  1. Lmao. Do you ever want the Jays to win a World Series? Can't mess around in 2024 and 2025. Atkins has to go all in!
  2. RF Springer SS Bichette 1B Guerrero 3B Arenado LF Pederson C Jansen/Kirk CF Varsho 2B Biggio/Espinal DH sign anyone/rotate guys Great lineup!
  3. If the Jays could get him for nothing, all aboard. Though I bet the Cards still value him highly and probably want a decent package to move him, or else they'll go into 2024 with both Goldy/Arenado hoping they're better. Jays rotation in 2024 is set with Gausman, Bassitt, Berrios, Manoah (cross fingers) and they could sign anyone to be the No. 5 starter. Bullpen should be fine as well, maybe some new faces. They'll have to find someone for 2B, whether they platoon Biggio/Espinal or go after someone else. As well, they'll need a LF though that shouldn't be too difficult. I think Arenado won't break the bank in terms of what the Jays can and can't do.
  4. Yeah Chapman and Arenado for the rest of the season is a wash to be honest like you said. It does make more sense to trade for Arenado in the offseason, but would the Jays have enough to make a trade? My suggestion to trade Chapman now in order to swing the Arenado trade at the deadline, because at least you'll get some young assets back for Chapman that you could move for Arenado. And if you get the Cards to eat some of Arenado's contract, even better!
  5. Lmao. Three way deals have happened before. Even with the Cardinals lol. Arenado's contract isn't that bad when you break it down. If he was a FA, you don't think he gets 4 years at $94M?
  6. Yeah I'm shocked as well. You're better off paying a player or pitcher a higher AAV when they're in their prime. At least during the later years that AAV isn't much of a burden.
  7. Ryu off the hooks in 2024, same with Chapman. If the Jays wanted to re-sign Chapman, he will cost more than 4 years and $94 million. Jays need to focus on 2024 and 2025 as their prime windows to go for a World Series, while Bo and Vladdy are under control and while you have Gausman pitching at the top of his game. Arenado at 3B during the 2024 and 2025 season will definitely make this team better overall.
  8. Look at his contract structure. $94M over 4 years after the Rockies pay $15M total towards his contract. So would work out to $23.5M per season. Plus in his last year, Arenado is getting paid $15 million. Most of the contract is frontloaded.
  9. Are there any other 3B available via free agency or via trade during the offseason though? Chapman likely won't re-sign with the Blue Jays. Arenado's deal isn't that bad long term. The length of 4 years looks worrisome, but his contract is actually structured where he gets cheaper in 2027 and 2028. 35M in 2024 32M in 2025 27M in 2026 15M in 2027 As well from 2024-2026, the Rockies are paying $5 million each season lol. So 4 years at $94M would be left owing given the Rockies are paying a total of $15M towards his contract.
  10. Yeah long term, the Jays infield would be pretty much set especially if they sign Bo and Vlad to extensions. Given the lack of options at 3B next offseason via free agency, Arenado makes sense. Trade Chapman for some young pieces that could be used as assets to acquire Arenado this trade deadline. Definitely possible. Best way to acquire Arenado because if they let Chapman walk as a FA, they likely don't have the pieces to swing a trade in the offseason.
  11. They probably will shop Montgomery and Flaherty. Sure they will get good returns on them. They likely will trade Matz as well, but doubt they get much. For hitters, probably DeJong for a team needing some pop from 2B/SS or 3B. I don't see them trading Goldy or Arenado unless they get a big package in return. And you like you said with their other bats, they haven't done much this season so doubt a Postseason contender would want them.
  12. Maybe the only way a trade works out for Arenado is if it's a threeway deal. For example, Jays trade Chapman to another team to get some pieces to send the Cards way. Not sure if there is another partner out there but that could be interesting.
  13. I have a copy and read The Book: Playing the Percentages in Baseball. Welcome to the board and thanks for sharing your insights on here Tom Tango!
  14. Grant got banned again? lol
  15. Yeah position wise, tough to fit Goldy in, but his bat would definitely be perfect as the No. 4 hitter and with one year left on his contract which is a plus. Logistically just won't work given their positions.
  16. Yeah I doubt the Cards would be retooling completely for 2024. Arenado and Goldy are both their core players they've built that lineup around. Arenado still having a solid year hitting .283/.332/.518 with 19 HR and 62 RBI, 128 wRC+ and 2 WAR. Not sure if he'll come close to his 7.3 WAR season again from 2022. Would have him under control until 2028, so that kind of fits into the Jays timeline if they extend both Vladdy and Bo past 2025, but yeah Arenado in the last year or two of that contract might turn into a dud. But he would help during the 2024 and 2025 seasons for sure I think. Goldy would be the perfect bat - only one year at 25M, so not much risk at all. But doubt he wants to just be a DH fulltime.
  17. Not many elite power bats available. There are guys like Hunter Renfroe, Tommy Pham, Mark Canha, or Tyler O’Neill who could be available. Not sure either would be a huge upgrade, but one of those bats would be a nice fit and add some pop from the right side. I would love if Goldschmidt was available from the Cards. Under control in 2024 for $25M I believe. Obviously sucks that both him and Vlad play 1B, but his bat would be great for this lineup. Or if the Cards are willing to move Arenado, would solve the 3B position moving forward! RF Spinger SS Bichette 1B Guerrero DH Goldschmidt or 3B Arenado 3B Chapman or DH Belt LF Varsho C Kirk/Jansen CF Kiermier 2B Merrifield/Biggio Adding Goldy or Arenado to the middle of the order would be sick!
  18. Damn I would have participated!

  20. Hope Vlad starts hitting for more power in the second half! Awesome performance!
  21. I think Roberts and Garcia could be dark horses. I hope Vladdy does put on a show and that helps him hit for more in the second half. Rodriguez in front of his home crowd could be something to watch, but also he might feel pressured and not relaxed. Alonso is probably the best bet, but yeah you never know. Hope we see a good show from everyone!
  22. If you can get Varsho to have a career offensively like Max Muncy, that should be the goal! Maybe minus the high .OBP a bit but power wise and everything else, that would be sweet!
  23. Yup agree with you on this latter part for sure. Outside of Bo, and Manoah/Pearson, you wish they could have produced more MLB talent. Hope those guys you mention above do work out and yeah even the possibility some of Atkins' draft picks have an impact after his tenure here.
  24. Forgot to put him sorry. For some reason was thinking about arms more than anything. Thanks for the catch!
  25. Those aren't excuses though. Jays have pretty much sucked against Boston and Baltimore this season, and I remember some posters on here saying they weren't that good of teams to begin with. If you throw any team in the AL Central, yes they likely win more games. But stop using the divisions as an excuse as to why the Jays have been inconsistent this season.
