it's just like Grants 'how will Vax requirement play out" thread**).
  4. Liam Hendricks. Super-woke form what I am hearing. Maybe LaRusso doesn't put up with that s***? Needs to be traded. blaahhh.. I guess maybe he has a fore-arm strain or something and it close to TJ time.
  5. It's going to be a real mess if Trudeau requires an up to date booster. I mean you and your wife and your 5 year old and your dog could be double vaxed and boosted, and had bad covid once, and then got the mild covid, and now thinking your pretty immune, and the 2 days off + myocarditis from a booster every 6 months isn't optimal for you... so maybe you go to San Francisco, where even those sickos aren't making you boost every 6 months. (baseball related as it pertains to the ability to attract anti-vax free agents, and even middle of the road politically free agents who only want 2 boosts, not regular boosts).
  6. Yup... Bo could easily put up a .300 30 100 season in 2023 or 24 and would be right where Wells was after Jays extended him in 2006.
  7. I think they've walked like once this road trip... This just reminds me of the 2006-2009 Jays. So many guys just up and down. I'd say Bo is reminding me of Aaron Hill. However that's too much. Hill was wacky up and down. Look at his 2009 through 2012. Fine in 2009 and 2012. A .200 hitter with no power in 2011. Bo is (shudder) more like Vernon Wells. Strikes out more but otherwise his last 2 seasons look just like a Vernon Wells 2 year run of 2006/2007 or 2003/2004.
  8. Was also fine for the Mets in September 2021. How does this happen Hello. My name is Brad Hand. I'm going to drop in for 3 weeks, blow 3 games, cost you a playoff spot then be gone, and be perfectly fine after. Thank you.
  9. Cost us the playoff spot... now is good? Driving fans to madness.
  10. Get rid of Tapia add Horwitz, play him first 40% (Vladdy rest day), dh 40%, and lf 20% of his time (which presumably is mostly against righties). Rest guys instead of DHing them, which may give them a deeper rest and improve their other performance Assuming Horwitz hit a bit, maybe .280 .350 .440 is the team better than with Tapia getting that playing time? Looks like Zips has him at .257 .338 .420, not sure if that includes this years performance, but lets be optimistic and say he hits even a tad better than that... could improve the team. Of course could improve the team by getting a different perhaps better lefty and doing the same thing (replacing Tapia).
  11. After checking his minor league numbers are very comparable to Carpenter and Lyle Overbay (with the assumption Overbay's stats were boosted by high elevation Western milb parks). All guys who got late starts on their minor league careers for some reason. Of course I don't remember the other guys who were comparable in the minors but never did anything in the majors. #statsscouting
  12. Hope not. He's older than Kirk obviously but minor league numbers are similar. Also have to consider the missing season delayed him a year... thus partly why he is doing this at 24 instead of 23. Compare him to Biggio at the same age. He hasn't tasted the majors yet (which Biggio did at 24) but much more consistent and lower strike out rate, higher average. Interested to see how it translates to the majors. Maybe he will be the next Matt Carpenter. (as a hitter) Yankees get old Matt Carpenter, Jays get a young one. That would be nice.
  13. I like this guy. Seems like a Lyle Overbay, Frank Cat type, if he can play a little second and outfield could easily get 120 platoon games and would be an improvement over Tapia, and you could keep Biggio and the DH rotations. Maybe have Biggio play a little center to make room when Springer has an off day. It's not perfect but Horwitz in there somewhere and Biggio in center is better than Tapia in center? Isn't it?
  14. Totally agree he traded Martin high. However my point was that the Red Sox got much better value with their top 5 pick then the Jays did. Could be some luck as the draft is a crap shoot. It would have been nice to see the Jays get a true top 10 prospect with the top 5 pick and have developed a different top 50 prospect for trading. Would be nice but so would lots of things. Like I said it could be luck, or it could be something lacking in the draft process, and they weren't prepared when Martin dropped and hadn't done enough research into him, to see things that other teams may have that made him drop. As a 30 year Jays fan it seems like history is repeating. Last time the Jays had a 60 something win season and top 5 pick they chose Ricky Romero over Tulu.
