  1. If the Jays had Adam Lind and Aaron Hill's 2009 breakout in 2008, does the 2008 team sniff the Postseason?
  2. Giants signed reliever Luke Jackson to a 2 year/$11.5M contract.
  3. They would have acted differently at those trade deadlines for sure with an expanded Postseason. Doubt JPR would still be here though haha. I think in 2008, they could have been successful in the Postseason. Halladay and Burnett in the second half were the best #1-2 punch in baseball. Also, imagine if McGowan and Marcum stayed healthy in 2008. They had a very solid bullpen. Their offense was awful though. They needed a big bat and they never addressed that issue in April/May. They gave too many ABs to guys like Brad Wilkerson, Kevin Mench, Shannon Stewart which definitely hurt them.
  4. Yeah in the AL East and for one of the Wild Card spots, that was the case. Blue Jays in 1998 were so much fun to watch. Roger Clemens during his time with the Jays was on a whole other level. Delgado, Green, Canseco put up amazing power numbers. That lineup was awesome. Other Blue Jays teams could have had a chance like in 2003, 2006, 2008 with the expanded Postseason.
  5. Angels haven't been that successful since they won in 2002. They had some strong regular season teams but never did any damage in the Postseason. They definitely are wasting prime years on Trout and Ohtani which is sad.
  6. Yeah or even with Ichiro and King Felix. Seems like they had some decent regular seasons after 2001, though were unable to take the next step.
  7. Yeah Mariners have been pretty bad though have had several 85+ win seasons since 2001. They won 93 games in both 2002 and 2003, though missed the Postseason. With the expanded Postseason, I think some of those years they would have snagged a Wildcard. But yeah, their Postseason success has been abysmal.
  8. Yeah the shortened season definitely helped. I would have thought in 2005 their season wouldn't have been that bad. They had Dontrelle Willis who had his best season, AJ Burnett, Josh Beckett along with Carlos Delgado for one season. The Marlins are definitely an odd franchise when you look at the history.
  9. Yeah the Marlins have been one of the worst teams in baseball when you look at their regular season success, though they have two World Series (1997 and 2003) since 1993 so in their 30 years of existence. However since even 2003, the team has been not relevant at all other than grabbing a Wild Card spot in 2020. The Rays have had regular season success most years since 2008 so 10 years after they were established. However, haven't won a World Series. As a fan, would be a lot more fun watching the Rays instead of the Marlins given their consistent success mostly every season. Whereas tough being a Marlins fans for 2-3 decades, but hey they won two World Series.
  10. Pinder on a MiLB deal would be nice. A 4th outfielder like Pollock who can mash LHP would have been sweet but would have cost $7 million or more. Not sure the Jays want to fork out that cash on a 4th outfielder and go over the luxury tax. Other guys who could be had on MiLB deals include Monte Harrison.

Yeah Bills should crush the Dolphins at home next weekend.

Sucks Buffalo won't get home field throughout the Playoffs, but there isn't much you can do with the Bengals/Bills game. Was still the right call to suspend it at the time.
  13. Hutch is a nice depth signing for sure. Let's hope we don't see him make any starts at the MLB level haha, but if you need him for 2-3 starts or some washup innings out of the pen, not bad. Blue Jays should bring Daniel Norris on a MiLB contract.
  14. Yeah a team with a strong roster of young players or pitchers can definitely take the hit of losing a top FA. As long as they field an exciting roster that is competitive, fans won't care so much. Astros the last couple of years are a perfect example like you said after losing Cole, Verlander and Correa. Even the Cards after they lost Pujols as well.
  15. Yeah and also the fact the Jays are a contending team, so hopefully that draws one of them to Toronto.
  16. Yeah or if they use a 6 man rotation though doubt that. Houser isn't that good so I see him in the pen. Ashby could be a multi-inning fireman with some nice upside. He's actually a decent starter but he could be a lights out BP arm for sure.
  17. Would rather sign these guys now at the end of the offseason instead of scrambling through the season looking for a reliable starting pitcher or a competent 4th outfielder. Depth was an issue earlier last season and we saw it hurt them when they had to trot out guys like Tapia or Zimmer everyday or having to give innings to Kikuchi and other scrubs. An arm like Cueto helps more over 162 games rather than the Postseason. IMO the Jays have a solid Postseason roster with a strong front of the rotation, sound defensive teams, roster flexibility etc. Maybe just need another elite high K pen arm as icing on the cake. Otherwise, the goal should be getting this team to the Postseason, so roster depth will always be important. Hope they can be creative with the payroll situation and don't have to go over.

Raps always play well at home. Still unbelievable to make that comeback against a tough team. Maybe this lights the fire under them and they can go on a little bit a role. They have a lot of home games in January.

Gold Medal game tonight damn, gotta watch!
  20. Yeah can probably sign him to a MiLB deal. Worth the gamble for sure.
  21. Their rotation is pretty full as is - Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Lauer, Ashby, Houser. Unless one of Burnes/Woodruff are traded or an injury happens. He's fighting for that last No. 5 spot unless he's given it over Ashby. Houser should start the year in the pen.
  22. Things looked so promising regarding their position players after 2002. Hinske, Josh Phelps looked like he was going to be a stud, Orlando Hudson, Vernon Wells all having breakouts in 2002. Phelps fell off the map completely.
  23. Also, gotta figure Springer and KK will spend time on the IL this season, so why not.

Yeah the way Siakam is playing this season, he looks like a legit star or 1A type guy now. Plus his contract isn't that bad when you factor how NBA player salaries have been increasing every season. I think FVV and Trent need to be traded. We'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks if the team can get back to .500 though don't think its worth coming in 7th or 8th and getting knocked out in the first round.
