    Just look at the numbers already this season between Detmers and Soriano. Detmers already about 1 full fWAR above Soriano in the same amount of innings this season. Detmers also comes with a better K/9 (10.44), BB/9 (2.74) and FIP (3.35) over Soriano (9.29), (4.17), and (3.79). Regardless, I'm also happy with acquiring Soriano and like I said previously, if he could lower the BB/9 here and pitching under Pete Walker, he could move to the next level and perhaps be a 4+ WAR arm for the Jays. I just think Detmers comes with more upside - like's he's capable of possibly putting up a Jesus Luzardo 2025 type season (5+ WAR season) with his stuff and strikeout ability.

    Hoffman's tenure in Toronto didn't go exactly as hoped. He showed dominance at times, though with the occasional implosions which were ugly. He was definitely settling in after being removed from the closers role and despite his early struggles this season, has been have a solid 2026 (1.2 fWAR, 2.49 FIP with a sick 14.06 K/9). Would have been nice to see this bullpen core stick around again in 2027, though nice deal getting some youth back for him.

    I like Spencer's arm. Some nice K upside and under club control until 2031. He's a work in progress, but definitely will benefit being under Pete Walker and the Jays coaching staff.

    Can you chill? I never said one bad thing about the deal at all or even criticized Atkins. Yes, he's more of a #3 guy at the moment. If he lowers the BB/9, he likely could take the next step, which I acknowledged in my post. Also, I said it would be nice to possible squeeze a 4-5 WAR season out of him, which might happen here under Pete Walker and this Jays staff.

    Yeah I don't view Soriano as a 1A or #2 behind Cease. The team control of 2 years is real nice and he's a solid #3/4 IMO, but hopefully he could lower the BB/9 to take that next step. Likely around a 3 WAR arm, but would be nice if the Jays could squeeze a 4-5 WAR season out of him.

    Yeah Detmers would have been real nice to slot right behind Cease. Would have also been nice to have a southpaw in this rotation, and Detmers comes with more upside. But yeah, not complaining about Soriano, still a solid arm.

    Lodolo could be a nice buy low. Kinda remind me of when the Jays went out and traded for Robbie Ray at the trade deadline - during the season he was struggling, though showed previous success during some seasons in Arizona. Lodolo kind feels like that.

    Well you're blaming him for guys like Bieber who has been on the IL for majority of the season and Scherzer who pretty much we already knew is toast. Gausman had his struggles in June but he's turned things around from the looks of it. Yesavage hasn't really under performed. He's had some awful outings where he has lost control - BB/9 is an area he has to work on if he wants to take the next step. Occasional struggles come with any young starter. Expectations from the Postseason set the bar really high and I even admit expected Yesavage to pitch like a Paul Skenes right out of the gate, but those were unfair expectations and his minor league track record never suggested that.

    How about Dylan Cease, Spencer Miles, Louis Varland, Tyler Rogers, and even Jeff Hoffman's bounce back? Can't blame Walker for Bieber sucking and not being 100%, or Yesavage who yes has had some growing pains as you expect from any young starter. Gausman had a rough stretch there for a bit but seems to have come out of it.

    They need to be getting him in the lineup more frequently, even with Kirk back. He needs to get consistent AB's at least 4-5 days per week.

    I don't think Bieber is 100%. Something isn't right. Likely an IL stint coming up.

    I would have said "huge loss" but when you look at Vlad's numbers this season, shouldn't be tough to replace him if its an extended absence lol.

    Big moves like that could really light a spark under some of the guys in the clubhouse. Even if it doesn’t work out this season, acquiring Skubal would give you an exclusive negotiating window before free agency, while adding Miller would potentially create the best bullpen in baseball next season with Miller, Varland, Rogers and Hoffman. As crazy as it sounds, it could make sense as part of a retool for 2027 if you can sign Skubal to an extension haha.
