  1. That's Jose I guess. It's just like calling out the leftie rookie before game 5 of the ALCS. An unnecessary move, and he ended looking bad for it.
  2. Still doesn't make sense. Bottom of the 9th on the road game on the line... guy coming home. He's going to throw as hard as he can in that situation too. I just think this would of happened anyway.
  3. I honestly don't understand this. Why would a throw to first blow out his arm more than a throw to third or home?? I have to think his arm probably had some pre-existing damage and would of gone anyway in the near future, another time he made another hard throw, to third or home.
  4. bumping this classic to make sure everyone reads it
  5. Classic. A moment that should be honored forever.
  6. Perhaps. My own experience is in medical data analysis. I've been told the same problems are in every field. It is called "p-hacking" a.k.a. cherry picking. Researchers retroactively mine data for relationships, and end up finding patterns by random chance.
  7. One of the great ironies of Grant's life is the following: In terms of life accomplishments and demographic measures the most similar poster to Grant is: Olerud363 1. Olerud363 has an undergraduate STEM degree from a very 'prestigious' Ontario University - check 2. Olerud363 has a masters degree in a STEM discipline - check 3. Olerud363 has spent significant time in northern Ontario and even some in Sault Ste. Marie - check 4. Olerud363 has been "published" in several scientific journals - check The difference is Olerud363 is quite aware that the scientific publication process is 25% joke, 25% infomercial, 25% honest mistakes, and maybe 25% real.
  8. This is the best post that has ever been posted on BJMB Holy crap. I am often skeptical of the "smart guys". NJH is a smart guy, let there be no doubt.
  9. There is random noise around the decline. A good guess is that Jose is halfway between 2015 and 2016
  10. That's two for most out of touch. Any feedback so I can improve?? Do you mean out of touch with modern sabermetrics?? Maybe, I still like to read my late 80s early 90s Bill James books. Out of touch with politics?? I am trying to catch up, read Politco, Guardian, Drudge report and even common dreams to try and get views from every angle. Out of touch with the ordinary people?? Maybe, I have like a wife, and 2 sort of friends... work from home so don't really see people. So yeah, maybe I don't get the modern common folks.
  11. Thanks. I appreciate it. Is it possible to get a more detailed score. Here is my own personal assessment. Grammar - 3/10... there are worse, it is more of a dyslexia then ignorance (I see the mistakes afterwards) Temperament - 3/10 -- flies off the handle easily, but has been known to apologize occasionally. Conciseness - 3/10 - way to wordy (but there are worse... ie Moogie) Gets along with others - 4/10 - rubs people the wrong way occasionally but surpisingly gets a long with anyone who can admit they are wrong (ie anyone but Grant) Thanks to Thanked ratio - apr. 7/6 - a well adjusted ratio Number posts - 2000-2500, actually on the low side for someone who is so notorious.
  12. I have no problems with you these days, but those that do seem to think you are an *******, not out of touch. So yeah. 'Out of touch' doesn't make sense.
  13. Not Toronto but Ken Griffey Jr. and A-Rod were traded/left in consecutive off seasons. Then the next year, without them Seattle won 116 games, Crazy... they got Ichiro and Bret Boone, and in 2001 they were as good as prime Griffey/A-Rod
  14. I'm not sure if this is meant to be an insult, but a lot of good posters, GD, even NJH, are well read and pass on things they learn from others.
  15. Again, you are a man without logic. "Best Troll" - means a troll that is actually quite in touch, so the trolling is actually clever, makes larger points, and actually helps move conversations along, by pointing out illogical statements by others. "Best Troll" is incompatible with "Most out of touch" If you want to give me "Most out of touch", I suggest, also giving me "worst troll", and give King "Best Troll". That would make more sense.
  16. Thanks for mentioning me, you are a man without logic so I take it as a compliment.
  17. Moment of the year: When Grant bragged about winning 800 bucks by bettting on Cleveland, when the Indians were up 3-1
  18. Todd would be an awesome facebook friend. Imagine talking politics with him on facebook I told you Trump would be the winner no one cared or listened but now he is the president and if you don't have the right papers or didn't come here properly you will have to leave America.
  19. If Todd is real. maybe he is English as a second language, or something. I don't know. If he is a real guy, just deal with it. If he is not a real guy, try to get the mods to deal with it.
  20. It's a lot different switching from infield to left field than center to left/right field.
  21. I would guess that outfielders can shift around easier than infielders. Going from short to second there are new things to learn, like turning the double plays from different angles, different throws. Imagine you switched Devon Travis and Tulo. It seems obvious that Travis wouldn't make plays that Tulo can, like throwing guys out with long throws from the hole, and Tulo would have trouble with plays Travis can make, like coming in a long ways for slow grounders... at least that's how it seems to me. Switch a guy from left to right, there isn't totally new plays.
  22. Isn't the number of opportunities at each position important too?? In Centerfield there are more plays and more difficult plays. For a replacement level outfielder it wouldn't matter where you put him An above replacement outfielder should get more WAR in center, because there are more opportunities A below replacement outfielder should get less WAR in center, because there are more opportunities to be below replacement. Kind of like batting order, you want the best players to have the most chances.
  23. Also Trump is going to try and open up a lot of energy resources, this may keep the price of oil low, which, at least as I understand it, will keep Canadian dollar low.
  24. Actually stock market hasn't stabalized, it's gone up instead.... I know what you mean though.
  25. While we were at it did anybody ever call Grant out on his bet that he made on the Indians?? It was in the context of the "playoffs are a crapshoot" arguments and Grant was counting an $800 dollar pay off when Indians were up 3-1. I am guessing he said something like this. "I said the playoffs were a crapshoot, and this series proved my point. It was a complete coin flip and there was essentially no difference between the two teams, even though the cubs won more games in the regular season."
