Yeah the NBA Playoffs are a lot different than the MLB Postseason. Tough to sneak into one of the last spots and expect to go on a deep run, whereas in baseball you just need to get in and a Wildcard team can upset anyone or go far. There is a big difference between the top 3 or 4 teams in an NBA conference vs. the bottom 3 or 4. Raptors sneaking in one of the last spots doesn't do anything IMO. They'll get knocked out R1 by a top team in 4 or 5 games.
  2. Yeah one thing I didn't understand why the Jays rushed to sign Morales right away and give him three years. Tied their hands so early in the offseason when they could have been more patient for a DH/1B type bat.
  3. Yeah I didn't mind Wilner. His show was entertaining and did enjoy seeing him putting those angry callers in their place. He was condescending at times and even if you were to make a rational argument or point, he would try to still look like he was always correct. He did come off as a Blue Jays apologist at times, which is understandable working on the Fan 590. Otherwise he had a good show and did enjoy tuning in every so often.
  4. Yeah Bautista missed out big. He was asking for 5 years and $125M correct?
  5. Yeah sad they couldn't work out a deal. Edwin still was a productive hitter from 2017-2019.

Will be interesting to see who the Raptors trade before the deadline.

Yeah hope Luka and Kyrie can play well together. Should be a fun team to watch down the stretch for sure, but we always see in basketball how some star players don't play well alongside each other.
  8. Yeah one of the bad FA signings made by Shapiro/Atkins. Think they jumped the gun, outbid themselves and got scared because they were going to lose EE that offseason. There was no need to give Morales three years.
  9. Also, is there really a big difference between a .300 hitter vs. someone who hits .240-.250? It's like an extra 5 or so hits per month/per 100AB. Obviously, you want that .250 hitter contributing in other areas like getting on-base at a high clip, hit for power, good baserunner, good defensively etc.
  10. Yorvit Torrealba, Ben Francisco, Ken Macha, Pedro Swann, Bob Davis
  11. I think what you said really applies to casual fans. They're the ones mostly using Pitcher Wins, batting average and RBI as the only indicators. You might have some fans this season at the Dome or call in on Jays Talk complaining Varsho is only hitting .240 and that he's awful.
  12. Roy Halladay would have won the 2005 Cy Young if it wasn't for Kevin Mench.

    Mavericks acquire Kyrie!
  14. Yeah he had a solid tenure when he was here with the Jays from 2004-2008. Always put up solid .OBP numbers and did a great job with the pitching staff. Definitely very underrated as a player.
  15. Manoah likely is a #2/3 moving forward. Nothing wrong with that. I don't see him as a true No. 1 starter or ace. I do see him regressing a bit in 2023. Wouldn't surprise me if his ERA is in the higher 3's or low 4's. I'll make a bold prediction and say Berrios has a higher WAR in 2023. Gausman is Toronto's best pitcher.
  16. Yeah it's fun seeing a player reach a certain milestone in those stats or to put up some crazy video game numbers in certain categories when the final day of the season rolls around.
  17. Yeah exactly, in my view have to look at the whole picture. Just not one stat and think its the be-all and end-all. That includes advanced stats as well. There is nothing wrong with looking at pitcher wins when evaluating a starting pitcher. It shouldn't be the only stat to look at obviously, though it can be useful like you said. Someone like Halladay, who pitched on a .500 Blue Jays team most of the time, his pitching wins definitely help show how he was an amazing pitcher, pitching deep into games like 7 to 8 innings each time out or even throwing complete games. You don't see that anymore from arms today. Game has definitely changed where elite starters only pitch into the 6th or 7th and the bullpen closes out the game. I guess a lot of baseball nerds take issue when someone casual says "How many wins can this pitcher get?" or "He won 15 games last season, he's really good." There are people like that haha. Halladay was never a huge strikeout pitcher. Career 6.93 K/9. So if you just looked for a high K rate, you probably wouldn't think Doc was one of the best pitchers. Lets say if we compared Halladay in 2003 to lets say an arm like Spencer Strider today, I bet most would say Spencer Strider is a way better arm. But again, shows you not just to look at high K/9 as an only stat to evaluate a pitcher.
  18. Chad Kuhl to Washington on a MiLB deal. If he's fully recovered, probably wins a spot in their rotation.
  19. As of Jan 26th: Brandon Nimmo Trey Mancini David Fletcher Vinnie Pasquantino Max Stassi Nicky Lopez Dan Castano Andre Ballente Jordan Roman Matt Festa They need some pitching. Maybe Jake Ordorizzi, Adam Ottavino join haha. Lineup wise, they're not too bad. Maybe Anthony Rizzo commits again. Michael Comforto but probably not coming off his injuries. In a short tournament, anything can happen. But yah they're no DR, Venezuela, USA or Japan roster wise that's for sure.
  20. Just a reminder Italy beat Canada at the WBC in 2009.
  21. Looks like he would be a great option for AAA depth.
  22. We've had BJMB meetups before at Jays game. Got like 7 or 10 of us to show up I think two or three times which was awesome!
  23. So it's just an area for like private/group functions? Seriously?