  15. Can't really speak for the intentions of the thread starter... seems a good place as any to vent frustrations though...
  16. Only have to make up 10 games in 10 days to get within 5 by the all star break. Go Jays!
  17. If Seattle sweeps and pull 2 games ahead Wilner - Jays still in playoff race. Bad couple weeks after that and Jays fall 5 behind Wilner - the 2015 and 2021 Jays were both in the same position on this date. Mid August Jays 10 back of Seattle and Cleveland. Wilner - Seems like most of you haven't watched baseball before. It's a game of streaks and there is still time for a good one.
  18. I recall everyone being excited about Austin Martin, but this is why anybody who is not Grant should acknowledge the Red Sox are a great, great organization. Red Sox turned one tank year and their fourth pick into Marcelo Mayer, we turned our 5th into Jose Berrios on a 130 million dollar deal. It could have been Veen. That's likely the pick a real good organization makes even if it's not the concensus (kind of like Raptors and Scottie Barnes). Red Sox - Tank, get Mayer, beat Blue Jays out of Playoff spot next near, while setting themselves up to beat Blue Jays out of play-off spot during the Mayer years, 2023-2029.
  19. 6 year contract for 45 million ? I don't know what's fair. He has 1 pre-arb and 3 arbitration left Kirk isn't a millionaire and isn't set for life yet. 6 weeks ago people didn't think Seattle would take him for Kelenic. Now he's a 6 WAR guy. Or is he? We don't know. That's why it still may be possible to get him to a team friendly deal. Jays risk Kirk might get injured or not really a 5 WAR player. Kirk risks he might be a 7 WAR player. What value reflects both those risks?
  20. Kirk should be an extension candidate too... given he signed for 30k so not like he has several million signing bonus in the bank... also has 4 years remaining after this one. So ingredients are there for a team friendly deal... though you may argue you don't want him at age 28, but that factors in too. Hard to get team friendly deal for a guy like Juan Soto, not fat, not short, 2 years remaining, and is a 5 WAR guy even hitting .220, never swings at a ball. What about a fat short version of Juan Soto who has 4 years remaining, can't do anything that is not catching, doesn't have a lot of savings, and no one is sure if he is a fat Juan Soto yet (we are sure he is fat) ? Ingredients for team friendly deal.
  21. Uncompetitive at bats = low on base percentage Teo does great hitting .290.. however isn't good hitting .260... Guys like Bautista, AA, even Vladdy are productive hitting .260. And if he isn't really a .290 hitter, or isn't a .290 hitter in his early 30s, he isn't really a middle of the order guy you can count on.
  22. Why do the Mariners have to go crazy ? They win the next series and Sunday night they are 1 game out of that playoff spot....
  23. It's a tough decision. Extend him and you get his 28-33 seasons, or something like that. What is the final version here? a .250 hitter with a .295 on base? Or a .300 hitter with a .350 on base? Big difference and the latter was there from 2019 to 2021. And he could rebound and be an even better hitter age 25-29. I guess he probably values him self as a 10 year 300 million guy, and Jays may value him as a 7 year 150 million guy or even less. I think Berrios was a 3.5 WAR guy with 1 year remaining and got 7 130. So if Bo is a 4 WAR guy with 3 years remaining what is that worth? Berrios is a risk because he is a pitcher and they implode (which he is doing). Bo is a risk because he swings at everything.
  24. I agree. I think they are being too fancy with Biggio and Tapia and Kirk. Play the guys who get on base 100+ points more than the other guy. If Biggio struggles with more playing time or an increased role then adjust.
  25. I mean could you imagine Biggio playing in his fathers time? Not a lot of shifting. Cutting edge for a front office was playing the on base percentage guy over the Tapia guy, not much data or loud mouths telling you who could hit the high 99 mph fastballs and not a lot of them anyway.
