  1. I can't believe Vlad only worth one point. Awful value!
  2. Aug 3 (3:07pm) Vladdy - 1 Point - LTBF Springer - 2 Points - DeJong - 3 Points - JaysBlue Belt - 3 Points - Chapman - 3 Points - robinthicc Varsho - 4 Points - Kirk - 4 Points - JaysAllMighty Merrifield - 5 Points - mphenhef Kiermaier - 7 Points - Off the bench: 10 Points - DeJong should be worth double the points since its his Jays debut!
  3. Yeah I never said the on field product doesn't matter for Rogers. They need it to be good enough to be competitive every season. Do you think most casuals care so much if the on field product is a 100 win team or 90 win team? They still will go to the Dome on summer evenings and weekends, spend over $100 on beer, socializing on the new outfield patios lol. Whether this team is a 90-100 win team, it won't matter. Rogers will still be raking in the cash.
  4. Yeah he can get hot for an extended period for sure. But at the end of the day, the Jays need guys like Vlad, Springer, Kirk and Varsho to start becoming productive offensively. Not sure Teo could have saved this team all on his own. The only way this team gets to the next level is if those core players improve. I wonder the price for Teo as well. It would have looked weird trading back Teo to the Jays maybe from the Mariners perspective lol. So far Swanson/Teo has been a wash this season in terms of value. The plus is Swanson is under club control for two more seasons. I would be open to bringing back Teo as a FA in the offseason. He might look to sign a 1-year-contract to build up his value again.
  5. Never said Rogers wasn't committed. They want the team to be competitive every season especially with the new Wildcard format. The Jays could still be an 85-90 win team and be considered competitive even if they don't make the Postseason. But at the end of the day, it's all about making money. I don't think Rogers will get all amped up as some members on here if the Jays lose in a close WC matchup or ALDS lol. Shapiro was brought in here to create a better baseball in-game experience and he has done that. There are more casuals at Jays games now than ever before. Not all because of the product on the field, more for the entertainment, patio bars, in-game experiences at the Rogers Centre.
  6. I haven't participated in a bit haha. I'll go with Varsho tonight. He better be worth like 4 or 5 points lol.
  7. Yeah as much as I would have loved to seen a bat like Teo, at the end of the day he's isn't going to carry this lineup on his shoulders. The Jays need their core pieces to start contributing like Springer Vlad and Kirk. That will make the difference. And if the Jays could get any positive contribution from Varsho with the bat over the final two months, even better!
  8. Yeah Rogers just cares about putting butts into the seats and having fans spend on food/beverages and merch. Obviously they want the Jays to win a World Series but at the end of the day, as long as they're making profits that's all that matters. If the Jays remain competitive every season, even if it means just challenging for a Wildcard every time or get knocked out in the ALDS, they still will fill the seats the following season. It's the same with MLSE from a business perspective. No matter if the Leafs get bounced in the 1st and 2nd rounds every season, they still make money. Fans will still pay huge amounts to attend games, spends hundreds on concessions in the arena, and on merch. Corporate will still buy out boxes etc.
  9. Blake Lively was pitching.
  10. Wonder if Paul DeJong is kept around in 2024 as a 2B or 3B option. Considering the weak market for 3B, might be a possibility.
  11. Yeah I don't think the Jays vastly improved at the deadline but they did add pieces to at least cover the bases and areas that they needed help in. Hicks gives them a potential late inning weapon out of the bullpen with high K upside. DeJong gives them a stopgap until Bo returns and an extra infielder/RHB with some pop. Wonder if DeJong hits well enough with the Jays, he becomes their 2B or 3B option for next season. Cabrera gives them another lefty with great stuff. The lineup could have used another big power bat but was going to be tough. The Jays are going to have to improve significantly from within. Vladdy has to be a monster power bat, Springer needs to hit better, Kirk needs to hit better and for more power, Chapman needs a hot final two months, Varsho needs to stop hitting like crap, and gotta hope one of their SPs like Bassitt, Ryu or Manoah can be a solid No. 3 guy in a Wildcard matchup. A lot of their core pieces have underperformed and you gotta hope they figure things out.
