    Tough trade question for my salary dynasty league I'm in: would you trade Ike Davis for Kelvin Herrera? Herrera's K rates and peripherals are fapworthy and he can be one of the best relievers in baseball, someday a closer.

    As much as I like Hughes, I'm sure he'd be awful pitching with the Jays. He'd get eaten alive pitching half of his games at the Rogers Centre and majority of his games against the AL East.

    Yeah I just don't see there being any FA bargains from the looks of it. I thought Hughes would have got a 1 year deal worth $7-8 million (which is still pretty pricey considering the year he just had). Didn't expect 3 years. Still, it's not a bad signing for the Twins - I think he'll be fine pitching in that ballpark. Could provide some nice value and I'd rather sign Hughes at 3/24 over Vargas at 4/32.

    I like Hughes as well. I never expected him to get three years wow. I still like the signing for the Twins. Hughes fits that ballpark well and moving to the AL central is definitely a plus. I wouldn't be shocked to see him post similar numbers to his 2012 season, or even better ones.

    The Dodgers will still be the beasts in that division. I don't see the D'Backs really doing anything or being a threat in that division. The Rockies have a great lineup, though they need more starting pitching to go along with Chacin and De La Rosa. The Giants will have strong pitching (Hudson was a great FA pickup, and Cain should rebound) though offensively they still have question marks, though I'm looking forward to seeing Belt take the next step forward. The Giants will be tough, though the Padres with some luck could be right in the thick of things come September!

    Speaking of the Padres, they could be a dark horse for next season. I think they've put together a solid rotation if it stays healthy (Johnson, Cashner, Ross, Kennedy, Stults along with some younger arms waiting in the wings like Fried, Smith, Stults, Wisler and Luebke once they get him back). They have a strong bullpen and if they add some bats this offseason, they could be in great shape. I'm calling it now - Padres nab a wildcard spot!

    There were a lot of posters on here fapping about how Dickey was an ace and one of the best pitchers in baseball last offseason.

    I think Rasmus would have to be included unfortunately if Bailey were involved, unless the Jays decided to move Bautista instead. I could see the Jays dealing Rasmus if AA knows that he doesn't want to sign an extension here.

    I'm assuming the deal would have to involve Rasmus going the other way with Bailey in the deal. I could see the Jays having talks with Rasmus about whether or not he wants to sign an extension here. If these talks already happened and Rasmus said he won't sign an extension then I could see him being moved in a deal like this. The Reds need a CF with Choo gone, and Rasmus would fit very well in that ballpark.

    I can see AA making a huge deal with the Reds. Like how he did the Marlins deal getting Reyes along with JJ, taking on MB's contract, Bonafacio etc - he tried to address multiple areas all in one trade. I think you see a huge blockbuster being made that brings Phillips, Bailey and Hanigan to Toronto.

    I know this rotation is lacking a true ace/No. 1 starter - the Jays haven't had one since Doc was here. Though in reality, I don't think the team needs to acquire a No. 1 next season to contend. In reality, the Jays aren't in any position to acquire an ace like Sale or Price and there aren't any arms out there in free agency. Really this team needs to add two No. 2/3 starters to its rotation and I think the pitching will be fine. You don't need an ace to win the World Series. Just look at Boston this past season. Their rotation just consisted of No. 2/3 types throughout - they never had an elite No. 1 guy. If the Jays could trade for a starter like Homer Bailey or Shark and sign a free agent starter as well, this rotation can be solid.

    I wouldn't be surprised. I think he'll be better than in 2013 - his strong second half was very promising. Still the high HR rates are a concern, and I doubt he reclaims any of his 2012 magic. He's not an ace. Though he's definitely capable of being a decent No. 2 starter.

    Insane? I never thought he'd come close to repeating the success he had in 2012 moving from Citi Field to the Rogers Centre and AL East. People who expected that were insane. Not saying Dickey has been a disaster - far from it. He's still a solid pitcher and has proven durable which is what I love about him. His strong second half was very promising and I expect him to provide great value over the next two seasons still. I just prefer younger arms - my own personal opinion. Samardzija is not that bad as many people are making him out to be - I find it irrational how people think he's just average. I'd feel comfortable in saying Samardzija likely would be the Jays best pitcher if they went out & acquired him.

    I never viewed Dickey's season as a disaster. I think he's a solid piece in the rotation, though he's no ace as many posters on here thought he would be after the Jays acquired him last offseason. I just prefer younger arms with upside - my own personal opinion.

    Purely on emotion? I'm a pretty logical and very rational thinker when it comes to discussing baseball. I like Dickey and don't get me wrong I still think he'll provide value over the next two seasons if healthy. He's no ace as he was advertised or what people believed last season. I view him more as a very solid No. 3, borderline No. 2 starter. I was impressed by his strong second half, so I think he's adjusted to the AL just fine. Though he's not pitching half of his games at Citi Field anymore, and that definitely showed this season with the alarming HR rate. As for Samardzjia, I prefer younger arms with upside over 40-year-olds, just my opinion. Samardzija is a very good pitcher, his stuff is electric. He did have 214 K's this season which is quite impressive and nothing to sneeze at. Taken that he's just entering his prime, and the room for potential growth I'd prefer Samardzija. That's just my opinion. I think you're irrational for saying Samardzija is just average.

    I'd take a younger arm like Samardzija over Dickey any day of the week. I didn't expect Dickey to come anywhere close to repeating his success as an NL Cy Young winner especially pitching in the AL East.

    Yeah though there is a difference when it comes to Shark and Dickey. Trading two elite prospects for a 39-year-old knuckleballer was just idiotic.

    Agreed. I had this debate with Santos last night. I said I'd rather keep Stroman since he's had success at the higher levels and is an MLB arm versus Sanchez. Stroman might not have the upside Sanchez has though I'd be comfortable to bet Stroman becomes the better pitcher at the MLB level.

    So many things can happen from now till 2018, so I would. Sanchez oozes with potential, though he's just a prospect and he's one that comes with huge risk. If Sanchez ever becomes the pitcher Shark was, I'd be more than happy - though that's far from a guarantee. Plus with the Jays window to supposedly contend over these next two seasons, I'd rather have a pitcher like Shark who is still young and who still has some potential growth over the next 2 seasons then wait on Sanchez to develop into a No. 3-4 by 2018.

    Any pitcher that is a FA in real life. So even Tanaka once he signs as well. We took over real MLB team rosters, so I completely overhauled the Blue Jays especially to get under the 100 M cap.

    That start in 2004 against Boston in late August in which he had 13 K's was a gem! He was a really underrated pitcher.

    I know Desmond and Lawrie can get very high returns that's for sure. It's a really high price for a pitcher even Jose. If it was Mike Trout, then maybe different story. Thanks for the input guys haha!