  12. Renovations are bringing Rogers money, that's the most important.
  13. Glad Travis Snider shared that input. In 2009, I went to see the Jays play Boston at Fenway at the end of August. I was staying at the Jays hotel so saw a lot of players in the lobby and bar at all times during the day and night. Snider definitely was more of a partier, leaving the hotel late at night. Even saw him coming back with two blondes haha good for him at that age. But yeah he seems like a cool guy. Sucks he couldn't live up to those lofty expectations. I was watching Jose Bautista playing table checkers in the lobby one night with some random guy haha. And this guy went on to have a monster 2010 crazy! Some classy Jays players at the time who stopped to say hello or sign an autograph: Jason Frasor, Marco Scutaro, Aaron Hill (met him and his dad), John McDonald, Bautista, Rzep. Snider also came up to the fans at Fenway as well, so he was a class act. Jamie Campbell was super friendly and such a nice guy as well. Halladay, as much as I loved him, saw him in line at the hotel Starbucks completely ignoring a little kid.
  14. Yeah that's the difference. Bassitt is getting over 60 million over 3 years while Gibson only signed for 1 year at 10 million. Jays payroll is going to be tight in 2024 and 2025. Heck when I suggested the team trade for Nolan Arenado, all I was hearing was that the Jays don't have the money or cap space available. That $40M in 2024 and 2025 on Bassitt could have been used much wiser. Again, Bassitt has been decent this season. He's not trash or garbage. Just a huge overpay IMO for a 35-year-old starter. I'm more worried about him in Year 2 and 3. Atkins has made fantastic FA signings though some have been head scratchers. Like Bassitt, Roark, Morales, and the Grichuk extension.
  15. DeJong would be a nice stopgap until Bo returns. Could mash lefties and could go on hot streaks. Lets hope Bo isn't out for too long.
  16. Rogers does. I don't understand why. Blair is like a casual and just awful.
  17. Kyle Gibson 2.4 WAR this season Chris Bassitt 1.4 WAR this season Jays still owe Bassitt over $40M for the next two seasons; Gibson is a FA Bassitt has been decent this season, nothing spectacular. At best he's an alright No. 3 but he's mostly a No. 4 starter. I do think the Jays did overpay given his age but at least he's been decent. More worried about Year 2 and 3 with him. Would rather have that $40M freed up but oh well.
  18. You jinxed it by calling a first place team the Shitbirds!
  19. Definitely would welcome back Tea in a heartbeat. I think he would be great for the clubhouse since everyone loved him and he's used to hitting at the Rogers Centre. He gives the Jays a big RHB with power and who could go on a hot streak for the final two months.
  20. Kyle Gibson has produced a 2.4 WAR thus far this season. He actually was a nice pickup for them, despite you and others crapping on the Orioles. Gibson has been a win better than Bassitt, and the Orioles don't have to worry about paying Bassitt $40M+ still over the next two seasons.
  21. Yeah that's how it is on here. Jays could still catch the Rays and Orioles but other teams can't catch the Jays lol.
  22. Hopefully the Yankees don't get Arenado! Hoping he goes to the Dodgers if anywhere
  23. Are those two going to amount to anything anyways? If the Jays don't make trades like this, they'll never improve and go deep into the Postseason. Hicks was a great add given the bullpen situation especially with Romano out!
  24. That was AA's first big move and it had to come right after he took over the GM seat, which is no easy task. Travis d'Arnaud turned to be decent but yeah he was traded. Gose was traded for Devon Travis I believe but sucks injuries ended his career. Yeah no stud or anything. Atkins didn't have to trade a franchise player for prospects when he took on the job. He actually was reluctant to as they botched the timing for JD and got nothing after. Atkins has never had to made a trade where he trades a superstar for prospects.
